Chapter 834 Self-Harm

At noon, during lunch break.

"Ms. Kensington, good afternoon."

Victoria was leaving work with Janaye when they saw Daisy, who was about to get into her car, holding her purse straps and smiling as she greeted them.

Janaye looked at Daisy, puzzled, and asked, "What are you doing here?"

"I have a date with Alex."

As Daisy spoke, her big eyes stared intently at Victoria.

At this moment, the pride in Daisy's eyes was unmistakable; she was trying to gauge Victoria's reaction.

Seeing the situation, Leander got out of the car and walked over to Victoria. "Mrs. Harrington, Mr. Harrington said he has some business to discuss with Ms. Bryant, not a date."

"Thank you, Leander."

Victoria nodded, said no more, and turned to leave with Janaye.

But Daisy suddenly caught up, walking backward while staring at Victoria and questioning, "You can't bear to give up the title of Harrington family matriarch, can you?"

"Who do you think you are, asking so many questions?"

Janaye asked Daisy, hands on her hips, clearly displeased.

"I'm talking to Victoria. You don't..."

"She is the esteemed matriarch of the Harrington family, not just anyone can talk to her."

Before Daisy could finish her sentence, a familiar and intimidating voice interrupted. She turned to see Eve and immediately hid behind Victoria. "I didn't hurt her, you can't hit me."

Eve walked over to Victoria and pushed Daisy aside. "Not just anyone can stand next to Mrs. Harrington."

Hearing this, Janaye happily raised her chin. "You better listen to Eve, or she'll bust your head. Eve was assigned to Victoria by Mr. Harrington."

Eve found Janaye quite adorable, and looking at Daisy, her presence became even more imposing.

"Maybe Eve was sent by Alex to keep an eye on Victoria. The Harrington family is vast and wealthy; they can't afford to be taken advantage of by someone with ulterior motives."

Daisy muttered.

Leander, who was on the phone behind them, was startled when he heard this. After a brief exchange on the phone, he nodded, hung up, and ran forward. "Ms. Bryant, please."

"I'm going to see Alex now. His driver is personally picking me up, you get it?"

Daisy said, turning and swaying her hips as she left, feeling triumphant.

Victoria, Eve, and Janaye watched from behind. Janaye muttered again, "She's showing her true colors now."

"Let's get some lunch first."

Victoria said, pulling Janaye along.

Eve only turned to follow after seeing Leander take Daisy away.

Unexpectedly, they ended up at the same restaurant as Daisy.

Coincidentally, Adrian was also at the restaurant.

Adrian froze the moment he saw Victoria.

He was just here to take a shot.

Adrian was sitting by the window in a spacious spot, but he was alone.

He looked quite haggard, and Victoria was momentarily stunned when she saw him. Regaining her composure, she walked over and politely greeted him, "How are you?"

Adrian then averted his gaze, giving a bitter smile, "Not bad."

"It's Addie! Can we sit with you? I love your latest song, and so does my son."

Janaye said as she sat down, rubbing her belly.

Adrian gave Janaye a polite smile and then looked up at Victoria.

The four of them ended up sitting together.

Adrian's right hand was injured and wrapped in thick bandages.

Victoria didn't know how he got hurt; he looked quite disheveled. If it weren't for his generally clean appearance, he might have looked even worse.

Alexander was seated three tables away from Victoria, silently pouring coffee for himself and Daisy as if he hadn't noticed the others.

Daisy couldn't help but glance over and whisper, "I heard that boy is your cousin."

Boy?

Alexander then turned to look at Adrian, though he could only see his profile.

Adrian did look quite young.

But Alexander quickly averted his gaze from Adrian, looking at others instead.

Victoria had her back to Alexander, but precisely because Alexander couldn't see anything, his emotions were even more turbulent.

Still, Alexander had to maintain a facade of calm.

After all, if he walked over now, Victoria would surely look down on him.

Victoria already thought little of him.

Alexander picked up his coffee, took a silent sip, and inadvertently glanced over again.

Adrian went to grab the coffee pot to pour her some coffee, and Victoria instinctively raised her hand, "I'll do it."

Their fingers lightly touched, and Victoria instantly pulled away, clutching her hand.

Adrian lowered his head, giving a pained smile.

Eve and Janaye both thought Adrian seemed a bit too pitiful.

"Let me do it. How did you hurt your hand?"

Victoria tried to remain composed as she reached out, grabbed the coffee pot handle, and poured coffee while softly asking Adrian.

"Because of a scene where I had to break glass."

Adrian said despondently, watching her pour coffee for him, feeling a slight warmth in his heart.

"I heard from Ms. Montgomery that you're filming a drama. Why is it always explosions or breaking glass?"

Victoria asked casually.

Adrian, however, couldn't lift his head, overwhelmed by a surge of resentment.

He loathed himself for feeling weak and ineffective, especially when compared to Alexander.

Adrian choked up, then looked up at Victoria and asked, "Have you thought about what I mentioned last time?"

Victoria was taken aback, recalling what he had said. After pouring coffee for Eve, she gently set the coffee pot down and awkwardly withdrew her hand.

When she arrived, she had seen Alexander and Daisy.

"Are you thinking of staying?"

Adrian asked again.

Victoria turned to look at him. Did he think Alexander wasn't here?

Seeing her not answer, Adrian gave a bitter smile, took a sip of coffee, and said, "Sorry, I'm overstepping."

Janaye hadn't expected her idol Adrian to be such a hopeless romantic, and the more she looked, the more she felt for him.

Suddenly, Janaye slowly stood up, "Mr. Harrington."

Eve heard this and also stood up instantly, "Mr. Harrington."

Alexander was standing behind Victoria and Adrian, leaning over their chair backs. When he saw the bandage on Adrian's hand, he couldn't help but ask, "Did you come here injured?"

Victoria turned to see Alexander's calculating gaze directed at Adrian, then looked at Adrian as well.

Adrian smiled and said, "Yes."

Victoria looked at Adrian in surprise.

Adrian, however, spoke with a calm yet pained and resolute voice, "Alexander, I came here injured on purpose. I even hurt myself on purpose."

"That I didn't expect. Our Harrington family men have made something of themselves, even if resorting to self-harm?"

Alexander sneered at Adrian before turning his gaze to Victoria.

Alexander had to admit he was disappointed to see Victoria sitting there, but he was even more disappointed in Adrian's actions. But as Adrian's cousin, what could he do?

"Stand up."

Alexander straightened up and gave Adrian a faint command.

Adrian instinctively stood up, not thinking Alexander could do anything to him.
