Chapter 1023 Private Affair
Victoria's hands were still covering her face, but a gentle smile was already forming.
She wasn't sure if Alexander's voice had always been this pleasant or if she was just now noticing it.
She lightly touched her face, then reached out to touch his.
Alexander let her touch his face and said softly, "Smells good. When I go to work, everyone will know I'm using my wife's skincare products."
Victoria tensed up immediately, worried it might not be appropriate.
"Silly, I'm just kidding. The scent will fade soon. Besides, even if they think that, I don't mind."
"As long as it's from you, I like it."
His thin lips landed a gentle kiss on her cheek, then another two kisses, before he hugged her tightly. "I missed you so much this morning."
Victoria felt a bit uneasy but tried her best to smile.
It seemed like they had entered a different kind of feeling.
Every time he hugged her tightly, she felt a bit more real.
She felt like she didn't know how to love someone.
She needed him, but she treated him like a lifeline.
She kept telling herself to be sincere, but it seemed like she didn't know where her heart was.
She often felt pain, wanted warmth, and longed for the feeling of being protected, but she was also afraid of being too selfish and hurting others.
She wanted to ask him to always be this good to her, but she couldn't bring herself to say it.
Breakfast was indeed English muffins, paired with what seemed like milk.
"Try it."
Alexander sat next to her, ready to hand her things.
Victoria took a bite of the English muffin he had cut for her. It was crispy and a bit salty, with no other flavors.
She smiled to show that it was good.
"There's ketchup on the side. If you don't like it plain, you can dip it."
Alexander gently reminded her.
Victoria responded with a smile, obediently following his suggestion, and continued to smile to show that his idea was good.
Alexander watched her smile so earnestly, but it made him feel a bit unsettled.
After a busy morning at the office, Benjamin and Edward came to see him.
"Even if Bryant Group gets through this crisis, it will suffer significant losses."
The three of them sat on the couch, and after Graham served coffee and left, Edward spoke.
Benjamin studied Alexander's expression and asked, "Jerome must have tried to pull some strings with you, right?"
"Yeah."
No extra words.
Alexander poured them coffee and suddenly suggested, "How about we go to the basketball court next door for a game?"
It had been a long time since they played basketball together, and the weather was nice today.
Plus, he needed some exercise.
But every time Alexander suggested sports, Edward felt a bit apprehensive, always thinking Mr. Harrington would go all out.
The moment Alexander's office door was knocked on, Edward breathed a sigh of relief.
It was Adrian.
"Alexander, I need to talk to you about something."
Adrian poked his head in and said.
Alexander looked at him and smiled, "We'll talk about your issue later."
Adrian was puzzled, but seeing the three men standing up and heading outside, he felt a sense of unease.
Later, on the basketball court, in less than an hour, the basketball slipped from Adrian's hands.
"Alexander, what did I do wrong this time?"
Adrian asked weakly.
Edward looked at the sweaty Adrian and said, "Silly boy, this is about old scores."
Adrian panted, and after figuring it out, he smiled helplessly.
"Keep going."
Alexander passed by him, saying just one sentence.
Benjamin was already in a defensive stance, knowing Alexander wouldn't end it easily.
It wasn't until noon that the four of them, drenched in sweat, finished the game.
Daisy was just wandering near his company when she ran into them and quietly watched the entire game.
When the four of them left, Daisy emerged from the corner, her eyes fixed on Alexander.
Alexander said nothing, walking past her expressionlessly.
"Mr. Harrington."
Daisy still wanted to catch up.
"Hey, Ms. Bryant, no, Mrs. Cook, this is inappropriate. As a married woman, you should be conscious of keeping a distance from other men."
Edward stopped her, reminding her.
Daisy watched Alexander walk away, then turned to Edward, "I'm not seeking Mr. Harrington for any romantic reasons."
"Ridiculous. You and he never had any romantic involvement. Don't make it sound like something happened between you two."
Adrian stepped forward, thinking about how Victoria was now blind and amnesiac, while Daisy stood here with her pregnant belly, and felt the world was unfair.
"Regardless, I did save Victoria."
"Maybe without Victoria, you would already be dead."
"What?"
Benjamin said this as he passed by, leaving Daisy stunned.
But Benjamin didn't explain further.
Edward quickly understood and told her, "Ms. Bryant, you'd be wise to stay away from us. That's what a smart woman would do."
"But with the Bryant family in such trouble, only Mr. Harrington can help."
"No, people can only save themselves without a price."
Edward finished and walked away.
"Stop bothering Alexander, or you won't be as comfortable as you are now."
Adrian also left after saying this.
Daisy watched as each of the young men left, feeling deeply humiliated.
Why, even though she had done good deeds, even gone to prison, she still couldn't get a word of thanks from him. Instead, he grew to hate her more, and the Bryant family ended up like this.
"Mrs. Cook."
As Daisy was thinking, someone suddenly called her.
She turned to see someone she didn't know had approached her. "George, why are you here?"
"Mr. Bryant asked me to keep an eye on you and take you back to the Cook family."
Daisy's heart ached even more.
The child in her belly was growing day by day, and the Cook family treated her well now, but it was all because of the child.
She wanted a divorce.
Her mother had said she could get a divorce. She didn't want to spend another day with someone like Elliot.
But her mother didn't keep her word.
And she could only resign herself to returning to the Cook family.
In the large house, only Elliot was there.
At noon, he had just gotten up, wearing pajamas and eating lunch.
No, it should be his breakfast.
Elliot saw her return and couldn't help but laugh, taking a sip of wine before asking, "Hit a wall again?"
She said nothing, walked over, and asked the servant for dinnerware.
"It's fine if you hit a wall, just don't hurt my kid. Otherwise, you know what will happen."
"What do I know?"
She asked angrily.
Why could everyone threaten her?
It was ridiculous.
"Don't you know? If you don't, it will only harm the Bryant family."
