Chapter 228 The Return to Claim Her

A voice, firm and authoritative, broke the silence. "Madam, we received a call to the police. Are you unharmed?"

Only then did she pivot her head, her gaze meeting the source of the voice. Two officers, notebooks clutched in their hands, stood at a distance. Beside them, a tall figure was striding towards her.

She was rendered speechless, her eyes locked onto his approaching form. Her reaction was akin to a frightened child catching sight of their parents, teetering on the brink of tears. But the realization that he was not her parent steeled her resolve. She bit her lip, her chin crinkling, her gaze unwavering as she studied his face.

"You can't live alone anymore," Alexander declared, crouching beside her. His gaze was intense, his command stern. Without a moment's hesitation, he scooped her up from the ground.

This time, Victoria responded by wrapping her arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder, no longer able to suppress her tears. All she could do was ensure she didn't sob out loud.

The police, standing by the doorway, observed the scene unfolding before them. "Sir, we received a report of vandalism at your residence. We need her cooperation," they reminded them.

"We can cooperate downstairs," Alexander responded nonchalantly, carrying her towards the exit.

He had initially left with the intention of fetching medicine to treat her wound, planning to return to her side. However, seeing her as vulnerable as a frightened rabbit in the hospital, he decided to take her with him.

Upon his return, he was greeted by the sight of two police officers. A sense of foreboding washed over him, intensifying when he took in the disarray of her home. The sight of her, sitting motionless in the doorway, staring at the chaos that was once her bed, left him feeling breathless.

One of the officers approached the bed, examining the mess. "It's chicken blood," he announced.

Victoria listened silently, her gaze lifting once more.

"Don't look at it," Alexander cautioned, carrying her outside. The officers trailed behind them.

Soon, Victoria found herself nestled in the plush interior of his luxury car. The officers stood outside, their focus solely on their investigation.

"Have you recently offended anyone?" one officer inquired.

Victoria was certain the Montgomery family was behind this, but she hesitated to voice her suspicions. Would he allow her to speak?

"There's a family by the name of Montgomery," Alexander interjected.

Victoria turned to him in surprise, not expecting him to reveal their suspicions. The officers, hearing Alexander's words, seemed relieved to have a lead. They diligently noted down the information.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Isabella was dining with her parents.

"We should just teach her a lesson. Intimidation isn't working," Naomi suggested.

"We should tread carefully, avoid direct confrontation. What do you think, Isabella?" Rohans queried, turning to his daughter.

"I agree with Dad," Isabella responded earnestly, her gaze meeting her parents'.

"Have you not seen how arrogant she is, relying on the Harrington family for support? Being patient won't work," Naomi argued, her disdain for the girl evident.

A knock at the door interrupted their conversation. All three turned towards the door.

"Come in," Rohans invited.

The door swung open to reveal two police officers. Naomi and Rohans immediately rose from their seats, while Isabella froze. Had Victoria really contacted the police? She was indeed audacious.

Isabella found her dislike for the girl intensifying. Did she believe that her youth gave her an edge over Isabella? She was determined to win Alexander back. She thought it would be better if Victoria miscarried.
