Chapter 232 If You Can’t Prove It, Then Forget It

Alexander's jaw tightened as he released Victoria, rising to his feet. He understood the reality of their situation; she could not prove her virginity. His gaze fell upon the girl sprawled across the bed. In her innocent eyes, he could see the assumption she had made about him and Isabella.

A laugh, harsh and bitter, erupted from him as he lunged towards her once more. "If I can't prove it, then forget it," he declared. Victoria felt his grip tighten around her waist, his breath mingling with hers in a dance too intimate for comfort. She struggled to maintain her composure, her gaze locked onto his predatory eyes as she whispered, "I... I want a divorce."

"Whether you want it or not is irrelevant," Alexander retorted, leaning in to steal another kiss.

Victoria held her breath, enduring the intrusion for a few agonizing seconds before Alexander released her. He was mindful of the wound on her face, his lips only briefly meeting hers. It was far from satisfying, but he had no other choice.

"Since you agreed to marry me initially, you can't divorce me now," he stated.

Victoria's brow furrowed in confusion. Hadn't he been the one advocating for a divorce?

"I'm going to take a shower," Alexander announced, rising to his feet and striding towards the bathroom.

Victoria's heart fluttered erratically as she watched him leave, her gaze dropping to the floor. The shrill ring of a phone echoed from the bathroom. She had left it there earlier when she had undressed. She moved to retrieve it, but halted when she caught sight of Alexander, stark naked, holding her phone.

Embarrassment washed over her as Alexander met her gaze, his expression icy. "I'll decide whether she's okay or not. Don't call her in the middle of the night again," he spoke into the phone before hanging up and placing it on the sink. He then disappeared into the shower cubicle.

Victoria quickly averted her gaze, her cheeks burning. She cautiously entered the bathroom to retrieve her phone only after he had closed the shower door. Her heart pounded in her chest like a drum. She had no intention of admiring Alexander's physique.

She quietly exited the bathroom and dialed Adrian's number. He answered promptly, "Vicky?"

"Yes, Adrian, how's your dad?"

"He's fine now. And you? How are you?"

Adrian's voice was laced with concern.

"I... I'm fine."

She thought about the day's events, but how could she share them with someone so far away? They were just friends.

"I'm glad you're okay. Are you... with Alexander?"

"Yes."

"Vicky, are you... together with him?" Adrian asked after a lengthy pause.

He was aware of Victoria's longstanding feelings for Alexander, and since Alexander's return, he had been unusually attentive towards her. It wasn't the first time they had spent the late hours together.

"We..."

"Honey, fetch my pajamas for me."

Victoria was about to deny their relationship when Alexander's voice echoed from the bathroom door. He had called her 'honey' and asked her to fetch his pajamas.

"Be quick, just grab a robe. I don't like sleeping in underwear."

Alexander's head peeked out from behind the door, his expression serious. Each word he spoke was firm and assertive. Victoria shot him a glare, feeling a surge of annoyance. She was convinced he was doing this on purpose.

"Hurry up," Alexander reminded her coolly.

Victoria, now seething, rose to her feet and rummaged through the wardrobe for a robe. She thrust it towards him, saying, "Here, take it."

She had intended to toss it at him, but he caught her arm instead, pinning her against the cold bathroom wall.
