Chapter 27 Degeneration
As Alexander spoke, he had already pulled her to his car, opened the back door, and shoved her in.The whole sequence of events happened so abruptly that Victoria could only blink in surprise; she couldn’t fully comprehend what was transpiring. She did eat street food.Soon Alexander got in the car and drove off.The car was silent all the way, one might even say it was deathly quiet. She felt a bit cold and uncomfortable. The smell of Isabella's perfume filled the entire car. It was a scent that Victoria found too strong, too heady. She quickly turned her gaze to the window, her eyes focusing on the passing scenery to distract herself from the uncomfortable sensation.Isabella also felt a bit uncomfortable. She cast furtive glances at Alexander, her eyebrows furrowing slightly. It wasn't until they were nearing the restaurant that she finally broke the silence, her voice hesitant, "Are we going to take Miss Kensington to the hotel too?"
"Yes."Alexander replied indifferently."Well, she's going to be with the Harrington family for a long time anyway; she needs to get acquainted with friends. But your friends seem a bit exclusive."Isabella reminded him thoughtfully. Their group of friends had always been exclusive."She's part of the Harrington family."Upon hearing this, Isabella looked at him in displeasure. To Isabella, his words were like admitting that Victoria was his wife.Isabella touched her small belly, lowered her head, and said softly, "Yes, we'll be good to her in the future, for what the Harrington family owes her. And the baby will consider her a real aunt too."Alexander glanced at her, but before he could see her expression, he went back to driving.Victoria was being discussed as if she were non-existent, even though she was right there in the backseat."Don't be nervous when you meet William and the others later; you all met last time after all.""Okay."Victoria responded. She didn't want to argue with a pregnant woman; she just wanted to get out of this car as soon as possible. When they arrived at the Harrington Hotel, everyone was indeed surprised.
Isabella naturally walked in, arm in arm with Alexander, with Victoria trailing behind."What's going on?" Edward asked first, puzzled."She doesn't have any other friends here, so it'll be like this from now on." Alexander said as he sat down.Everyone understood what Alexander meant.Victoria officially joined their small group."Miss Kensington is five years younger than us, so you all better be nice to her, or I won't let you off." Isabella sat next to Alexander and spoke like a caring older sister.
"Since you both have said so, we will definitely take good care of her. Vicky, please sit down. Tonight, we ought to have a good drink," William promptly stood up and went to the door to guide her in, casually draping his arm around her shoulders.
Victoria felt somewhat uncomfortable and smiled, "Actually, I can't hold my liquor very well." She explained, awkwardly yet politely, and tried to wriggle out of his embrace.
But William, always the enthusiastic one, kept his arm around her and continued forward, "Oh, it's our first time drinking together, but you don’t need to feel so awkward. This..."
"Take your hand off her shoulder." A sudden cold voice interrupted William.
Benjamin had noticed Alexander's displeasure early on, and now he hinted with his eyes for William to let go quickly.
"What's wrong with draping an arm over her shoulder? Since Victoria has joined us; she is now our fri..." William didn't finish his sentence when a sharp look from Alexander silenced him, and he obediently removed his hand.
William was actually trying to gauge Alexander's attitude towards Victoria just now. Having done so, he simply helped Victoria pull out her chair, and then returned to his own seat.
