Chapter 1019 Unable to Resist Curling Up

After Alexander hung up, he tossed his phone aside with a cold indifference and went to exercise.

People always get what they deserve for their actions.

The rewards, whether good or bad, can even be life-threatening, all depending on the seeds they've sown.

He was heartless now, but he had no reason to be otherwise.

He used to think, 'How bad could a woman be?'

But now he realized, evil knows no gender.

As for the trouble with the Bryant Group, it was indeed because the Bryant Group had acted recklessly.

Initially, Alexander planned to let bygones be bygones.

But Victoria had changed after hearing those words.

She was influenced, even though she had been kind to him last night.

Alexander ran a lap along the beach and returned just in time to see the housekeeper helping Victoria out.

"You're back, Mr. Harrington. Mrs. Harrington was just waiting for you at the door."

"Really?"

Alexander slowed his long strides, gazing at the woman bathed in sunlight, her eyes sparkling.

Though she couldn't see, he thought she looked stunning at that moment.

Victoria heard his lazy voice and felt a sudden rush of shyness.

Alexander walked up to her, his tall frame standing before her, his deep voice asking, "Waiting for me?"

Victoria shyly but bravely nodded.

Seeing the housekeeper supporting her, Alexander took over.

The housekeeper stepped back and went inside.

Alexander held Victoria by her slender waist and led her to the door. "What made you decide to wait for me out here?"

Victoria smiled softly and lifted her head.

Alexander looked at her and thought it was probably because the housekeeper had told her the weather was nice today.

He glanced at the warm sunlight and then back at her, silently vowing that he would make sure she could see it someday.

When Victoria felt herself being embraced, she quietly leaned against him, listening to his heartbeat. She felt a bit uneasy at first, but soon calmed down.

She told herself not to be overly nervous, not to make a fuss.

Love was something everyone seemed to learn instinctively, without a teacher.

After breakfast, Alexander suggested taking her to work, and this time she didn't refuse.

Graham almost thought she was there to fire him when he saw her.

Alexander changed into a neat suit for work and dressed her in her usual clothes, with a camel coat over them.

He led her to the secretary's desk and reminded her, "You used to work here."

Victoria's hand was placed on the desk, and she gently touched it.

She couldn't imagine how happy she must have been if she had worked here.

She had parents, though they passed away early.

She had gone to college, had a job, and held a high position as a secretary.

She wasn't born into darkness; she had seen the sun, the sea, the rain, and the wind.

Her eyes inexplicably welled up.

If he truly was her husband, she must have seen him before.

"Mrs. Harrington, get well soon. I'm looking forward to retiring."

Graham spoke to her calmly.

Though they hadn't met often, Victoria had always been a sensible, gentle girl in his mind—thoughtful, meticulous, and perceptive, perfect for the job.

Of course, the important thing was, how could a good girl like her not see this beautiful world?

Victoria listened and smiled, nodding in thanks.

Alexander took her to his office and asked Graham to make coffee.

At eleven, they had an appointment for acupuncture. Alexander looked at her delicate skin and felt reluctant about the needles.

But they had to try.

Victoria sat on the sofa, soon hearing a knock on the door. She felt a bit nervous.

"Come in."

Alexander was beside her, reading documents. With her condition, he stayed close to give her a sense of security.

Shoure entered with files, seeing Victoria, and couldn't help but be happy. "I thought everyone was joking, but Mrs. Harrington is here to supervise."

Alexander turned to Victoria, holding her hand as he spoke.

Victoria smiled politely, guessing it was a colleague who knew her.

"I'm Shoure. No memory at all?"

Shoure stepped forward, looking at her with confusion.

When he first heard she couldn't remember the past, he didn't think much of it. But seeing her now, he felt deeply saddened.

Victoria smiled and shook her head, indicating she truly didn't remember.

Shoure felt bad but still encouraged her, "Don't worry, with modern medicine, you'll be cured soon."

Victoria was always happy to hear such words and smiled at him.

Alexander reviewed the files Shoure handed him and signed them.

Shoure hesitated before speaking, "Jerome has been asking me to plead for mercy."

"What did I do?"

Alexander handed the signed files back and asked.

"I've been avoiding him, but sometimes he corners me, saying he doesn't dare trouble you anymore and can only ask me."

"Handle it as you see fit."

Alexander signaled not to discuss this further in front of Victoria.

Shoure understood and quickly left with the files.

In the morning, they went to the hospital for acupuncture. Victoria sat still, her hands tightly clenched.

Alexander moved a chair beside her, holding her hand. "Don't be afraid, I'm here."

Victoria felt his warmth and calmed down a bit, but she was very scared.

Could acupuncture restore her sight?

She didn't know. The pain was secondary; the fear was paramount.

She couldn't imagine what was being done to her head, having no memory of it, only feeling many things from her neck up.

Alexander had the doctor give him a couple of needles, too, wanting to know what it felt like, then looked at her.

He thought they could endure a course of treatment.

He hoped that she wouldn't have to deal with acupuncture anymore.

The rest of her life should be filled with health and happiness.

They had lunch at Frosty Summit Hotel, then drove home for a nap.

Alexander couldn't hide his joy at Victoria now willingly in his arms, gently stroking her shoulder without taking things further.

As Victoria slept in his arms, he thought about how she had been afraid to sleep, worried he'd hear her talking in her sleep.

Were they moving too fast?

Alexander felt a pang of sadness.

Later, Edward invited him to play ball, but he declined, focusing on Victoria.

Victoria still had nightmares, dreaming of being kicked and punched, avoiding her face but hitting her body.

She felt her stomach ache terribly, each kick hard and forceful.

She curled up instinctively, whimpering, tears streaming down.
