Chapter 917 Lean on My Chest, It's Free
"Alexander, what can't Victoria manage?"
Eloise was startled by Alexander's words and quickly tried to smooth things over.
Victoria just felt a bit heartbroken.
Alexander simply didn't see her as part of the family. Did he think she wasn't worthy of managing Harrington family matters?
Well, that was fine. She was unwilling to bother anyway.
"Alexander, you're being too much. I've seen the C-section scar on her stomach; it's real. How can you say such things to a woman who has given you a child?"
Even Diana couldn't help but stand up for Victoria.
Victoria was a bit surprised by Diana's change, but she decided to finish her meal and head back to the hotel to sleep once Eloise left.
Since she couldn't manage Harrington family matters, that naturally included Alexander.
Alexander glanced at Victoria after hearing Diana's words, then asked, "Who let you see Victoria's scar?"
"I wanted to see it."
Diana was taken aback by the question but remained firm.
"You two just get older without getting wiser. Luckily, Victoria is sensible and doesn't hold it against you." Eloise remarked, holding Victoria's hand.
Alexander looked up at Victoria. His vision was a bit blurry, but he sensed that Victoria was unhappy.
After Eloise and Diana left, the two of them were having dinner when Victoria suddenly heard a voice.
"Do you want to manage?"
Victoria looked up at him, puzzled. "What?"
"Diana's matters."
"I won't interfere too much."
Victoria immediately promised Alexander.
"Anything related to the Harrington family, if you want to manage it, you can. I can guarantee that. It's just that Diana doesn't respect you enough, so I told you not to get involved." Alexander explained.
Victoria stared at him blankly, feeling a tightness in her chest.
He told her not to get involved just because of that?
Alexander reached for some food but missed the plate. Victoria snapped out of it and quickly moved the dish closer to him. "Here it is."
"Thank you."
Alexander took a bite.
Victoria felt a bit uneasy. Why couldn't he see clearly?
"Wait until she learns to respect you. Then it won't be too late to be good to her."
He said after finishing his meal.
Victoria didn't know how to respond to him.
"After dinner..."
"After dinner, don't go to the hotel."
He knew she was going to the hotel.
"The bed is big enough for both of us," Alexander added.
Victoria looked at him silently, thinking about the two of them squeezing into the bed and inevitably ending up together. She lowered her head. "I like sleeping alone."
"Do you like sleeping alone, or are you afraid that if you fall asleep next to me, you'll end up in my arms for warmth?"
Victoria stared at him, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"That hotel was built years ago, and the soundproofing is terrible," Alexander added.
Victoria agreed with that. She could hear everything the neighbors were saying.
"I'll go back to the apartment then."
Victoria thought for a moment and replied.
"Alright."
Alexander said, then turned around and accidentally knocked a plate off the table, shattering it on the floor.
Victoria was taken aback and immediately went to pick it up.
"Don't move, I'll do it myself."
"You can't see clearly, just stay still."
"Don't move. If something happens after you leave, I'll have to clean it up myself. I can see a little; I'll be careful."
Victoria looked at Alexander, unable to move her wrist as he held it. But seeing him get out of bed, she instinctively lowered her head and quickly told him, "Don't step down."
"Why?"
"There are shards of the plate."
"It's fine. Worst case, I'll bleed a little."
Victoria was a bit angry. Was he doing this on purpose?
What did he mean?
If he stepped on it, it would hurt him.
He already couldn't see or hear clearly. If he hurt his foot and couldn't move, she'd have to stay and take care of him.
"I'll clean it up, and then you can get out of bed."
"What will I do after you leave?"
"I'll get a caregiver."
Victoria muttered as she started cleaning up.
"I've already sent them away."
"You don't need to worry. Go wherever you want. I can take care of myself. I won't complain to Grandma. Just go."
He expressed, trying to step down again.
Victoria quickly bent down and grabbed his leg. She probably couldn't hold his leg, but as soon as she touched him, he instinctively lifted it, so she didn't have to use much force. "Alexander, can you stop being so childish?"
"Not making you worry is childish?"
"Just don't move."
"If you can't always take care of me, I need to get used to taking care of myself. Bumps and bruises are inevitable."
"But if you step on it, you'll bleed."
"So what if I bleed? I plan to cook for myself when I get home. I might cut my fingers or burn my face, but it's okay. As long as I'm alive, right?"
Victoria slowly straightened up, visibly angry.
But as soon as she let go of Alexander, he tried to step down again. She had to squat down and hug his long leg. "Alexander, don't push me too far. My back hurts."
"Alright."
Victoria was even angrier.
He always just said alright.
"Tori."
After a while, he suddenly called her.
Victoria snapped out of it and realized she was squatting. She responded unhappily.
"Are you angry?"
"No, why would I be angry? You are so reasonable and considerate."
"Get up," Alexander said.
Victoria glared at Alexander. "Lift your foot, and I'll get up."
"Okay, don't clean it up yourself. Get someone else to do it."
"Is it necessary to trouble others for such a small task?"
"They get paid to do it." Alexander reminded her.
Victoria didn't clean up after that. Her back hurt like hell, and her heart ached too.
He was intentionally tormenting her, relishing every moment of her distress.
After the room was cleaned, Victoria sat on the couch chatting with Olivia on Facebook. Olivia asked how Alexander was. She glanced at Alexander on the bed with his phone and replied, [He's alright.]
"Tori?"
"What now?"
She had just lain down for a while.
"Can you come over and help me with a document? I can't see it."
Victoria had to get up from the couch and go to bed.
She had just taken his phone when he grabbed her wrist.
Alexander stared ahead, his eyes a bit vacant, and asked her, "Can you sit by my side and read it to me? My hearing isn't great either."
"Okay."
Victoria thought, 'Maybe it's because it's late at night that he seemed more vulnerable.'
So she sat by his side, reading the document to him. Alexander leaned against the headboard, listening intently, but occasionally squeezed her wrist.
Victoria looked down and asked, "Why are you squeezing my wrist?"
"I'm afraid your hand will get tired."
"My mouth is tired too."
Victoria instinctively retorted, then regretted it immediately.
Alexander smiled.
The atmosphere suddenly became a bit ambiguous. After a while, Victoria adjusted her breathing and softly said, "I'll continue. There are two more documents."
"Alright."
He agreed, then pulled her wrist closer. "You can lean on my chest, it's free."
