Chapter324 The Confession After Getting Drunk
Victoria clung to his neck, her gaze unwavering as she stared directly into his eyes. At his question, she merely leaned in closer, her silence speaking volumes. However, within a fleeting moment, her wide eyes bore into his with an intensity that took him aback.
"Accuse me not of taking advantage of you," Alexander cautioned.
He found himself captivated by Victoria's soft, playful demeanor, an allure he found hard to resist. Gently, he scooped her up in his arms and made his way indoors.
Victoria remained silent, her gaze fixed on him, causing a blush to creep up his cheeks. It was a rare occurrence for Alexander to blush under someone's gaze, and on the few occasions it had happened, it was always Victoria who was the cause.
Once he had laid her on the expansive bed, she released her hold on him, her gaze following his every move as he approached her.
"I have yet to give you with a birthday gift," Alexander murmured.
Upon hearing his words, Victoria paused to consider, then gave a slight nod of acknowledgment.
Finding her unusually compliant, Alexander reached out to stroke her hair, his voice soft as he asked, "What gift would you like?"
"Alexander," Victoria's response was immediate and unexpected.
Hearing his name on her lips made his own feel dry. He cast his gaze towards her neck before asking, "Is this your wish? To have me, without reservation, as your gift?"
Victoria, in her inebriated state, responded with a reserved smile. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes glazed and hazy.
This sight intoxicated Alexander, prompting him to softly ask, "Victoria, who am I?"
"Alexander," she replied in a soft whisper, her gaze still entranced.
"Yes, I am Alexander, your husband," he confirmed, feeling the need to emphasize his role in her life.
At the mention of the word 'husband', Victoria abruptly pulled the quilt up to cover half her face, leaving only her wide eyes visible to him.
Alexander noticed a flicker of disappointment in her eyes. He moved closer, gently caressing her cheek as he asked, "What's wrong?"
Victoria remained silent, biting her lip briefly before releasing it and hiding her eyes beneath the quilt.
"Victoria?" Alexander called out to her, gently pulling the quilt away from her face. To his surprise, he found her features contorted in sorrow, tears streaming down her face.
His heart clenched with worry, "What happened?" he asked.
"He left," Victoria's voice was hoarse, her words hesitant.
"What did you say?" Alexander's voice faltered.
Victoria's tears flowed unabated.
"Alexander abandoned me," she sobbed, her words broken and disjointed.
Alexander felt as though he'd been struck, her eyes reflecting a growing desolation.
"He hasn't abandoned you," he reassured her, wiping away her tears with a low, hoarse voice.
"He has. He left me alone. He thinks I'm morally blackmailing him," Victoria cried out.
"No, Victoria, he doesn't see you that way," Alexander asserted.
"Yes, he does. He told me himself," Victoria retorted childishly. Her words were punctuated by fresh tears.
"Who told you that?" Alexander demanded.
Victoria clutched the quilt tighter, falling silent. Despite her drunken state, she remained wary, as though fearful of being deceived or manipulated.
"He doesn't think you're morally blackmailing him. He just hasn't figured out what to do." Alexander explained.
"He does! He despises me. He abandoned me. He even allowed other women to bear his children. Everyone knows that!" Victoria shouted.
"It's not true," Alexander said.
"But everyone is saying it," Victoria sobbed, her sense of injustice so overwhelming that she wept like a child, gasping for breath between sobs.
