Chapter 721 Do You Really Want Me to Die with Unfinished Business?
"You weren't drunk."
"Really? If I wasn't drunk, why did you sleep in this bedroom last night?"
Victoria's confident look at Alexander started to waver.
If he wasn't drunk, why would she have slept here?
Something felt off.
Victoria stared at him, wanting to say more, the answer already forming in her mind, ready to spill out.
He added, "I only get soft-hearted when I'm drunk."
Victoria's gaze grew more desolate, and the answer that was about to burst out was quickly swallowed by his words.
Alexander could still be soft-hearted, but only when he was drunk.
Should she be grateful that he got drunk last night, laid an electric blanket for her, and brought Strawberry to her?
Victoria's lips moved, wanting to say thanks, but in the end, she couldn't.
Saying it would sound fake; she just wanted her daughter back.
She glanced at Strawberry, still sleeping on the bed, and spoke again, softly but firmly, "Alexander, you might not know Strawberry is a treasure I risked my life for. I'd give anything to spend time with her."
If they were to fight, it would be like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
But she would find a way.
She would cut out her own womb, and if he went back on his word, she could use public opinion.
Of course, at that time, the Harrington Family would be criticized by everyone.
No one wanted that, but she would do it.
He probably didn't know she was actually a master of controlling public opinion. Since she pulled herself together half a year ago, she had been in contact with Olivia, and many of the jobs VicLiv received were done by her.
Victoria just didn't like to fight; she wouldn't use an extra word if one could express her emotions. She preferred to type it out.
"Let me say this one last time, if you walk out today, I'll make sure you never see Strawberry again."
Victoria didn't say a word, turned around, and walked out.
She had enough of Alexander's threats.
She had to move forward; they couldn't stay stuck in this quagmire.
But as soon as she opened the door, Arabella was standing outside, rubbing her hands, saying, "Victoria, you're awake. I was just about to ask you to come down for some vegetable soup."
"Mom." The word took her two tries to get out.
"Come on, your grandmother is waiting for you too."
Arabella saw that she was dressed neatly, knowing she was about to go out, quickly stepped forward, grabbed her wrist, and led her downstairs.
"Mom, I need to go out."
"It snowed all night last night; you can't go out even if you want to. Why not come with us to have some soup that's good for us women? It's been a long time since the three of us had a chat."
Arabella didn't give Victoria a chance to leave, pulling her quickly downstairs.
As soon as she entered the living room, she smelled a warm aroma, probably from tomatoes or something.
But why were they drinking this so early in the morning?
Victoria didn't understand; she had lived here for two years, and the elders never got up this early to drink this.
"The snow outside is too thick, I woke up early from the cold, and it just so happened that your grandmother was up too. I thought it would be nice if you were up too, so I went to call you, and it turned out you were really up."
Arabella said, pulling her to sit down.
Eloise saw Victoria dressed so neatly, as if she was going out, a flash of worry crossed her eyes, but she quickly smiled and said to her, "Victoria, is your back pain better?"
Victoria responded kindly, "Much better, Grandma, don't worry."
"How can I not worry? You haven't been home for a year, but I dream of you being bullied by those bastards every night. Victoria, come, sit by my side."Eloise reached out for Victoria.
Victoria had no choice but to sit over and said with a beaming smile, "Grandma, don't worry about me."
"How can I not worry? Last night, Alex suddenly called home and asked someone to find an electric blanket to put on your bed. I knew then, it must be that the injury you suffered that time hasn't healed yet. Victoria, tell me, how have you been this past year? You were injured so badly and pregnant; it must have been very painful."
Eloise looked at Victoria with tears in her eyes, genuinely worried about her.
Victoria felt her own eyes moisten as she listened, and after a moment of silence, she gently spoke, "Grandma, I just hope I won't be separated from Strawberry."
Right, she had her intentions.
If Eloise and Arabella could give her Strawberry out of pity, that would be the best outcome.
She didn't really want to escalate things with Alexander to that extent.
She just wanted Strawberry.
"Victoria, who would make you separate from Strawberry? From now on, none of us will be separated."
Eloise said slowly, holding her hand.
Victoria's heart skipped a beat when she heard that no one would be separated, and it took her several seconds to calmly explain, "Grandma, Alexander and I are already divorced."
Arabella said in a questioning tone, "Where's your Divorce Decree? Show it to me."
"It should be with Alexander." Victoria felt an inexplicable unease. She had never seen the Divorce Decree. But she was sure she and Alexander were divorced.
"Then you should get it from Alexander later and show it to me, otherwise I won't believe you're divorced," Arabella said stubbornly.
Victoria felt a headache coming on. They didn't believe she and Alexander were divorced?
It wasn't a big deal that Alexander hadn't shown the Divorce Decree to the elders after the divorce, but looking at Eloise and Arabella now, she felt something was off.
"Victoria, no matter what, this is your home. We are all your family," Eloise said affectionately, holding Victoria's hand.
"And as far as I know, the reason Alexander shielded Isabella from the knife was because he was afraid you would really kill Isabella. Victoria, killing someone would result in a prison sentence." Before Victoria could say anything, Arabella continued.
"But we are already divorced." Victoria murmured, standing up again. She needed to go out; she felt something was very wrong.
This morning, Arabella and Eloise were too suspicious. It was as if they had gotten up early just to wait for her.
But as soon as Victoria stood up, Arabella also stood up, putting her arm around her shoulders, saying, "Sit down first; let's have a good talk."
"I should call you Mrs. Arabella Harrington now. Alexander and I are really impossible, I..."
"Sit down first." Arabella pressed Victoria down onto the sofa, holding her hand and sighing, "I've already checked; you didn't marry Adrian. I don't know if this ring on your hand was given to you by a foreign friend or if you bought it yourself as a cover, but Victoria, I want to say, nowhere will be better for you than here."
"I can't..." Stay here.
"You can't be alone abroad anymore. I asked your doctor abroad that your injury hasn't healed well, which is why it flares up often. But it doesn't mean it can't be cured. If you stay here, I guarantee that in a year, you'll be a healthy Victoria again," Arabella said seriously.
Arabella had a natural authority that could be oppressive.
But Victoria didn't react to this oppressive feeling out of respect for her elders. If Alexander had said such things, she would have immediately retorted.
"Mrs. Arabella Harrington, I appreciate your concern, but I really can't stay any longer, and besides..."
"Victoria, do you want me to beg you humbly? Do you really want me to die with regrets?" Eloise suddenly spoke.
