Chapter 31 Ambiguity
When his towering figure arrived at the concert venue, he could only stand on the sidelines. He couldn’t see what was happening on the stage clearly but a young man was kneeling under a woman's skirt. She had changed into a long white skirt so quickly.
She was magnified infinitely on the big screen, showing her sitting upright. But her tightly clasped hands gave away her shy and nervous emotions. The man was singing into the microphone and looking at her with affectionate eyes. The fans in the audience were already crazy; their deafening screams echoed through the venue incessantly.
On the stage, the music stopped. "Baby, will you marry me?"
"Say yes! Say yes! Say yes!" The audience was full of such voices, shaking her to her core. But she still smiled and very politely said, "I'm sorry, although I wan to say yes; I'm married."
——
After the concert ended, everyone was still reluctant to leave. Victoria walked out alone, still holding the ring in her hand. She was married but didn't have a ring.
She looked up in confusion, not sure if it was a good place to hail a taxi. But as soon as she looked up, she saw that the car was still there, and the driver had already come to greet her. "Miss Kensington, please get in the car."
"Okay." She nodded in agreement and followed the driver to the car. But the fact that he was still inside made her hesitate. She stood at the car door, asking, "Can I sit in the front?"
"Please, Miss Kensington." The driver smiled and still let her sit in the back.
Victoria had to get in, but she became even more restrained. She was holding a ring that someone else had given her, even though it was just for temporary exposure, but... the person sitting next to her was her husband in name. This feeling was, no matter how you put it, very strange.
She didn't know what to say. Should she ask him why he was still here? Or thank him for waiting for her for so long? His phone rang again, and she held her breath, afraid to disturb his call.
"We're on our way back, yes, that's it, goodbye." He was smiling when he was on the phone, but after he hung up, he suddenly seemed gloomy and looked out the window.
The wind outside was getting stronger, as if it were about to rain heavily. Alexander looked out the car window, and after a long time, he laughed and asked her, "Do you like it that much?"
She was confused by his question, and she slowly turned her head to look at him, "What?" Alexander turned his gaze downward, looking at her tightly clenched hand.
"What's in your hand?" He asked, his voice deep and powerful.
Victoria suddenly felt her palm soften. In her hand was a ring that they never gave to each other, a ring given to her by someone else. "It was just a little game."
"Is this the important thing you mentioned?" Alexander asked her casually.
"Yes." She agreed. She had promised Adrian that she would come and support him, although the outcome was different from what she had thought.
Alexander listened and smiled, then looked out the window again. The scenery outside was all too familiar to him, but at this moment, he felt a bit strange. He had only been away for two years. These two years...
His phone rang again; he saw it was Benjamin and picked up, "What's up now?"
"We're short one player."
"Wait a moment." He hung up the phone. "Go back to the hotel."
Victoria had just lowered her head when she had to look at him again, "We’re going back to the hotel?"
"Yes, they're short one player." He explained briefly. They were going to play cards. Victoria looked at him and decided not to interfere.
But soon she remembered that Isabella had asked him to return early. "Miss Montgomery asked you to return early." She really didn't want to bring it up, but she had to. Because if she didn't say it, she wouldn't be a competent secretary, she would... It would be as if she still had fantasies about him.
But there really weren't any left. He and Isabella already had a child. However, the car still drove to the front of the hotel. As they sat in the car, he suddenly approached her. Victoria reflexively moved back, her thin back pressing firmly against the back of the seat.
He was right in front of her, their breaths intertwining as he looked at her coldly, "If you care about her so much, go tell her yourself that I'm at the hotel and let her come find me."
