Chapter 276 Alexander Said He Didn't Want a Divorce

Victoria slumbered fitfully, her sleep interrupted when her hair was suddenly compressed. Startled awake, she found herself silenced by a familiar hand.

"Quiet," Alexander whispered into her ear, his voice a soothing balm in the darkness. "It's me."

"Alexander?" Victoria's voice was laced with disbelief. "How did you get in?"

"Getting in was the easy part," Alexander murmured, his voice barely audible. In the pitch black of the room, he reveled in the warmth radiating from Victoria, despite the layers of pajamas and blankets that separated them. The simple act of holding her was enough to satiate his longing, at least for the moment.

His yearning for her was driving him to the brink of madness, a fact that seemed to elude Victoria completely. She remained silent, focusing on calming her racing heart.

Slowly, Alexander released his hold on her mouth, pressing his forehead against hers in a silent plea. "I won't do anything. I just want to sleep next to you. Is that okay?"

Victoria wanted to protest, to push him away, but the words died on her lips. Instead, she found herself enveloped in his arms, the scent of a familiar perfume teasing her senses.

A thought crossed her mind, 'Did he come from Isabella's house? Did he drink with her?'

She wanted to demand that he shower, but she held her tongue, choosing instead to lie quietly beside him. After a while, she assumed he had fallen asleep. She attempted to slip away, but her movements were halted by his firm grip. His legs, strong and unyielding, pinned her down, causing a dull ache to spread through her knees.

"Alexander, you're hurting me," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

"Don't go," he mumbled, suddenly sitting up.

Her heart pounded in her chest as she felt his weight shift above her. "I thought you were asleep," she said, her voice trembling slightly.

"I was, but I woke up when you moved," Alexander confessed, his fingers tracing the contours of her face in the darkness. He pressed his lips against her forehead, then her lips.

"No," she protested firmly.

"We're still married, Victoria."

"I'm not worthy of you. Please, find someone else," she pleaded.

"Fine, I'll sleep with you first, then I'll find someone else," he retorted, his voice laced with sarcasm.

Victoria fell silent, her mind racing.

"When you're pregnant, don't beg me to come back," Alexander warned, his grip on her chin tightening as he kissed her.

Victoria whimpered in pain, the sensation akin to her throat being ripped apart. At first, Alexander was oblivious to her discomfort, mistaking her reaction for fear. He softened his kiss, gradually releasing his hold on her chin.

"No, Alexander. Don't touch there," Victoria pleaded, her voice strained.

"What?" he asked, confusion evident in his voice.

The pain was unbearable, like being scorched by the sun. She choked back a sob, her throat raw and scratched.

"What's wrong with you?" Alexander asked, concern creeping into his voice. He made a move to switch on the light, but Victoria's hand shot out, gripping his wrist tightly.

"Don't turn on the light," she begged.

"Why?" he asked, his voice filled with confusion.

"We have a family court appointment tomorrow," Victoria replied, her voice steady. That was the only promise she could make him. As for the rest, she had no intention of discussing it. She had no plans to reveal what had happened in Danisland. It was all water under the bridge now.

Alexander leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her lips. "Victoria, I don't want a divorce," he murmured.

Victoria quickly silenced him with her hand. "If you don't want a divorce, why did you call me back?"

He smiled, taking her hand and placing it on his chest. "I wanted a divorce too," he admitted.

His words left Victoria reeling, his evasive response fueling her doubts. She wondered if he was toying with her emotions. She had rushed back, mentally preparing herself for the worst.

"But as soon as I saw you, I knew I didn't want a divorce," Alexander confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. He was drawn to her, the urge to kiss her almost overpowering.

"Alexander, do you want to take a shower?" Victoria asked, her voice steady despite the turmoil within her.
