Chapter 616 Are You Still Making It Up to Me

Feeling utterly disregarded, Isabella reached her breaking point as her last shred of dignity crumbled away. Unable to contain herself any longer, she couldn't help but shout at Victoria.

Victoria stopped, but after listening, she resolutely walked out with Olivia.

Frank stood at the door. After Victoria left, he glanced at Isabella before leaving.

Isabella's mood turned sour as she grew increasingly frustrated with Victoria's blatant disregard.

Did Victoria think she would end up with nothing?

Did Victoria think the Montgomery family's assets would be taken by a bastard?

Isabella now wished Arthur would also die in an accident. She needed to focus on dealing with Victoria.

——

At the Harrington Mansion.

After Frank dropped Victoria off at home in the evening, she curled up on the sofa alone, pondering, 'How can I persuade Alexander to let me go on a business trip?'

When Alexander returned home after socializing, it was already past 10 PM. As he heard the sound from the living room, his usually stern face unconsciously softened.

Victoria lay on the sofa, hugging a pillow and a remote control.

Alexander bent down, placing his hands on the sofa armrest, and softly asked, "Were you waiting for me?"

Victoria immediately looked up at him and smiled ingratiatingly, "Yes."

She was almost falling asleep waiting.

Alexander said, "I need to freshen up first. What about you?"

"Can you talk to me first?" Victoria heard he was going to freshen up, but she had waited so long and didn't want to wait any longer.

This wait was torturous.

Alexander approached, gently lifting her head and taking a seat where she had been lying. He cradled her head in his lap, tenderly stroking her hair as he asked, "What would you like to talk about?"

"I need to go on a business trip."

"Did you take on a new role?" Alexander asked her.

"No, it's something else," Victoria said, then sat up cross-legged in front of him, seriously explaining what she needed to do.

The large living room fell into a deathly silence.

After a while, Victoria poked his hand. "I'll come back as soon as I'm done."

Alexander looked at her, held her poking hand, and in a deep voice said, "But I don't want you to go."

"Please," she whispered.

Alexander sighed helplessly but still didn't want to agree.

He indeed thought making money was a man's job, and more importantly, he didn't want her to leave.

Sensing he would disagree, Victoria had no choice but to lean in, hook her arms around his neck, and kiss him. "Please, just agree, okay?"

As Alexander remained unresponsive, she persisted in kissing him. Eventually, Alexander lay back on the sofa, and she climbed on top of him, kissing him until he couldn't take it anymore and frustratedly held her head to stop her.

He always liked her being affectionate, but not this kind of affection.

Victoria seemed to have a complete plan for her life, and that plan didn't include loving him.

Since this morning, Alexander had been somewhat unhappy.

He realized that the reason she had allowed him to be intimate with her the previous night was merely to borrow money from him.

Ironically, he once thought he wouldn't mind as long as she stayed by his side.

However, now, Alexander minded it deeply. He didn't like her ingratiating behavior.

If Victoria had any thoughts about their future together, he wouldn't feel so bad.

"Say you love me," Alexander murmured.

Victoria was stunned, but soon she lowered her gaze and softly said, "Then I'll make it up to you in another way?"

She thought she knew his preferences well.

But before her hand could reach over, Alexander grabbed her arm and seriously asked, "Do you think that's what I like?"

"Don't you like it?" Victoria was puzzled.

He clearly liked it a lot last night.

Alexander said, "I want you to love me."

Victoria immediately panicked.

Love him? She lacked the courage.

She smiled but didn't dare look at him.

"Say you love me, and I'll let you go," Alexander seriously stated his condition again.

But Victoria couldn't bring herself to say it.

She thought that, at worst, she would sneak away tomorrow.

After all, he seemed quite busy lately.

"Don't think about running away. Frank is here," he reminded her.

Thinking of Frank, Victoria looked at Alexander, burrowing her head into his chest, mumbling, "Please, let me go on the business trip."

"No," he directly refused and pushed her away.

Victoria was pushed to the side, and he stood up, walking towards the stairs without hesitation.

Victoria, a bit annoyed, sat up, "Don't push it. I'm discussing this with you out of respect, okay?"

"You don't have to respect me." Alexander turned, looked at her, and then went upstairs.

Angry, Victoria got up and walked out. But she couldn't open the door.

Damn it, she should be able to open it with facial recognition, but...

What a crappy smart lock.

Soon, her phone rang in her dress pocket. She quickly took it out, saw it was Alexander, thought for two seconds, and answered, "What?"

Alexander said, "Forgot to tell you, I added another lock."

"What do you mean?" Victoria asked.

"To prevent someone from running away."

Victoria was too angry to speak, thinking, 'Why not just say it's to prevent me from running away? Who else can it be?'

"Yes, it's to prevent you." Alexander said and hung up, then elegantly walked upstairs.

Victoria was left speechless, unable to say a word for a long time.

She turned, looked inside, and after a few seconds, walked back in but stopped after a few steps.

She felt Alexander was really pushing it.

Since she couldn't leave, she wouldn't. Victoria was just angry for a moment.

She had no intention of leaving.

They were married and had been intimate, so why would she run?

But she still wanted to go on the business trip.

Thinking about how she only asked for an eight-figure sum, but he transferred a nine-figure sum, much higher than she asked for, she didn't dare to leave recklessly.

Otherwise, people might think she ran off with the money.

Recently, someone said she was infertile, and if she left now, people would say she was a fraud, which would be even worse.

Saying she was a fraud was better than saying she was infertile; at least her integrity wouldn't be questioned.

After freshening up, Alexander changed into comfortable pajamas and saw the empty bed, feeling a bit empty inside.

Yes, it hurt more than Victoria not saying "I love you."

He went out again, stopping on the stairs.

Victoria was watching a movie on the sofa, and his heart felt a bit more at ease.

Since the outcome was the same, he walked down.

Victoria had noticed Alexander coming down. When he reached her, she moved aside, and he sat next to her.

"Still want to make it up to me?" Alexander asked.

Both had their own thoughts, and after a few seconds, Victoria pouted, turned, and climbed onto his lap, holding his shoulders. "Of course."
