Chapter 669 Beaten to Vomiting Blood
"I've got everything set up. The whole Harrington clan is under our thumb. If you don't believe me, go ahead and check. Arabella's at the salon, Maximus is kicking a ball around with his buddies, and Brett's chilling at home, safest place for him right now."
"Alright, I won't do anything stupid. I'll follow your lead."
"From now on, kill your phone. Only turn it back on when you hit the mountain."
The line went dead.
Victoria thought about Alexander's car parked at the airport and made a beeline for it.
Yeah, she'd figure out a way to stay under the radar.
Her phone buzzed. It was a voice message from Alexander.
"Don't do anything. Wait for me to come back."
His deep voice felt like it was coming from another world.
Victoria's eyes welled up, but she got into his car and shut the door with determination.
The phone rang again, same number. She picked up, "Hello?"
"Why's your phone still on? You wanna see your in-laws or Eloise dead?"
Victoria didn't say a word, just hung up and turned off her phone.
She hit the gas, realizing she was being tailed. She floored it.
She had no clue what was next, but she knew she couldn't let sweet Eloise die because of her. She couldn't be the Harrington family's downfall.
She gripped the wheel tight and headed to the spot the caller mentioned.
When she got to the mountain, it felt like a cold slap in the face.
It was Christmas, but they wouldn't be spending it together, would they?
The image of Alexander holding her by the window last night kept flashing in her mind, and tears streamed down her face.
But she quickly wiped them away.
She'd bring Eloise back alive.
She'd left as many clues as she could for Frank and was driving Alexander's flashy car. She hoped they'd find her.
She wasn't dumb enough to think she could do this solo.
She turned her phone back on, and a call came in right away, but from a different number.
Victoria knew the previous number had been ditched.
It'd take Frank and the others longer to track her, but what choice did she have?
The voice said, "Leave the car, turn off your phone, and ditch it. Walk forward; someone will meet you."
The voice added, "No funny business unless you wanna see her corpse when you get there."
It was afternoon, just before dark.
Victoria got out of the car, tossed her phone by the roadside, and started walking.
She felt a wave of uncertainty about the future, and her heart sank like the setting sun.
Their target was her. As long as she went, Eloise should be safe.
After all, Eloise wasn't someone regular folks messed with.
They just wanted her. No, it couldn't be "they." It was Isabella.
Victoria was sure of it.
Isabella had sworn she'd make her life hell and beg for mercy.
A gust of wind blew, lifting Victoria's long hair.
As she adjusted her hair and looked up, a white flake drifted by...
It was snowing on this crazy holiday.
Before nightfall, the snow had already started.
She looked up, her tear-filled eyes watching the snow, and couldn't help but murmur, "Alexander, it's snowing. Do you see it?"
They had planned to watch the snow together tonight. Alexander had checked the weather forecast, which predicted a 100% chance of snow.
But she didn't have the luck to watch the snow with him.
He was on a plane now. He would definitely get a ticket back as soon as he saw her message.
He always had a way to be one step ahead, as long as he wanted to.
But Victoria felt no sense of security. She gently stroked her lower abdomen and then started walking up the mountain.
Behind the old church, there was a dilapidated two-story courtyard.
It had been neglected for so long that it looked like it could collapse at any moment.
Soon, a 5-foot-tall man appeared before her, wearing a mask and staring at her.
She felt like a lamb walking into the slaughterhouse.
As Victoria approached, the man raised his hand and struck the back of her head.
The pain in her neck made her vision go black. She quickly fell to the side and passed out on the ground.
The man easily picked her up and carried her into the courtyard that had been abandoned for decades.
When she woke up, she heard a familiar voice. It was crying.
She struggled to open her eyes and found herself lying on a concrete floor. Not far away, Eloise was tied to a chair, her eyes swollen from crying. "Victoria." Eloise forced out a sound when she saw Victoria wake up.
"Grandma." Victoria was also weak, but she tried to smile to reassure Eloise.
"Don't worry about me. I'm an old woman who's almost dead anyway, Victoria." Eloise just wanted to quickly convey her feelings to Victoria, to let her know that her life wasn't worth much.
Victoria smiled, slowly and painfully, trying to get up.
She knelt on the ground, unable to move from the pain, but looking at Eloise made her feel at ease.
"Grandma, I've always wanted to tell you, that was just an accident." Victoria didn't know if they would make it out alive, but she didn't want to leave with regrets.
Eloise knew what she was talking about and couldn't help but cry even more.
Victoria also shed tears but tried to smile. "My parents wanted to come back and visit. They always said this was their homeland."
"No, stop talking." Eloise couldn't bear to listen and looked behind Victoria, growing more anxious.
Victoria knew that Isabella must be behind her, but she didn't care. She continued talking to Eloise, "I know you've always felt it was your fault, but it really wasn't, Grandma. My parents respected you a lot, and so do I. I'm glad to be your granddaughter-in-law. Please let it go, I beg you."
"Stop, don't say anymore. It's all my fault." Eloise suddenly felt deep regret.
If she hadn't forced Victoria to marry her grandson, maybe things wouldn't have turned out this way.
Especially when Victoria tried to stand up and was hit hard in the waist with a stick.
The blow was so painful that she immediately fell to her knees again. And then another blow landed on her back.
She had no chance to fight back, not even to turn around. Something hot and burning suddenly surged in her chest.
She tasted the metallic tang in her throat and couldn't help but spit out a mouthful of blood.
"Isabella, you bitch." Eloise's face turned pale as she screamed hysterically.
