Chapter 638 Pregnancy Discovered

Recently, Victoria had been feeling utterly devoid of appetite. One day at the restaurant with Olivia, she suddenly felt nauseous and rushed to the restroom.

Olivia touched her small belly and murmured, "Could it be… are you about to have a little companion?"

In the restroom, Victoria was losing her lunch, dizzy and teary-eyed.

Isabella stood at the door, her heart tightening with every sound that came from within.

She thought, 'Is Victoria pregnant?'

The thought sent shivers down Isabella's spine. If Victoria were indeed pregnant, her status in the Harrington family would be unassailable.

But truthfully, Isabella had been waiting for an opportunity to strike Victoria where it hurt the most. If there were any truth to the pregnancy, it would provide the perfect chance.

Isabella clenched her fists, her thoughts swirling. Just then, a voice broke through her thoughts.

"Ms. Montgomery? What are you doing here?"

Frank appeared, approaching quickly.

Isabella relaxed her fists, replying with a hint of sarcasm, "Do you really need to monitor my bathroom breaks?"

She turned and slipped into the restroom.

Victoria instinctively glanced up at the mirror, catching a glimpse of herself.

For a moment, Isabella stared intently at her until she finally shut the door behind her. As she walked further in, she asked bluntly, "Are you pregnant?"

"No."

Victoria denied it reflexively, but honestly, she wasn't sure. The thought had barely crossed her mind when she was retching just moments ago.

But Isabella wasn't done. She smirked. "I heard you couldn't get pregnant a while back. I figured you weren't expecting and wouldn't pretend just to squash those rumors, would you?

"Even if you were pregnant, there's no guarantee you'd carry it to term, right?"

There was a knock on the door, and Frank called from outside, "Mrs. Harrington, do you need any help?"

Victoria glanced at the door, then back at Isabella, her tone ice-cold. "What did I ever do to you?"

"What?"

"You not being able to have Alexander isn't my fault. Your curses against me won't change anything, will they? Does it make you happy?"

Isabella's heart skipped a beat.

She realized she hadn't felt happiness in ages.

Isabella glared at Victoria. "I hate you. Ever since you showed up, my world has darkened. Everything that once belonged to me feels like it's been taken away."

"Mrs. Harrington?" Frank called again, his voice concerned.

"I'm fine!" Victoria quickly replied but couldn't help stealing another glance at Isabella.

Isabella pinned all her failures on Victoria, letting the bitterness that festered within her rise to the surface.

Victoria, not wanting to waste any more energy, was about to leave when Isabella suddenly asked, "Would you be willing to have a baby for Alexander?"

Victoria reached the door, gripping the handle. Turning to face Isabella, she said with quiet certainty, "If I'm pregnant, I'll make sure to see it through."

She was aware of Isabella's past miscarriage and knew how many struggled to have children. But if given the chance to become a mother, she would fiercely protect her child.

"Well, congratulations in advance then," Isabella said with a mocking smile.

Victoria said nothing more and turned to open the door.

Frank, looking concerned, waited until he was sure she was alright before following her out.

"Was that just a coincidence?" Victoria asked as they walked.

Frank, understanding she was referring to Isabella, replied, "It should be. With so many people around you these days, anyone trying to follow would be spotted. I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence."

Or perhaps the city was just too small, and they kept running into each other by chance.

Still, the thought of Isabella witnessing her vomit made Victoria's heart race with an involuntary tension.

Returning to the table with Olivia, Victoria noticed Olivia hanging up the phone and asked, "Do you think you might be pregnant too?"

"I'm not sure," Victoria answered, feeling an inexplicable anxiety.

This wasn't fear or frustration.

It felt as though, after what seemed like an eternity, God might finally be granting her a connection, a person linked by blood.

What a precious gift that would be, if it were true.

She couldn't help but glance down at her abdomen, a smile creeping across her face, though it was tinged with tears.

"Why don't we check out the pharmacy next door?" Olivia suggested, clearly eager to witness this potential miracle moment.

Victoria looked at her, puzzled. "The pharmacy? For what?"

"They sell pregnancy tests. We could use the restroom there to check," Olivia pointed out, her eyes encouraging Victoria to take the test.

Victoria felt a sudden rush of warmth. She wasn't sure yet, and for some reason, Alexander popped into her mind.

The last time people thought she might be pregnant, Alexander had personally gone out to buy a pregnancy test for her.

Victoria thought, 'Alexander has always wanted a daughter. Will he want to be involved in this test with me?'

She found herself mentally calculating the dates—her last period, the days they'd slept together.

Maybe, due to the previous misunderstanding, Victoria felt like she understood a bit more this time around.

This nausea felt different from before. Recently, she had been feeling nauseous, while pregnancy was often associated with an increased appetite.

Doubt crept in. She was afraid it might just be a false alarm, so she quickly said, "Maybe not. It's probably nothing."

"But it's been over a month since you and Alexander got married," Olivia pointed out.

"That's true, but getting pregnant isn't always easy, right?"

"I got pregnant with Edward on the first try," Olivia reminded her, a touch of pride in her voice.

Victoria instinctively glanced at Olivia's barely noticeable baby bump. Though Olivia was only a few months along, Victoria couldn't help but feel a flicker of hope.

She felt as if she might really be pregnant.

She might be becoming a mother soon.

The thought of potentially expanding their family made her less anxious about the idea of being apart from Alexander. In fact, she imagined their small family growing from two to three, with a little princess adding joy to their lives. She had dreamt about that scenario countless times.

After dinner, Victoria asked Frank to pull over and went into the pharmacy.

The clerk looked up as she walked in. "Hello, ma'am. What can I help you with today?"

"I'd like to buy a pregnancy test," Victoria replied.

"A pregnancy test? Sure."

Noticing her wedding ring, the clerk promptly fetched the test for her.

Victoria glanced at the box and remembered her last experience. "Will one test be enough? Maybe I should get another just in case."

"Usually, one is sufficient, but I don't have a reason not to sell you a second one. By the way, you look like a celebrity!"

"Do I? Thanks," Victoria said with a smile.

She took the additional test, paid, and quickly left the store, hoping the news wouldn't make its way online. She was still working on her current project, and she didn't want any premature exposure.

Back in the car, it started to rain lightly outside, but Victoria felt upbeat. She took a few deep breaths, then opened her Facebook chat with Alexander and typed: [Be home early tonight. We have something to do.]
