Chapter 271 The Summon for Divorce

Seated in the private quarters of Harrington Company's clubhouse in Ankenra, Alexander cradled his phone, a bitter smile etched on his face, a silent mockery of his own predicament.

His companions, Benjamin and Edward, watched him with furrowed brows. Lately, they had been cautious around Alexander. His demeanor had shifted, growing increasingly reticent. He had been fine upon his return, but in recent days, he had become noticeably aloof.

Alexander's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, primarily fixated on one question: why had Victoria chosen to delete his WhatsApp contact now? She could have done so when they got married, when he went abroad. She should have done it earlier. But now, now that he had fallen for her, she had chosen to erase him from her life.

His heart ached at the thought, and he felt like a fool. He couldn't fathom what he had been hoping for.

As Benjamin and Edward watched in silence, Alexander dialed a familiar number.

"Hello?" Victoria's voice was raspy, but she had picked up.

"What's wrong with you?" Alexander asked, his voice laced with concern.

"I'm sleeping. What's up?" Victoria responded.

"Come back for the divorce procedure," he finally managed to utter, his face clouded with gloom.

"What procedure?" Victoria sounded confused.

"Divorce procedure." With that, Alexander ended the call.

Victoria didn't call back, and he clutched his phone so tightly it threatened to shatter.

Benjamin and Edward held their breaths, but curiosity got the better of them. "Have you thought it through? Do you really want to divorce her?"

"Yes," Alexander responded, his gaze fixed on his phone as he struggled to keep his emotions in check.

Hearing Victoria's hoarse voice had stirred worry within him. He was grateful she wasn't there in person. If he had inadvertently shown his concern...

Alexander didn't mind if Benjamin and Edward teased him, but if Victoria had seen it, she would surely assume he still harbored feelings for her.

'Damn it!' He cursed inwardly.

With that, Alexander left the room. No one attempted to stop him. Only after he had left did Edward venture to ask, "Do you think he really wants a divorce?"

"It doesn't seem fake." Benjamin pondered for a moment before responding.

Edward agreed. When Alexander had spoken, he had seemed sincere. But if Victoria were to return, they might not actually go through with the divorce.

"What if we make a bet?"

"And what would you bet on?" Benjamin asked, looking at Edward.

Edward hesitated for a moment. "I bet they will get divorced. I feel like that girl never really belonged in our circle."

Upon hearing this, Benjamin smiled and said, "Alright, I bet they won't get divorced."

Edward looked at him. "Why are you so sure?"

Benjamin smiled again. "Haven't you noticed how depressed he has been? Since he got married, how many happy days has he had?"

"What are you trying to say?" Edward asked.

"All these days have had something to do with Victoria," Benjamin replied.

Edward was taken aback. Indeed, ever since Alexander got married, he had rarely seen him happy.

For those two years, Alexander had been consumed by work. When he returned to Ankenra, he had changed. He behaved like a man in love, and it was all because of Victoria. His intense gaze towards Victoria was undeniable.

Alexander had initially planned to return to Regal Retreat, but halfway there, he found himself in an unfamiliar neighborhood. It had been a long time since he last visited. The last time was when someone had come to install glass for Victoria.

Jasmine had mentioned that Victoria had given her money, which Jasmine had then handed over to him. As a husband, there was nothing wrong with accepting money from his wife.

No, it was important. But Victoria had actually blocked him!
Alexander wondered, 'Why does she sound hoarse? Is she sleeping or sick?'

He thought of Victoria's delicate body. He could feel her bones with a touch. It had been raining a lot over there recently, so she may have caught a cold. She didn't know how to take care of herself very well. She would kick the blanket in her sleep.

Alexander sat down on the mattress, which was still wrapped in plastic. He looked down at the ring on his hand and wondered if she still wore hers.

A week later, Alexander found himself calling Victoria again. "When are you coming back to handle the procedure?"

"Sorry, I can't do it for now..." Victoria replied, guilt evident in her voice.

"Victoria, think it through. You only have one chance." Alexander was about to hang up after delivering his ultimatum.
