Chapter 112 His Teasing
A chuckle slipped from Alexander's lips, the humor of the situation not lost on him. He was already dressed in a fresh robe, his feet snug in new slippers, and was making his way toward the comfort of his bed when his phone rang. "Hello?" he answered the call.
"Where are you? I'm feeling a bit of a craving for something sour, and the nanny's not around," came the gentle voice of Isabella.
The underlying message was clear to him. The Harrington family was eager for a grandchild to continue their lineage. If Isabella were to bear a child, their joy would likely overshadow any objections the family held towards their relationship.
"Order some takeout," Alexander suggested nonchalantly.
"Takeout? It's not healthy for a pregnant woman."
"I'm out and about."
"Out? You're not coming home tonight? Aren’t you worried that grandma will be anxious?" Isabella's voice held a careful, probing tone.
Alexander's laughter was light as he replied, "I'm with Victoria."
He declared his company in the quiet of the night, leaving Isabella to fall silent before she murmured a soft, "Oh."
Victoria emerged from the bathroom just in time to hear his declaration. "Better get some sleep. Goodnight," he said, ending the call at her appearance.
Victoria sat at the edge of the bed. “Just go about your business, don’t mind me.”
She found a secret thrill in sleeping alone and wished he would leave soon. But Alexander approached her, a mischievous glint in his eyes and a smile playing on his lips.
He sat at the foot of the bed, his fingers sensually pinching her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. "I'm not going anywhere."”…
Victoria was rendered speechless. Not going anywhere?“
"Was that Miss Montgomery on the phone?" she ventured, guessing from his tone.“
"Yes, but it doesn't seem right to visit another woman this late, does it?" he teased, his fingers gently caressing her skin, his thumb 'accidentally' brushing her lips.
A buzz filled Victoria's ears as the tension in the room escalated. The atmosphere became charged, and Alexander's expression turned serious. He still liked her, still yearned for her. It was an intuition he had felt from the moment he first laid eyes on her.
He remembered as a child, his mother had joked about setting him up with Victoria to be his wife; it annoyed him to no end then, but now...
"I'm tired."
His reminiscing was abruptly interrupted when Victoria scooted back, lifted her legs onto the bed, and retreated to a safe distance. Alexander was left standing there, watching her with a protective gaze. Her resilience amused him, and he couldn't help but smile.
Victoria, however, found his behavior perplexing. They had agreed to divorce, so why was he still making such adoring gestures as to caress her lips?
"Goodnight," she said, pulling the covers over herself and quickly wrapping herself tightly in the blankets.
"Hey, there's a cockroach."
"What?" Victoria was taken aback by Alexander’s serious tone as he looked behind her. Startled, she quickly got up. "Where, where?"
A cockroach? In a seven-star hotel?
"It's right behind you."
"What?" Victoria turned around, saw nothing, yet instinctively ran. But the bed was too soft, and as she reached the plush edge, she began to slip off.
Alexander caught her swiftly, holding her securely in his arms, his deep eyes locked onto hers. "So, you’re afraid of cockroaches?"
Victoria was left speechless. What did he mean by that? Were there any girls who weren't scared of cockroaches? She hurriedly looked back at the bed, her voice shaking with tension, "Where is it, where is it?"
