Chapter 255 He Said Someone is Waiting for You Here

In the end, it was Alexander who escorted Victoria to the airport.

She clutched her passport tightly, her gaze lowered. A muffled 'thank you' lodged itself in her throat, unable to find its way out. She wondered if he had finally released her from his grasp. He must have anticipated her departure, yet he allowed her to leave. For this, she felt a profound sense of gratitude.

The moment she received her documents, all past humiliations seemed to fade into insignificance. She even found herself thinking that Alexander was a good man.

"I'm leaving," she announced, turning to face Alexander. A genuine smile graced her lips, a smile born from the relief of having her passport returned and the kindness of being personally escorted to the airport.

Alexander swallowed hard, his eyes flicking to where Joe was waiting nearby. Her words echoed in his ears: she was leaving...

"Take care of yourself," he managed to say, his voice barely above a whisper.

"You too," Victoria responded, nodding in agreement. She was about to turn away when a warm, strong hand wrapped around her wrist. She followed the line of contact to the man who held her captive. He didn't turn to face her, but his deep voice resonated in the air, "Someone is waiting for you here."

Victoria stared at him, her brow furrowed in confusion. After a moment's thought, she smiled and responded with a simple, "Hmm."

Alexander turned to look at her, taken aback by her swift agreement. He searched her eyes for a hint of sincerity, but found none. He silently vowed that things would be different when she returned.

---

The night after Victoria's departure, Alexander found himself summoned to the club. "The man without a wife to rein him in. Care for a few more drinks tonight?"

"Hmm," Alexander responded, his gaze fixated on the glass in front of him, his interest in drinking noticeably absent.

His companions' attention was drawn to the ring adorning his hand. Despite being married for a considerable time, he had never worn a wedding ring before. Today was different.

"Is this the fabled wedding ring?" Edward inquired, his curiosity piqued.

None of them were married, and thus had never encountered such a symbol of commitment. They had assumed Benjamin would be the first to tie the knot, but his fiancée had run off with another man before the wedding. It was really the first time they had seen it.

Alexander glanced at the ring, his mind replaying the scene from that morning when she had reluctantly slipped it onto his finger. She had done it with a finality that suggested she was severing all ties with him. The ring felt uncomfortable on his hand.

"Hmm," was all he said in response.

"Are you really in love with Miss Kensington?" William asked, unable to comprehend the situation.

"Why do I get the feeling that things aren't as simple as they seem?" Benjamin chimed in.

Alexander managed a smile, "It's not that complicated."

The truth was, she had put on the ring to earn his trust, only to vanish forever.

"So, should we start preparing our groomsmen's suits?" Edward asked, attempting to lighten the mood.

"Sure," Alexander replied, his voice steady.

"Have you already discussed the wedding?" Benjamin asked, his tone skeptical.

"What?" Alexander bristled at the insinuation.

"Alexander, you know a wedding without a bride is pointless. A wedding is supposed to have a bride," Benjamin reminded him gently.

Alexander had maintained his composure until now, but Benjamin's words stirred a sense of unease within him.

Just then, a knock echoed through the room, drawing everyone's attention to the door. It swung open to reveal Isabella.

"Hey, I heard you guys were drinking here. I thought I'd join you," she announced.
