Chapter 268 He Said the Person Waiting for Her to Go Back was Her Husband

Victoria had never allowed herself the luxury of surrendering to this relationship. She had been too afraid to love Alexander freely, except for this one instance. She lifted her hand, placing it gently on his back, intending to reciprocate his kiss.

As her lips tentatively moved to meet his, he abruptly halted the kiss. Alexander glanced at Victoria, seeking confirmation, before resuming their intimate exchange. He feared that allowing her a moment more to ponder might cause her to reconsider. Yet, when he kissed her again, he ensured she had ample room to respond.

Victoria's hands clung to the fabric of his suit, her grip firm. Alexander savored her lips a few more times, grinning at her as if he had just tasted the sweetest honey, before tenderly wiping the corner of her mouth. He whispered softly, "I really must leave now."
Lowering her head in acquiescence, she murmured, "Okay."

She believed that in this manner, she would harbor no regrets. She released his hand, but found herself still enveloped in his embrace, Alexander's gaze fixed intently on her. "I promise, there's no other woman for me but you," he assured her.

Victoria couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze, merely whispering a soft, "Okay."

She feared wanting more. She reminded him, "You'll be late."

"Do you recall what I told you when you left?" Alexander probed.

Victoria looked at him, the words caught in her throat.

"The person waiting for your return is your husband," Alexander declared, before heading towards the departure gate. This time, he didn't look back.

Victoria stood rooted to the spot, a growing sense of suffocation enveloping her, her heartache intensifying. She then turned around silently and walked away.

He had said that the man awaiting her return was her husband.

Victoria glanced back at the now empty space.

Despite Alexander's evident affection for her, she had resolved not to take any further risks in Ankenra. She wouldn't return. Victoria was confident that Alexander, with his sharp intellect, would soon understand. He would realize in a matter of days that she had no intention of returning.

Later, Victoria opened WhatsApp, intending to bid him farewell. But it felt as though she had already said her goodbyes.

Victoria found herself seated in the Lincoln, being chauffeured home. She began job hunting, ready to embark on her new life.

Alexander's realization that Victoria wouldn't be returning hit him when he called her upon his return to Ankenra, only to be met with silence.

He mused, 'Sometimes, you can sense when someone wants to sever ties with you.'

Alexander's friends knew that he had returned to Ankenra, so they immediately invited him to the club. Seeing that he was still upset, they knew that Victoria hadn't come back with him.

"Why didn't she come back with you?" Benjamin inquired bluntly.

"Did she have someone waiting for her here?" Edward speculated.

Annoyed, Alexander shot him a glance. "Must you always be so pessimistic?"

"Well, I just think that if she's willing to reject a wealthy family like the Harringtons, she must have a compelling reason to stay in Danisland," Edward reasoned.

Isabella sauntered into the club, donning a short white skirt and a glittering handbag. Spotting Alexander, she feigned nonchalance. "I heard you guys were here. It's true. Alexander, did you come back today?"

"Yes," Alexander replied.

His gaze inadvertently fell on her legs before he quickly averted his eyes. However, Isabella noticed his fleeting glance and felt a surge of pride.

Suddenly, the image of Victoria's bare, slender legs filled Alexander's mind, as if they were so delicate they might snap with a single twist.

He had left a mark there. She likely wouldn't be able to wear short skirts for a while. He had to admit his motives were selfish. Otherwise, he wouldn't have left a mark in such a conspicuous place.

Despite the heat outside, he didn't want other men ogling his wife.

Isabella toyed with her phone before casually mentioning, "By the way, I heard that Vicky's fiancé has reconciled with her. Have you heard?"

Edward and Benjamin exchanged puzzled glances before turning their worried eyes towards Alexander.

"They're just friends," Alexander said firmly.
