Chapter 678 Wearing a Wedding Ring, Holding a Little Girl

Evening, the Harrington Mansion.

"Mr. Bryant's here."

The old folks were sipping coffee in the living room when Mason barged in.

Brett and Eloise shot a look at their son and daughter-in-law, and Maximus said, "Alright, let him in."

Jerome showed up solo today, but of course, he came loaded with gifts.

"My bad for not keeping an eye on Daisy. She just can't help but be all over Alexander whenever she sees him. I know she keeps bugging him recently. But Alexander's gotta know it has nothing to do with the Bryant Group, right?"

The Harringtons were already clued in about the contract termination. Maximus, the ex-boss of the Harrington Group, said humbly, "From what I know of Alexander, he wouldn't mix business with personal stuff."

"Or did your daughter pull something she shouldn't have? Jerome, one Isabella is enough; we don't need another," Arabella said, her eyes boring into Jerome.

"How can you say that? My daughter isn't like that. I swear she wouldn't dare do anything wrong, but..."

Jerome suddenly looked troubled.

Brett and Eloise frowned at him, while Maximus and Arabella waited for him to spill the beans.

"She must've said something wrong."

Jerome thought there might still be a chance to fix things, so he decided to come clean.

"What did she say?" Eloise asked.

"Eloise, isn't everyone in town gossiping about Mrs. Victoria Harrington's death? Daisy might've taken it seriously and chatted with Tessa about it over coffee."

Jerome cautiously watched Eloise and the others, barely daring to breathe.

Arabella and Eloise immediately got pissed. Brett stayed calm, making it hard to read him. Maximus was always cool and good at hiding his feelings, but Jerome figured guys were generally more forgiving than women.

"The young couple has their issues, but Victoria's just on vacation abroad. She really shouldn't have said that."

"Mr. Alexander Harrington is back."

"Got it."

Maximus had just finished speaking calmly when a familiar voice came from the doorway.

Jerome immediately stood up, trying to be tactful.

Alexander strode into the living room, squinting slightly when he saw Jerome, then walked over. "Why are you here?"

"You're back just in time. I was just telling them I've already punished Daisy severely. Can you not terminate the contract with Bryant Group?"

"It's not about her."

"Then why..."

"Your products suck."

Alexander plopped down on a single sofa, looking at Jerome's distressed face and said, "We don't talk business at home. In the future, please don't bother my family, much appreciated."

His words were polite but firm, leaving Jerome feeling super awkward. He could only look to the elders for help.

"Is it time to eat? I'm starving," Eloise suddenly said.

"The food at home is pretty bland and might not be to Mr. Bryant's taste, so we won't invite him to join us," Brett said, standing up slowly.

"Mason, see Mr. Bryant out," Arabella called.

"Yes, Mrs. Arabella Harrington."

Mason quickly walked in. "Mr. Bryant, this way, please."

During dinner, Arabella asked Alexander, who was pouring wine for the elders with a serious look, "Is the contract termination really because their products suck?"

"Yep," Alexander replied while pouring wine for Brett.

"Not because his daughter said Victoria was dead?"

Alexander finished pouring wine for Brett and then went to pour wine for his dad, without saying another word.

Maximus held his wine glass and only looked at Alexander when he sat down. "You really not gonna look for Victoria?"

"Where would I even start?" Alexander asked, genuinely puzzled.

"Isn't that bodyguard with Victoria?" Eloise chimed in.

"Frank changed his number right after leaving with her."

So, there was no way to contact her so far, not that he didn't want to.

But despite Alexander's explanation, the elders knew that if he really wanted to find her, he could. He just chose not to.

It had been a year.

They wondered if Victoria was doing okay, if anyone was taking care of her and tending to her wounds.

After dinner, Alexander quickly went upstairs. Eloise couldn't help but mutter, "I think he's scared to look for her."

"Should we help him?" Arabella asked, unable to hold back.

Eloise was tempted, but Brett and Maximus disagreed. Maximus said, "Let's think about it."

"Would Victoria even want to see him?" Brett asked.

"But they're still married," Arabella pointed out.

A husband looking for his wife, what was wrong with that?

That incident was an accident. They were all grateful that Victoria came back immediately to save Eloise, but what did her son do wrong?

Even if he took a knife for Isabella, it was for Victoria.

Thinking about the scar on Alexander's back, Arabella couldn't help but murmur, "The scar on Alexander's back is so deep, it must have hurt him, too. But who among us has cared about him?"

After all, Alexander was her child. Thinking about his injury made Arabella tear up and she quickly got up and left.

The living room fell into silence again.

But the conflict between them had to be resolved eventually, didn't it?

Just past midnight.

On the second floor, in a quiet bedroom.

"Alexander, it's snowing."

"What?"

"Get up and look, it's snowing so heavily, it's so beautiful. Alexander, Alexander..."

Victoria lay on his chest, acting all cute, pinching his face and kissing his lips.

"Got it."

He held her small, cold hand and slowly opened his eyes.

It was indeed snowing outside, but where was the woman who used to act all cute with him?

Even the hand he was holding was just a corner of the blanket.

Alexander slowly let go. How could the touch of the blanket compare to her hand?

It was worlds apart.

He looked despondently at the ceiling light, then turned over and closed his eyes again.

But after a few minutes, he still couldn't see her.

Instead, the snow outside finally got to him.

They had promised to watch the snow together.

Not long after, Alexander got out of bed and walked outside.

Arabella, who had gone to the bathroom and was now looking at the snow outside, saw the lonely figure in the yard and couldn't help but whisper, "Honey, come look, I think it's Alexander."

"What?" Maximus woke up, put on his coat and walked over to her.

It was definitely Alexander.

"What is he doing out there so late? It's too cold. You should call him back."

"Forget it."

Maximus looked at Alexander's figure and thought, 'What else could a man be doing standing in the cold snow in the middle of the night?'

He was just missing her.

Arabella looked at her son with a lump in her throat. "How can we help him?"

"Only he can help himself," Maximus said, holding Arabella's shoulder.

But the next morning, Arabella rushed into Alexander's room. "Alexander, get up quickly. Adrian has a kid now, what's going on?"

"What?" Alexander grumbled as he got up.

"Look, he's wearing a wedding ring and holding a little girl."

Arabella anxiously showed him the photo.
