Chapter 20 Each Going Their Own Way
"Do you understand?" He asked.
Husband?
She was forced to lift her head, her eyes full of anger as she looked at him. His domineering and unquestionable demeanor overwhelmed her. It was as if he was the sky and whatever he said was the law. She cursed in her heart, what a despicable man.
But she didn't know that to him, she looked like a provoked little wild cat. She had her claws out, but she dared not land them on him.
Alexander suddenly placed one hand against the wall, then lowered himself to her eye level. Their breaths quickly entwined ambiguously, and his deep voice rang out, "Are you angry?"
She turned her face away, too angry to provoke him further.
Alexander's agile gaze was fixed on her, and he suddenly started laughing. Her face turned red with anger, and she finally blurted out, "You're not my husband anymore."
"Do you want to call the lawyer now and ask if I still am or not?"
She had no confidence.
He was in control, and whatever outcome he wanted seemed to be just a word away. And her?
In the two days since he returned, they had spoken more than in the two years prior. But...
Well, it would be better not to speak.
He spoke again, "Behave and do your job here. I promise no one will dare to bully you or speak ill of you. And, whatever you want, I can give it to you."
"I just want freedom."
She asserted firmly.
"Victoria, you are free here."
Alexander's domineering and unquestionable deep voice rang out.
He knew she wanted to leave, but he couldn't let her.
As for the reason...
Alexander looked at her for a long time, finally lowering his gaze and inadvertently looking at a place he shouldn't as his thoughts began to drift.
Victoria had no idea what he was looking at, and he quickly turned around casually. He went back to the position he was just standing in, his back to her as he simply said, "Go do your work."
"I won't."
She was still stubborn.
Upon hearing this, Alexander turned around, his gaze meeting hers, his voice deep and powerful, "Victoria, don't force me to embarrass you here."
He was threatening her again.
She couldn't help but ask curiously, "I wonder how you plan to embarrass me, Mr. Harrington?"
Alexander laughed. She was so stubborn; she really was like a provoked little wild cat.
His slender, sexy fingers let go of the rebellious file, then he turned around again and walked towards her.
Victoria's heart tightened, and the next second, she opened the door and ran out.
"I'll go in myself... Miss Kensington."
"Miss Montgomery."
Victoria stopped in her tracks.
The woman who suddenly appeared at the door also froze.
Victoria's heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively turned to look at Alexander.
Alexander's expression was not as dangerous as it just was. He simply said, "You go ahead."
"Yes."
"Alexander, I came to congratulate you on your first day back at work."
Victoria lowered her head and left, and Isabella quickly walked in.
"Why are we being so formal with each other?"
He was so gentlemanly and courteous again.
Victoria closed the door for them, but her heart was sour.
He was different with that woman; he was gentle and considerate.
Of course... They had grown up together since they were children, so how could she, an unexpected burden, compete?
Victoria walked forward, and suddenly, the door behind her opened again, a familiar female voice rang out, "Miss Kensington, could you please bring me some drinks, thank you, oh, and make sure it's pregnancy-friendly."
