Chapter 647 Back to Guarding the New House Again
He stared at the string of numbers for less than ten seconds before hanging up.
The person on the other end of the line felt so wronged after being hung up on that she was ready to explode.
"I just wanted to hear your voice," Isabella murmured, "even if it's just a simple hello."
Isabella was utterly overwhelmed at the moment.
The Montgomery Group's development seemed to be slipping out of her control. She had to come up with a plan to win their support within the next few days, but Alexander was ignoring her.
She suspected that Alexander was deliberately avoiding her calls because he had figured out it was her.
Of course, the real reason he was dodging her calls was because Victoria was undoubtedly by his side.
She thought, 'Victoria—has that woman taken control of him?'
Even if it was only temporary, Victoria's influence was something Isabella couldn't match.
Isabella despised Victoria's ability to control him. It was a power she had never possessed.
Even when she announced that she was pregnant with Alexander's child, he had always seemed to cater to her wishes, though it was clear he was merely giving her what she demanded.
But everything had changed once they returned to the city.
Alexander had shifted his focus almost entirely onto Victoria, even going so far as to reclaim the house he had given Isabella.
Isabella loathed Victoria so deeply that her dreams were filled with fantasies of stabbing Victoria's pregnant belly.
Her murderous intent grew stronger by the day. She had to ensure everything went off without a hitch.
Failure was not an option this time.
She needed Victoria out of the way, and it couldn't be traced back to her.
Her grudge against Victoria was so profound that Victoria's death would likely lead to her being immediately suspected.
So, this time, success was mandatory; failure was not an option.
She was determined to step over Victoria's body and become Alexander's wife.
She was certain she could achieve it.
As Isabella contemplated this, she glanced out the window. The rain had persisted for days. She thought, 'Is it a sign?
'The rain has kept many people indoors. Is it trying to tell me something?
'Perhaps it is advising me to remain patient?
'To seek victory through steady preparation?'
Isabella resolved to act with precision this time, leaving no room for error.
Suddenly, she thought about one of her former lovers—Sebastian. He might be the most vulnerable target now.
She thought, 'He has recently been pretending not to care about me, claiming to be in love with Emily, the woman he has just married.
'Sebastian only needs Emily's social standing. How can he be interested in someone as unsophisticated as Emily after having loved someone as sophisticated as me?
'He is merely putting on a show, partly to spite me and partly to impress his new father-in-law.'
With this in mind, Isabella dialed Sebastian's number on her phone.
She was convinced that with just a flick of her fingers, Sebastian would come running back to her.
A woman's voice answered on the other end, cold and detached. "Seb's still asleep. What do you want?"
"Emily?"
Isabella immediately recognized the name.
"It's me, Isabella. Whatever you're planning, you need to stay away from Seb. Otherwise, you'll regret it."
The call ended abruptly.
Isabella felt a pang of shock as if an arrow had pierced her heart.
She thought, 'How dare that uninformed woman speak to me like that?' Emily, after ending the call, saw Sebastian lying in bed, his captivating eyes wide open. She walked over and handed him the phone. "Did you hear that?"
"Isabella?" Sebastian's voice was groggy with sleep.
"Yes."
"You made a good point, but people might think you're just being a shrew. As long as you don't mind," Sebastian said this while lying on the bed, his eyes still on her.
Emily, soft and delicate, was someone he truly liked.
Especially since she was so wholeheartedly devoted to him.
That feeling of being loved, he hadn't experienced in years—not since his mother.
"I'm fine with it, as long as you don't mind."
"I don't mind," Sebastian said.
Emily's gaze softened instantly. She sat by the bed, her voice sweet as she asked, "Why are you still in contact with her?"
"I blocked her ages ago, didn't I? But you know how she is—she has multiple numbers. If I'm not mistaken, that call was from an unknown number, right?"
"Yes."
"Then how did you immediately know it was her?"
"Woman's intuition."
Seeing the number, Emily had instantly known it must be Isabella. She thought no other woman would call her husband so early in the morning.
"Emily, don't be upset. It makes me sad."
Sebastian sat up, gently taking her hand.
Emily looked at him, mumbling, "I don't believe you."
Sebastian chuckled softly. "Trust me. I promise, as long as you don't betray me, I will never betray you."
He thought, 'What if it's a business marriage?'
Even after their first night together, he had already made up his mind.
This girl had boldly given herself to him, without judging his background or past, willing to stay by his side.
Emily gave Sebastian a gentle poke, feeling a deep sense of satisfaction in that moment.
As for Isabella, she wasn't so pleased. Not only did Victoria look down on her, but even this inexperienced Emily had the gall to dismiss her.
She thought, 'Are they all so high and mighty?
'I'm the real lady here. In terms of education, intelligence, or even beauty and figure—qualities that women love to compare—I excel. And what are these other women compared to me?'
Isabella decided to park her car near Alexander and Victoria's new home, even though she couldn't see anything. She just wanted to be close by.
When Eloise arrived at the new house with Felix driving, the car slowed down. Eloise looked out the window and said, "Felix, do you recognize that car over there?"
"It looks like one from the Montgomery Family," Felix replied, glancing at the car.
Eloise frowned. "What is that woman doing, parking right outside the newlyweds' home?"
"Eloise, do you think she might still have feelings for Mr. Harrington?" Felix suggested.
"Isabella is completely delusional. She's as good as trash and still has the nerve to think she has a chance with Alex."
Eloise was visibly upset.
Felix soon stopped the car, got out with an umbrella, and approached Isabella's vehicle.
Seeing that it was the driver from the Harrington family, Isabella realized Eloise must be in the car. She rolled down her window cautiously and asked, "Hello, is there something you need?"
"Mrs. Harrington is in the car and would like to speak with you, Ms. Montgomery."
"Alright, I'll drive over."
Isabella, thrilled at the prospect of a potential conversation, was about to drive over when Felix said, "Ms. Montgomery, please step out of the car and come over."
Despite her reluctance, Isabella thought about the possibility of marrying into the Harrington family. Even if it meant standing in the rain, she decided to get out of the car.
Sometimes, the promise of a bright future outweighed one's pride.
With Felix holding the umbrella for her, Isabella felt a surge of vanity and hypocritically thanked him with a smile, "Thank you."
"Of course," Felix said, extending his hand to guide her forward.
When they reached the car, however, Eloise refused to roll down the window. Felix waited for a moment before calling out, "Ms. Montgomery, just a moment."
Isabella was caught off guard as icy rain began to pour over her.
