Chapter 147 Contact During Daylight Only

As dawn broke, Victoria Kensington found herself perched on the edge of her bed, her work attire neatly arranged beside her. She was caught in a moment of hesitation. She yearned to seize this moment to assert her determination to divorce, yet she was apprehensive that such a decision might impede other matters. Her hand hovered over her work uniform, lightly brushing the fabric.

Alexander Harrington had not reached out again, and neither had anyone else from the Harrington family.

Her phone vibrated against the uniform, a call from Jasmine. She picked up the phone, answering with a simple, "Hello?"

"Vicky, why aren't you at work yet? Mr. Harrington seems unhappy," Jasmine's voice trembled with fear. Victoria could sense her friend's terror but could only respond, "Jasmine, I need to extend my leave."

"What? As the CEO's executive assistant, can you afford to be away this long?"

"Yes, I'm really counting on you during this time."

"Huh? Counting on me? Oh no, Vicky, I'm terrified the boss is going to skin me alive."

Jasmine had been observing Alexander Harrington's foul moods since the previous day. He had even paused at their workstations but ultimately asked no questions. Victoria mused, some people are terrifying not for their questions, but for their silent presence.

---

Three days elapsed before Victoria Kensington could no longer resist and took the initiative to contact Alexander Harrington.

His response was curt. "Meet me at Regal Retreat tonight."

"No, Mr. Harrington, I'd prefer during the day. I want to..." she protested.

"People who keep taking leaves naturally wouldn't know how busy the company has gotten. Nine o'clock, your call," he said tersely before disconnecting the call.

She didn't go.

What was the point of going at night?

She harbored no affection for Regal Retreat.

She had no desire to be alone with him in the darkness.

Or rather, she dared not get too close to him.

Especially when it was just the two of them, each time he approached, she had to remind herself of his betrayal to stay clear-headed and not fall for him again.

But how could she truly not feel anything?

She was afraid to meet him alone.

And resolved to only contact him during daylight.

---

The following day, Alexander Harrington had barely concluded a meeting and returned to his office when his phone rang again.

Seeing her number, a smirk crept across his face.

She really had some patience, and she knew when to call.

But...

The name Victoria Kensington seemed somewhat jarring on his phone screen.

At lunch, Jasmine had joined him for a business lunch. Alexander handed his jacket to the staff upon entering the venue.

Soon, a staff member approached their private booth with his phone in hand. "Boss, you have a call."

Alexander, engrossed in toasting with clients, casually asked, "Who is it?"

The staff member looked down, appearing somewhat timid.

Alexander frowned. "I asked, who's calling?"

Everyone turned to look at the staff member, and Jasmine quickly stepped forward to take the phone, pausing herself when she saw the caller ID.

"Jasmine?" Alexander called out, feigning seriousness.

"Yes, boss, your note here says, 'wife'," she replied, her voice faint with the last word.

Wife?

Since when did they have a lady of the house?

Was it a joke?

Was it just rumors?

"Then please take the message for me. Tell her I'm still out with President Zhang playing golf today and can't accompany her. Let's carry on," he said, raising his glass once more to the senior executive.

Jasmine was left nearly breathless with fear.

Who was this mystery woman on the other end of the line?

Could their boss's wife be some elusive heiress from a powerful dynasty?

Wasn't everyone familiar with Isabella Montgomery, the wealthy heiress?

"The CEO even said, 'Mark it as Mrs. Harrington's. Could it be that Mr. Harrington is indeed, as rumors suggest, a married man?'"

"Just over two years."

He smiled casually, the epitome of composure.
