Chapter 123 A Glimpse of Yearning
"Hurry up," Alexander urged, releasing her chin. His hands found their way to her legs, hoisting her up with an air of urgency. "Settle in."
Victoria was left speechless, her mind a whirlwind of confusion. Alexander, however, didn't pause, carrying her inside before following suit. He pulled the blanket over their legs, a soft command escaping his lips, "Come closer."
As he spoke, he gently guided her head to rest against his chest. Victoria found herself leaning awkwardly against him, her cheeks aflame with a sudden rush of heat.
His heart pounded against her ear, each thump echoing with a force that was almost frightening. She had never been this close to him, never felt a heartbeat so strong and insistent.
The door creaked open, revealing the nanny. She stood frozen in the doorway, her expression taut with tension.
"Oh my, you're off to bed early today. I'll make sure to deliver this earlier tomorrow," she said, extending a glass of milk towards them.
Alexander accepted it with a nod, "No need to worry, we weren't asleep."
His hand remained nestled at the back of Victoria's head, fingers gently combing through her hair.
"If you two lovebirds continue like this, I won't have any worries at all. I'll leave you be and come back to tidy up in the morning," the nanny said, a pleased smile on her face as she retreated, leaving them alone once more.
As soon as the door clicked shut, Victoria exhaled the breath she'd been holding. She attempted to rise, but Alexander's hold on her remained firm. All she could do was lift her gaze to his, questioning his intentions.
When Alexander looked down, he found himself lost in her tender gaze. How could he possibly let go? It felt as if they had known each other forever, yet they had spent so little time together over the years.
"Care for some milk?" Alexander's voice was a deep rumble, tinged with a huskiness that sent shivers down her spine.
Victoria stared at him, still dazed. Alexander brought the cup of milk closer to her, his gaze never leaving hers.
Regaining her composure, Victoria awkwardly reached for the warm cup. It was a pleasant offering, but she was already feeling too warm to fully enjoy the hot drink.
Alexander hadn't released her yet. He simply watched, waiting to see if she would drink, before guiding the cup to her lips. "Open up."
Feeling a wave of embarrassment, Victoria decided the quicker she drank, the sooner this would be over. After a few sips, she felt satiated.
Looking up at him, she noticed his intense gaze. Curiosity piqued, she asked, "Would you like some?"
"Is it not to your liking?"
"No, not at all."
"Hmm?"
"I just thought you seemed eager to have some," Victoria mumbled, her voice barely above a whisper.
Alexander chuckled at her comment, swiftly taking the cup from her hands. He placed it on the nightstand before moving closer.
Before Victoria could comprehend what was happening, she found herself enveloped in his arms under the blankets. His voice was a husky whisper against her ear, "Victoria, it's not the milk I'm craving... it's you."
His gaze was filled with a desire that took her breath away. Before he could finish his sentence, his lips claimed hers.
Victoria felt as if she had been transported to another world. His kiss was tender, as if he was cherishing her. Her mind went blank, to the point where she even forgot his past indiscretions.
She found herself clutching at his pajamas, yearning to pull him closer, but then...
The shrill ring of his cellphone cut through the silence, jolting Victoria back to reality. She pushed him away immediately.
Alexander frowned at the interruption.
The phone lay on the sofa, its ringtone echoing through the room. He glanced at it, then back at Victoria. Her face was a mix of panic, hurt, and anger, making it difficult for him to leave her side.
"Go answer the phone."
"Alright."
Reluctantly, he tore his gaze away from her and rose to answer the persistent call.
As he moved away, Victoria sat up, her eyes following his figure. She glanced at the door, then swiftly got out of bed and scurried toward it.
