Chapter 135 I'm Your Husband

In the aftermath of the morning's contract signing, Victoria busied herself pouring drinks for the attendees. A client, upon catching sight of Victoria, couldn't help but comment with an appreciative smile, "A woman as radiant and sharp as Victoria must be a challenge to pursue, isn't she?"

Alexander's countenance momentarily hardened at the remark, but he swiftly regained his composure. He cast a sidelong glance at Victoria, his lips curling into a thoughtful smile as he responded, "I wouldn't know."

The client, intrigued, pressed further, "Does Victoria have a significant other?"

Victoria's response was a simple, yet cheerful, "No."

"Then perhaps I stand a chance. Let's extend an invitation to Victoria for dinner tonight," the client proposed to Alexander.

After a moment's consideration, Alexander conceded, "Agreed."

A toast was raised, and Victoria, clutching the newly signed contract, stepped aside.

"Until tonight, Victoria," the client bid her farewell before departing.

Victoria merely nodded in acknowledgment, offering no further words. It was not uncommon for a secretary to accompany her employer to social gatherings.

Alexander, still reclining leisurely, redirected his gaze from the now vacant doorway to Victoria's face. A predicament was brewing. His unassuming secretary had undoubtedly captured many admiring glances. If he didn't make his intentions known soon, would these nuisances jeopardize his plans?

Victoria, oblivious to his internal turmoil, merely tidied up the room and made her exit.

As her workday drew to a close, Victoria's phone vibrated with an incoming call from Isabella.

"Vicky, I'm waiting downstairs at your office building. How about dinner after you finish work?"

"I'm sorry, I—." Victoria's response was cut short by another incoming call. Frustrated, she abruptly ended both conversations.

Isabella, taken aback by the sudden disconnection, was left in a state of confusion. Alexander, meanwhile, was intrigued by Victoria's late-hour conversation. A glance at his wristwatch, and his eyes sparked with determination. He promptly rose from his seat.

Victoria was gathering her belongings to leave when Alexander appeared, "Come with me."

She shot him a puzzled look, but he was already striding towards the elevator.

Jasmine whispered softly, "Vicky, the boss wants you to accompany him."

Victoria returned a helpless glance, silently questioning, 'Do I look like I want to go with him?'

Furthermore, Isabella was waiting just downstairs. If Victoria were to leave now, she would undoubtedly walk into a war zone.

Whenever Isabella was in Alexander's presence, she exuded an air of intimacy, as though she felt the need to constantly flaunt their close relationship.

'I'm already aware of their relationship; why the constant display?' Victoria mused.

"Victoria, do I need to extend a formal invitation?" Alexander's voice echoed from across the room, near the elevator.

Reluctantly, Victoria made her way over. She was not fond of being paraded around like a trophy. Alexander's casual attitude towards such matters was slightly off-putting to her.

"Who was on the phone just now?"

Once she was within reach, Alexander's irritation seemed to dissipate, replaced by patient curiosity.

Victoria remained silent, her gaze lowered, and stepped into the elevator as soon as the doors parted.

Alexander followed her in, his brow furrowed in confusion, "Adrian?"

"No."

She sensed that the brothers were not on good terms, so it was best not to mention Adrian.

"Hmph, then who was it? I almost forgot how popular you are around here."

His tone was tinged with a hint of jealousy.

Victoria was at a loss for words. She looked at him, puzzled.

Why did he seem as passive-aggressive as Isabella? The two of them would make a perfect match—a pair of passive-aggressive personalities.

"Hand over your phone." Alexander demanded.

Victoria was taken aback. What could he possibly want with her phone?

"You're refusing to give it to me?"

Alexander closed the gap between them with a few long strides.

Victoria's heart pounded in her chest, and she hastily stepped back, "Mr. Harrington, please, maintain a respectable distance."

"The man standing before you is not your employer, but your husband."

Before she could process his words, he was towering over her.

She found herself backed against the cool metal of the stairwell railing, his arms on either side of her, as he loomed over her with an imposing presence.

Victoria's breath hitched, and she foolishly tilted her chin to evade his lips.

Alexander let out a smirk, "Blushing again, are we?"
