Chapter 240 An Auspicious Marriage

Victoria's gaze lifted, locking with his. "Mr. Montgomery, is there something you need?" she asked, her voice steady.

Rohans, with a tone of caution, replied, "Young lady, I would advise you that your marriage does not bode well."

Victoria's brow furrowed in displeasure at his well-intentioned but unwelcome warning.

"Perhaps we should sit and discuss this matter when you have a moment," Rohans suggested, his voice gentle. "There are certain things you should be aware of."

"I believe there is nothing I need to learn from you, Mr. Montgomery," Victoria replied instantly, her tone final. Rohans offered her a small smile and exited without another word.

Jasmine let out a gasp, her eyes wide. "I've never seen anyone dare to refuse Mr. Montgomery to his face before."

Victoria turned to her, her expression questioning. "Why do you fear him? He doesn't even pay us."

"But he has a knack for causing trouble," Jasmine countered. "Rumor has it that anyone who crosses him disappears."

Victoria felt a twinge of fear but quickly dismissed it. Her phone rang, interrupting her thoughts. She picked it up, answering with a curt, "Hello."

After a brief conversation, she hung up, her mind racing. The cleaning was done, so what was next? A new bed, she decided, though the thought of the room made her feel slightly dizzy.

Jasmine, engrossed in her phone, suddenly exclaimed, "Vicky, look at this." Victoria leaned in, her eyes scanning the screen. The content left her stunned.

"It's you and Mr. Harrington," Jasmine said, her voice filled with surprise. Victoria's cheeks flushed a deep red, her gaze instinctively darting towards the office. "Were you two secretly filmed? But..." Jasmine trailed off, her eyes wide. The image didn't look like a secret filming, it looked more like... a selfie.

Victoria recognized it too and felt a surge of anger. She wanted to confront him, but she didn't dare. She remembered the kiss in his office and forced herself to stay calm. Thankfully, Alexander had agreed to her business trip next week, and she would soon have her passport back. She didn't care about her household registration, at least not now. What mattered was that she could leave this place. But before she left, she needed to fix the house for the landlord.

During lunch, Victoria and Jasmine visited a furniture store. They had initially planned to shop online, but the delivery would take too long. Victoria was not one to dawdle while shopping, so she quickly selected the necessary furniture.

When Jasmine entered Victoria's house, she noted the cleanliness but also the draftiness. "Vicky, why are you living alone? This place looks a bit dangerous," she asked, her voice filled with concern.

"Just temporarily," Victoria smiled and said.

The glass measurer had already taken the measurements, and the custom-made windows would arrive in two weeks. Victoria decided to entrust this task to Jasmine.

Jasmine didn't refuse, but she asked curiously, "Why don't you live with Mr. Harrington? Aren't you two married?"

She remembered the photos from the previous night, and they seemed to be getting along well.

"Didn't you hear Mr. Montgomery say that my marriage is in trouble?" Victoria replied, her voice laced with irony.

"What?" Jasmine asked, her eyes wide.

"Let's go, let's go back," Victoria said, wrapping her arm around Jasmine's shoulders as they headed back to the office building.

Jasmine had expected Victoria to vehemently oppose Rohans, just like she had done before, and choose to be with their boss. But their interaction at lunch had made Jasmine think otherwise.

Victoria, who was around the same age as Jasmine, seemed cautious and thoughtful, as if she had other plans.

As dusk fell, Jasmine left to have dinner with her parents, while Victoria prepared to visit the hospital to see Madam. As she descended the stairs, she noticed a sports car parked outside.

The convertible top was down, and a man wearing sunglasses sat in the driver's seat. The car exuded an aura of aloofness, warning strangers to keep their distance.
