Chapter 33 The Diamond Ring
"So, don't call me Miss Montgomery in the future, call me sister."
"Sister?" Victoria was taken aback.
"After I get married to Alex, you can call him brother-in-law. This way, we'll be even closer. I'm an only child, and I've always wanted a younger sister." Isabella continued to speak happily.
Victoria uncomfortably withdrew her hand from Isabella's and smiled, but didn't agree.
Seeing her pull her hand away, Isabella suddenly looked worried and asked softly, "What? You don't want to? It's okay if you don't want to. Alex is a few years older than you, and you call him Mr. Harrington at the company, but in private, you can call him big brother. I think being your sister-in-law is the same. If you call me sister-in-law, I will also treat you as a real younger sister."
The elevator stopped.
"Miss Montgomery, this is your floor." Victoria responded with a smile.
In her view, Isabella didn't have any responsibility towards her; they didn’t have anything to do with each other.
Isabella reluctantly parted from her, and Victoria went upstairs alone.
That night, she lay alone in bed, unable to sleep for a long time.
Turning over unintentionally, she saw the sofa and remembered him lying there last night. She turned again, uneasily facing away.
But her heart was beating faster and faster.
Actually, all she wanted was for everyone to just let her leave.
But the elders of the Harrington family seem to have a strong sense of responsibility, fearing that she might be wronged. But she wasn’t happy to stay here anymore. During the two years that Alexander was away, there was a time when she hoped every day for his return. She felt that as long as he came back, they would have hope. But after two years, everything seemed to have changed. When he came back, she wasn't happy, and even became uncomfortable.
Unintentionally seeing the ring next to the pillow, she couldn't help but hold it in her hand, silently focusing on it. The elders in this family all wear wedding rings, even the servants. Initially, she said she wasn't used to wearing a ring as an excuse because Alexander never mentioned buying her a wedding ring. Naturally, she didn't buy him one either. But... could it be that all girls still hoped that the person they like would give them a ring, showing their commitment?
It wasn't until after midnight that she finally fell asleep.
Meanwhile, in a private room of the Harrington Hotel, the cards on the table had just been collected, and the late-night snacks were laid out one by one. William and Sebastian had left earlier, leaving only Edward and Benjamin with him.
Finally, Benjamin asked the pressing question on his mind, "You said during dinner that she has a say here, what do you mean?"
Alexander lifted his eyelids, and then just smiled faintly, "Just the literal meaning."
"So, the literal meaning is that you care about your wife, who you haven't asked about in two years?" Edward also expressed his doubts.
"Why wouldn't I care?" Alexander retorted.
Edward and Benjamin laughed, and Edward continued to ask him, "Aren't you getting a divorce?"
"Grandma won't allow it." Alexander replied.
They all knew about Old Lady Harrington's hospitalization.
"Originally, Old Lady Harrington didn't allow you to leave, but you still left when you said you were going to. Now, how come when Old Lady Harrington says no, you're not getting a divorce?" Edward continued to ask.
Noticing Alexander's frustrated look, Benjamin asked even more, "Alex, have you fallen for Victoria?"
Then the private room fell silent.
"She is my wife," was all Alexander said.
Benjamin looked at him with interest and continued, "By 'wife,' do you mean you like her or not? Don't forget that Isabella is pregnant."
Upon hearing this, Alexander suddenly leaned over, picked up a cigarette from the open metal cigarette box on the table, and was about to light it when he suddenly stopped.
Yes, Isabella was pregnant.
But Victoria was really his wife.
"You know, even if you suddenly fall for Victoria, you can't be with her. Isabella is pregnant, which means you have to marry her," Edward seriously reminded him.
"Meaning, your divorce from Victoria is just a matter of time," Benjamin also mentioned.
"Is that so?"
