Chapter 204 He Said, You're Jealous
Just as the elevator doors were on the brink of closing, a large hand wedged itself at the entrance, forcing them to retract. The figure that emerged from the shadows was him, his gaze icy as it locked onto her. Without a moment's hesitation, he lunged towards her.
The instant their eyes met, tears welled up in her eyes and began to cascade down her cheeks. As he advanced, she instinctively retreated, her back soon finding the cold metal of the elevator wall.
Yet, this time, she refused to cower. Her spine straightened, her chin lifted, and she held her ground with a newfound determination. She was no longer the timid woman he once knew. She convinced herself of this.
She returned his stare with a defiance that surprised even her. She would not be so easily intimidated, not by this despicable man. A silent curse echoed in her heart.
"The incessant chatter was all theirs," he stated, his voice as steady as his gaze.
Victoria Kensington clutched the files in her arms, his cryptic words leaving her puzzled. They were the ones who wouldn't stop talking? She didn't understand his implication, but it didn't matter. All she knew was...
"You abandoned the woman you're engaged to in the office with another man, just to confront me about this?" she retorted, her stubbornness catching her off guard.
Alexander Harrington regarded her fiery spirit, his heart softening. He released a sigh, one that carried a hint of helplessness. "Did I ever request that our relationship be made public?"
She remained silent.
"Wasn't it you who feigned ignorance, begging me to keep our relationship a secret?" he continued, his tone accusatory.
Again, she offered no response.
"And now, you refuse to wear the ring I bought for you, yet you complain about being mistaken as someone else's bride-to-be?" His interrogation was relentless.
Victoria glared at him, her anger simmering just beneath the surface. "I'm not complaining," she managed to spit out.
"Then what is this?" Alexander pressed, noting her struggle to hold back her tears.
"I... Alexander Harrington, just leave me alone." Her voice wavered, her lips trembling, tears spilling over her lashes. All she could do was plead for him to leave.
"You're jealous," he stated.
"I am not," she denied.
"You are. You're jealous," he repeated.
"I'm not! Just go, ugh!" Her anger flared. Why did he keep insisting she was jealous?
But the moment she pushed him away, he seized her waist and pulled her towards him, capturing her lips in a fierce kiss. His grip was so tight it was almost painful, yet his kiss was commanding. The files slipped from her grasp, clattering onto the elevator floor, mirroring the sinking feeling in her heart.
She couldn't push him away, and the hurt came swiftly. Her tongue tasted blood, the metallic tang shocking her into submission. But he only deepened the kiss, his intensity unyielding.
It wasn't until she felt her knees buckle that he finally released her, his arms supporting her weight. He pulled back to look at her, their eyes meeting in a silent exchange. Victoria, leaning against the wall for support, tried to push him away again.
But Alexander was quicker. He caught her wrists and pulled her towards him. Her face landed against his chest, and he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. "I proposed to you because I thought I had gotten you pregnant. But when I found out I hadn't, I backed out," he explained, his eyes resolute.
He wanted to clear any misunderstandings between them. "Victoria Kensington, I know whose husband I am, and I've always been faithful. I've never been interested in other women. So, stop letting your imagination run wild, okay?"
Victoria remained limp in his arms, his words washing over her. But all she could feel was a deep, aching sorrow.
He gently lifted her chin, his gaze searching hers. "You won't admit you're jealous, will you? So how about admitting you've doubled the sugar in my coffee?"
"It was Miss Montgomery who instructed me to add the sugar," she retorted, deflecting his teasing.
"Oh, so she intends to sweeten me to death?" he asked, a smirk playing on his lips.
Victoria responded with silence.
