Chapter 13 Stubbornness
Alexander chuckled softly, "I just came from Victoria's."
Benjamin Beaumont, who was about to light a cigarette, was taken aback, not to mention the other three who were also startled.
"You're not... unsatisfied, so you want to vent on Miss Kensington?" William asked him.
"Don't think of me as you do. I just..."
Alexander thought of the photo and couldn't help taking a drag on his cigarette in annoyance.
"What are you just? Just say it!" Sebastian Montague was getting a bit impatient.
But Alexander was the type who was never in a hurry, always confident of winning.
"I asked you back then if you were moved, you said you weren't. Didn't you regret it as soon as you signed the divorce papers?" Benjamin, who had been silent, suddenly spoke.
"You all know that the Harrington family has a responsibility to her. I went to see her because I was afraid she might be deceived." Alexander explained naturally.
The atmosphere in the private room suddenly became a bit strange. William leaned in close to him, stroking his chin as his voice became very secretive, "Afraid she'll be deceived by whom? Could someone dare to abduct Mrs. Harrington?"
The image of that man hugging her from behind, the two of them looking very intimate, suddenly flashed in Alexander's mind.
"No one knows she's Mrs. Harrington, and besides, the divorce papers have been signed. She's no longer part of the Harrington family." Benjamin reminded.
Alexander's deep gaze immediately turned to Benjamin.
She was no longer Mrs. Harrington?
She would always be part of the Harrington family, even in death.
After all...
The other two also looked at Alexander's reaction, but Alexander just smiled and said, "She will always be part of the Harrington family."
"So, do you still want to be responsible for her in the future?" William immediately asked him again.
Alexander took a drag on his cigarette and didn't rush to answer him.
"But you have to be responsible for Isabella too. How can you be responsible for her as well?" Edward Sinclair asked.
"Why not give her a sum of money, enough for her to live several lifetimes and let her go wherever she falls in love? Why not let her live the life she wants to live freely? That's not bad, right?" Sebastian suggested.
Alexander took another deep drag on his cigarette upon hearing this.
"Seb's suggestion is good; it would also give Isabella some peace of mind, and no one would say that the Harrington family treats people badly." Benjamin added.
Alexander laughed at this, then asked, "What's going on with you guys?"
All four of them looked at him in unison. What could they do? They were just trying to help him get rid of that girl.
"You can't let that girl cling to you for a lifetime. I see that she doesn't even dare to look at you, so she must like you." Sebastian said again.
Alexander's heart was in turmoil.
She liked him?
He used to think so too.
But after they got married, he was abroad for two years, and she never called him. The few times she did, it was about work, when his first secretary was busy and it was her turn.
She said she was Victoria, and then she started reporting work.
When they first met...
Alexander looked down and started smoking in silence again.
"Alex, you don't like her too, do you?" Benjamin suddenly asked him seriously.
"How is that possible?"
He denied it calmly, but the annoyance in his eyebrows and eyes was obvious.
His phone rang. Seeing it was Isabella, he didn't rush to answer.
"Aren't you going to answer Isabella's call?"
Alexander still didn't speak. He simply got up and walked towards the window.
The neon lights outside filled the city, dazzling his eyes.
This night was destined to be gloomy, until a sudden downpour befell the city.
His car pulled into the Regal Retreat.
Regal Retreat was developed by the Harrington Company. He had taken a whole building for himself, with William and the others each having a suite. The empty ones were always left empty, anyway, he had no intention of giving that building to outsiders.
But when the lawyer was drafting the divorce papers, he asked him how the house should be divided.
Then he thought of this place.
He used to live on the top floor, and even Isabella had never been up there, but he transferred it to her.
——
The next morning.
Victoria heard the door and went to open it, then stood there stunned.
