Chapter 346 He Was Planning a Wedding

Victoria was on the verge of voicing her question, yet she held back until he had departed. How could he possibly confess? He was in love with a woman who was involved with another man, a woman who had even carried that man's child. Even though the pregnancy had ended prematurely, there must be a lingering knot of pain in his heart that could never be untied.Seated in silence on the sofa, Victoria found herself lost in thought, replaying his words from their elevator conversation. Had he truly done nothing simply due to a lack of evidence? Was he orchestrating a backup plan, making their affair public as part of his scheme? Was this all a performance to prove to Isabella that he was coping without her?As these thoughts swirled in her mind, Victoria's grip on the pillow in her arms tightened. Even if Alexander was prepared to resort to a secondary plan, why should she, Victoria, be relegated to the role of the backup? She yearned to be the only woman in his heart. If his affections were not hers alone, then she was sorry, but even if she loved him, she would not accept such a situation. She departed from Regal Retreat. When Alexander was unable to reach her by phone after work, he deduced that she was not at the Retreat and headed directly to her apartment. As he arrived, a call came through from The Harrington Mansion. Before returning, he ascended the stairs to her apartment.Victoria was sprawled on the sofa, lost in thought. At the sound of his arrival, she sat up and turned her gaze towards the door. "Come back to The Harrington Mansion with me," he instructed."What's wrong?" Victoria asked, a note of apprehension creeping into her voice."Something came up," was his only explanation."Okay," Victoria agreed, casting a glance at the door. She rose to her feet and headed towards the door to change her shoes. As she did so, Alexander's gaze fell upon a pair of men's slippers in her shoe cabinet, adorned with a boat symbol. He picked them up, asking, "What does this mean?""Adrian sent them over," she replied. "He said they were uncomfortable to wear. Is there a problem?""No problem," Alexander assured her, a smile lighting up his previously somber expression. Victoria was left with the impression that there truly was no issue.During the drive back to The Harrington Mansion, Alexander remained silent, only breaking the silence to ask, "Did you have a fever again this afternoon?""No," she responded, her tone flat.Alexander glanced at her, noting her lack of expression, and chose not to press the matter. She still harbored doubts about him.Upon their arrival at The Harrington Mansion, he ushered her inside before placing a call to Edward. "Bring TI's chief designer over," he instructed."Why?" Edward questioned, aware that such a renowned designer would command a hefty fee."To design a wedding dress for Mrs. Harrington's family," Alexander replied, his gaze resting on Victoria's slender figure."Are you planning a wedding?" Edward asked, surprised."Yes.""I understand, but it will be expensive.""Let it be," Alexander responded, hanging up the phone and striding inside. He had never been one to fret over costs, especially when it came to her.Her parents had not had a wedding before their departure. It had been over two years since they had left, and this belated wedding couldn't be postponed any longer. The atmosphere in the living room was tense, the elderly couple and Arabella and Maximus all wearing somber expressions. Victoria's steps grew lighter as she approached the sofa, her voice soft as she asked, "Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, Dad, what's wrong?""Sit down first," Arabella gently advised.Victoria took a seat beside them, her heart pounding in her chest. When Alexander entered the room, he frowned at the sight of their solemn faces. However, upon seeing Victoria, he quickly crossed the room and took a seat beside her.
