Chapter 658 Her Presence Proved My Love for You
After the Bryants bailed, Arabella said, "Their pop-in must mean something, right?"
"Yeah, there's this project he's eyeing, but I didn't hand it over," Alexander shot back, no hesitation.
Everyone's eyes were on him, and he just shrugged, "Couldn't find a good reason to pick the Bryant Group."
"That's your call, but why's Daisy still around?" Arabella pressed.
"I don't mess with the PR department's stuff," Alexander replied coolly.
"You really shouldn't be so hands-off," Arabella said, shaking her head.
Alexander just grinned and glanced at Victoria.
From her face, it was clear Victoria knew about Daisy but hadn't spilled the beans.
Victoria felt a painful squeeze on her fingers and finally looked at him.
Alexander asked softly, "Why so quiet?"
"About what?"
Seeing her play dumb, Alexander decided to drop it, planning a long chat after dinner when they got back to their room.
After dinner, as they headed upstairs, Arabella voiced her worry in the living room, "That Daisy chick is trouble."
"Yeah, why not ring up Penelope?" Eloise suggested.
Arabella thought it over and, not wanting to wait, made the call right away.
Maximus and Brett usually stayed out of the women drama, leaving it to Eloise and Arabella.
Alexander led Victoria back to their room, shut the door, and hugged her from behind, whispering, "I've set up a Christmas trip abroad. We'll stay in a hotel this time, cool?"
"Why not stay home?" Victoria was surprised he planned it so fast, showing he was serious. But she was puzzled why not stay at her place.
"Do you really want everyone knowing you're back and crashing our time together?" Alexander chuckled.
As soon as she got home, her friends would know, especially Jason, who even had the guts to propose to her. He couldn't stand that guy.
Victoria felt a bit helpless but thought a hotel stay wasn't bad either.
Now that they had a place together, they could always be home, and the Christmas vibe in a hotel was nice and convenient, fitting their plans.
Alexander gently stroked her hair and said seriously, "We'll go quietly, not telling anyone except the folks at home, okay?"
Victoria felt warmth in her heart, "Okay."
Just the two of them, like after their island wedding?
Victoria felt a growing sweetness inside but kept her cool, wrapping her arms around his neck, "When do we leave?"
"A day early," Alexander said.
"Alright, let's chill these few days?"
"To chill what? My turtle?" Alexander teased, holding her. His words were indulgent but made her blush.
"Watch your mouth," she said.
Alexander laughed, "Why should I with my own wife?"
Eyeing her rosy lips, he quickly leaned down to kiss her. To avoid tiring her, he lifted her up and kissed her while carrying her.
Victoria, with her head down, felt more comfortable than looking up.
He carried her towards the bathroom, kissing her all the way.
In the bathroom, his sexy fingers unbuttoned her shirt, and he couldn't help but murmur, "Do you like wearing clothes with buttons?"
"Why?" Victoria asked, confused.
"Are you trying to train my hand speed?" Alexander's words were loaded, and his kisses got hotter and more intense.
Whatever her reasons, he was gonna handle it, no questions asked.
Honestly, she just had a habit.
But she figured she might rock a turtleneck tomorrow.
When he sucked on her neck, she knew there'd be marks.
A turtleneck looked more natural; if she wore a low neckline with a scarf, Olivia would always joke, "Is Mr. Harrington a vampire?"
He wasn't, but Alexander really loved to leave his mark on Victoria.
Back in bed, Victoria was already wiped out, lying limp in his arms.
Alexander then asked, "When did you know that Daisy was in the PR department?"
"Right away," Victoria mumbled weakly.
"What do you mean?" Alexander pressed.
"Janaye always keeps me in the loop about your stuff."
"Really?" Alexander suddenly frowned.
No wonder Janaye was always sneaking around.
"Don't hurt her," Victoria softly reminded him.
She worried he might think she had Janaye spying on him and would fire her, which would suck for Janaye.
"I can't fire her?" Alexander teased.
"Then you don't love me," Victoria couldn't tell from his serious face that he was joking, feeling only nervous.
She thought of a reason to keep Janaye from getting canned, which was what she just said.
Even though he often said he loved her, saying it herself was still kinda awkward.
But she felt she had to say it.
It seemed like the only way she could threaten him.
"So, to prove my love for you, she has to be my lifelong secretary? You do realize she's not as efficient as you, right?" Alexander, seeing Victoria take it seriously, held back his laughter and kept up the act.
Victoria didn't speak, just stared at him.
Alexander's serious look made her a bit scared.
If he fired Janaye, she'd be the one to blame.
Janaye was doing well, especially at the Harrington Group, where she could often see Shoure. If she got fired, she'd be heartbroken.
"Victoria," he suddenly called her in a deep voice.
Victoria snapped back, "What?"
"I won't fire her."
Victoria looked into his eyes and momentarily forgot to breathe.
He seemed to be saying something, something she was about to grasp but hadn't yet.
Alexander gently stroked her face and continued seriously, "Never."
Victoria's heart raced, and she saw more and more indulgent smiles in his eyes.
She leaned into his arms, hugging him, "Got it."
She saw a determined emotion in his eyes, knowing he wasn't lying.
Alexander kissed her gently. Although Janaye was a bit lacking, she had improved over time.
And although it seemed like Janaye was the only secretary, Shoure also shared some of the secretarial work to keep her there, so he wasn't losing out.
And keeping Janaye meant he loved her.
Alexander kissed her hair softly and whispered, "Victoria."
"What is it?" Victoria looked up at him, puzzled.
"Always remember this," Alexander said.
He wanted her to remember this always.
"What's that?" she asked, feeling he was so serious that she had to understand and remember his words.
Alexander looked at her with gentle eyes, "As long as she's my secretary, it means I love you."
