Chapter 297 Guidance
After arriving at Regal Retreat, Alexander didn't return to his place since no one was cooking. Benjamin liked cooking, so he went directly to the dining area of Benjamin's house on the first floor.
Much to his surprise, Benjamin found Alexander awaiting his return, evidently expecting a meal. He entered the living room, where Alexander was engrossed in a replay of a basketball game, and inquired, "Why the early return? Didn't you bring Victoria along?"Alexander responded affirmatively, his tone laced with a hint of dissatisfaction. Victoria's constant rejection was a thorn in his side. Benjamin, noting Alexander's continued failure to win Victoria over, chose to remain silent and proceeded to prepare their meal. Unexpectedly, Alexander uncorked a bottle of wine, seemingly in the mood for a drink or two.As dinner time rolled around, not only was Alexander present, but Edward had also made his way to Benjamin's home. The two men, sharing similar dispositions, had a mutual understanding of each other. Edward, cutting straight to the chase, asked, "So, you've decided against the divorce again?"Alexander, nursing his wine glass, affirmed Edward's question. Edward's brow furrowed in response, a sigh of resignation escaping his lips. Had he lost yet another wager with Benjamin? He resolved not to place any more bets on Alexander's tumultuous relationship with Victoria. Meanwhile, Benjamin, in high spirits, poured them both a drink.Alexander turned to Benjamin, curiosity piqued, "Were you two betting on our divorce?""I wagered that you wouldn't go through with it," Benjamin confessed, "I surmised that you only brought up divorce because Victoria was taking her time to return. You were too embarrassed to ask her to come back, so you concocted this scheme."Alexander remained silent, taken aback. He didn't feel embarrassed in the slightest. He had made it clear that he was waiting for Victoria in Ankenra."Why did you wager with me then? I had the same idea," Edward interjected, feeling duped.Their conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door. Benjamin, recognizing the sound of the footsteps, whispered, "That should be Isabella."Edward remained silent, casting a glance towards the door. As predicted, it was Isabella."So, I'm not the only one who was lured in by the smell of dinner. You're all here," Isabella remarked cheerfully. She made herself at home, grabbing a set of utensils and taking a seat next to Alexander. However, the overpowering scent of her perfume was too much for Alexander. He promptly set down his wine glass and rose from his seat, "Enjoy your meal. I'm done.""Alexander, I just got here. Are you leaving already?" Isabella asked."Yes," Alexander responded tersely, making his exit without a backward glance.Isabella, left staring at the wine glass Alexander had abandoned, felt a pang of disappointment. She reached for the bottle, poured herself a glass, and downed it in one go."Won't any of you help me?" Isabella asked."With what?" Edward asked, puzzled."Do you truly believe he and Victoria are a good match?""Why wouldn't they be? Men and women are meant to be together," Benjamin retorted."But Victoria..." Isabella began, intending to argue with Edward, but she stopped herself. She had to tread carefully to avoid revealing her true intentions."What's wrong with Victoria?" Edward probed further."Hasn't it struck you as odd that Victoria has been behaving differently since her return? She has injuries on her wrists," Isabella hinted."She was caught up in a home invasion. We're all aware of that, aren't we?" Edward countered."A home robbery? Haven't you seen the news from abroad? Besides, if it was merely a robbery, why would she be so severely injured?" Isabella insinuated.Edward and Benjamin, taking her words into consideration, naturally veered towards a more sinister interpretation. But if they could deduce this, surely Alexander, who spent every waking moment with Victoria, would have reached the same conclusion?"As Alexander's closest friends, don't you feel obligated to bring this speculation to his attention?" Isabella said.
