Chapter 751 Taking the Initiative with the Man You Like is Absolutely Right

"Alexander, it hurts."

Victoria winced as she felt a sharp pain in her waist when Alexander pressed down on her from behind. The pain spread quickly, making her afraid to even breathe.

The next day, she arrived at the office to find her chair had been replaced with a new one. The delivery guy mentioned it heated up in under three seconds when someone sat on it.

Victoria had just started to enjoy the warmth when the elevator doors opened. She instinctively glanced over.

"Good morning, Ms. Kensington."

"Good morning."

It was Shoure, looking all happy and vibrant after getting his marriage certificate. But Alexander, who was with him, didn't seem as cheerful. Still, he walked over and asked, "Does your waist still hurt?"

Victoria glanced at him, then focused on her computer screen. "Thanks for the new chair, Mr. Harrington."

Seeing her still able to throw a bit of attitude, Alexander felt a bit relieved but still nervous. He wanted to show more concern but couldn't find the right way. So, he just turned and went back to his office.

Shoure followed but then ran back. "Did you and Mr. Harrington make up again?"

"Absolutely not," Victoria said seriously.

Shoure raised an eyebrow, trying to read her, but she didn't budge.

"Shoure," Alexander called from the door, sounding irritated.

"Coming," Shoure replied, heading to Alexander's office but still thinking they must've slept together last night. Why else would Alexander be so humble today?

When Alexander started swallowing his pride, it usually meant they were about to reconcile. If they did, everyone in the office would probably celebrate with champagne.

After reporting his work, Shoure lingered for a bit. Alexander, noticing he hadn't left, looked up. "Do you need something else?"

"Did you guys make up?" Shoure asked with a playful grin.

Alexander felt a chill. In Victoria's eyes, he was just a selfish jerk. But the thing was, he hadn't actually done anything to earn that title.

"Even if you haven't made up, you must be on the way, right?"

"If you're so idle..." Alexander said sternly, opening his desk.

Shoure quickly stood up, smiling. "I just remembered I have a meeting with Mr. Beaumont about a project. Gotta go."

He didn't want to be sent on another assignment, especially with his wife pregnant and their wedding right after the New Year.

After Shoure left, Alexander sighed and opened his drawer, finding their divorce agreement. His eyes darkened. Victoria had secretly hired one of the best lawyers in Ankenra City. The Harrington Group's legal team said the guy rarely lost cases unless his clients were so bad they made him angry.

It wasn't Victoria who went to court to investigate their divorce; it was that lawyer. And yet, Alexander had still been in her bed last night...

He closed the drawer slowly.

When Victoria knocked on the door with some documents, he snapped back to reality. "Come in," he said.

"Mr. Harrington, Penelope from PR is here."

"Send her in."

"Yes."

Victoria turned and gave Penelope a smile. It was the last workday before the New Year, and he was swamped. As Alexander's secretary, she couldn't escape the workload.

When Janaye showed up, Victoria was in so much pain she was breaking out in a cold sweat. Seeing Janaye felt like seeing a savior, but she still asked, "Are you sure you can handle this?"

"It's fine, and I'm getting double pay today."

"Double pay? How's that?"

"Yeah, I'm on paid leave, so coming in means double pay."

Seeing Janaye's happy smile, Victoria felt her worry was unnecessary. It was hard to say if Janaye was prone to miscarriage, but Victoria felt lucky when she finally sat down to drink some water and catch her breath.

Alexander hadn't left his office much all day, and by around seven in the evening, the top floor finally quieted down. Victoria walked into his office and asked softly, "Can I leave now?"

"Wait a moment," Alexander replied.

Victoria looked at him, puzzled. Even Janaye had already been picked up by Shoure.

"Wait for me for five minutes. You can sit on the sofa for now," Alexander said, pointing to the couch.

Victoria didn't want to go in, and soon her desk phone rang again. She went back to answer it.

"Ms. Bryant? He's not busy now. I can ask, but can't you call him yourself?"

She didn't want to keep walking back and forth.

"Are you unwilling to help me ask? Are you jealous?"

"Alright, but it has to be after five minutes."

Victoria glanced at her watch and silently timed it.

"Why after five minutes? Isn't he not busy now?"

"But Mr. Harrington still has some things to deal with."

Daisy suddenly asked cautiously, "Ms. Kensington, do you think it's too forward for a girl to make the first move?"

Victoria stared at her desk for a long time, leaning back painfully. The heat from the chair gradually eased her back pain, but she still looked listless, only moving her mouth as she said, "Why would it be?"

"I think so too. In this day and age, a girl making the first move on a guy she likes is progressive but absolutely right, don't you think?"

"Yes."

Victoria's expressionless face wasn't just due to the pain; Daisy's words left her indifferent. She felt Daisy didn't need to tell her these things; she was just an ex-wife. If Daisy thought she still had a place in Alexander's heart, she had nothing to say.

Listening to a few more words wouldn't kill her, so she just listened quietly.

When Alexander came out, Victoria heard the footsteps and looked up, then raised her phone, "Mr. Harrington, someone is looking for you."

Alexander was actually coming to find her, but when she handed him the phone, he hesitated for a moment. Seeing it was Daisy, he frowned and said into the phone, "Hello?"

"Mr. Harrington? Are you done with work?"

The voice on the other end was like a little girl's, nervous and happy.

Alexander only felt annoyed, looking down at the tired Victoria sitting in the chair, and then said indifferently, "What do you want?"

"I want to have dinner with you tonight."

"Sorry, I'm not available tonight."

Alexander said and hung up the phone.

Victoria looked up at him and said, "Are you always this cold to girls who pursue you?"

"Am I cold?" Alexander asked as he bent down and placed his hand under her leg.
