Chapter 818 Sprinting
Victoria glanced at Alexander, turned around, pushed the door open, and entered the room, closing the door behind her.
Alexander stood there, feeling both aggrieved and frustrated.
But when he looked up, he saw the tightly closed door.
He could just burst in, but he seemed to have scared her that morning. If he barged in now, would she think he was going to do something bad to her?
Would she see him as a persistent pest?
But he didn't want to occupy a cold bed alone; after all, he wasn't a man without a wife.
They weren't going to get divorced. Didn't she understand his stance?
Why did they have to sleep separately?
Victoria needed him; he was so warm, bringing comfort to her bed.
Arabella stood at her room's door, seeing Alexander shut out, and couldn't help but walk over with a smile, whispering, "Do you need me to find another excuse for you?"
"No need."
He realized Arabella was mocking him and turned to go to the guest room next door.
Arabella shook her head helplessly and knocked on the door, "Victoria, are you asleep?"
"Come in."
Victoria heard what sounded like Arabella and said so, then put back on the clothes she was about to take off.
"I just saw Alexander standing at the door in a daze, so I came to say goodnight. Call me if you need anything."
"Okay, goodnight, Mom."
Victoria nodded.
Arabella closed the door for her and helplessly returned to her room.
She thought, 'The young couple would reconcile, right? When Alexander first came back, Isabella lied to everyone, saying she was pregnant with Alexander's child, such a serious matter. Later, Alexander still held a wedding with Victoria. As long as Victoria's heart healed, she and Alexander would eventually find their way back to each other.'
Club.
When Alexander arrived, Benjamin and William had already had a few drinks.
William become single again, feeling bored at the moment.
Nevertheless, Benjamin's situation was considerably less promising. It was said that the Hughes family was having Tessa look for her future fiancé again.
Alexander walked over and sat down. William immediately poured him a drink, "Victoria still won't let you in the room?"
Alexander immediately frowned at William.
"You know how to say things Alexander doesn't want to hear!"Benjamin chuckled and said to him.
"I'm just telling the truth. I think Victoria is a good person, just a bit stubborn."William added.
Alexander just frowned tightly but didn't speak.
William poured Alexander a drink, and Alexander took a sip, but before the glass left his lips, he quickly downed the whole drink.
Just a taste wasn't enough.
Alexander even thought he might be practically marinating in alcohol.
After all, Victoria didn't care about him.
"Alexander, why don't you play the pity card?"
William suggested.
Play the pity card?
Alexander suddenly remembered that someone had once advised him to apologize, and it seemed to be William, too.
If Victoria were that soft-hearted, would she let him sleep in the guest room?
That cold bed, he couldn't warm it up all night.
Alexander, frustrated, leaned over to pour himself another drink. Benjamin saw him drinking and followed suit, feeling troubled as well.
William watched the two of them drinking to drown their sorrows and couldn't help but pick up his glass, but then he thought, "Wait, I have no troubles. I'm a happy single man; I don't need to drink."
Benjamin squinted at him, "Then get out."
William immediately grinned, "I have a way to help you ask Tessa out."
"Then hurry up and say it," Benjamin said irritably.
"Your attitude is really bad. But you just need to find the guy Tessa temporarily agreed to date. That guy is afraid of you; let him help cover for you."William said.
Benjamin's expression relaxed a bit after hearing that.
Alexander's phone rang. He glanced at it.
William caught a glimpse and immediately got excited for Alexander, "Victoria is asking you to go home."
Alexander gave him a speechless look, sighed helplessly, leaned back on the sofa, and slowly said, "It's my mom."
Would Victoria ask him to come home early?
If she did, he would rush back immediately.
Arabella knew he was out drinking, probably afraid Victoria would be upset if she found out, so she called him.
But it would be better if Victoria got upset.
Why should he be the only one unhappy?
At this moment, a staff member quickly ran in and said, "Gentlemen, it's raining outside and getting chilly. Would you like to stay the night?"
"I'll stay."
William immediately raised his hand.
The staff member nodded and then looked at the other two. Benjamin thought for a moment, "I'll leave soon."
Alexander turned to look at Benjamin, puzzled by his sudden urgency.
"Play the pity card."
Benjamin said, immediately got up, grabbed his coat, and told the staff, "Call the driver."
"Got it, Mr. Beaumont."
She nodded and went to make arrangements.
At the door, Benjamin turned back, "You should go back early, too."
Alexander didn't say anything; just felt that Benjamin's enthusiasm was surprising.
Benjamin had always given a very steady impression, but he lost his usual maturity and rationality when it came to Tessa.
After Benjamin left, William stayed to drink with Alexander.
Alexander looked at William and suddenly realized that they used to drink with a group of people, but now it was just William with him.
Everyone else had families and was happier than he was.
Alexander thought about how others were sleeping soundly with their wives in their arms while he was so miserable, so he took another big gulp of his drink.
Benjamin's car arrived outside the Hughes family home. He texted Tessa, [I'm at your door.]
Tessa immediately jumped out of bed when she saw the message. She was wearing a round-neck nightgown and, seeing the car outside, quickly replied, [Wait a moment.]
Benjamin read the reply and waited patiently in the car.
Tessa quietly left her room, listening for any noise outside before heading out.
But seeing the light still on in her parents' room, she got nervous and didn't dare rush out.
Jasmine Hughes whispered in the room, "It seems Benjamin is here."
"He still hasn't given up."Brendan Hughes said, almost falling asleep.
"I'll go tell her to go to bed," Jasmine said.
Tessa, wearing slippers, quickly ran downstairs.
"Tessa?"
Jasmine didn't expect Tessa to run out in the blink of an eye.
"Hurry, drive."
Tessa shouted before she even reached the car.
Benjamin heard her anxious voice, turned around, and saw her running out in her nightgown and slippers. He immediately opened the car door for her.
Tessa practically threw herself into his arms. The car door closed, and she clung to his shoulders, lying in his arms, her heartbeat mixing with his. She nervously murmured, "I freaked out! I almost got caught by my mom."
