Chapter 160 Don't Blame Alexander

Victoria swiveled around, her gaze landing on him. Her neck ached slightly, a discomfort mirrored by the dull throb in her heart. Isabella had only just ascended the staircase; how could he have descended so quickly?

"Mr. Harrington," Jasmine interjected abruptly. "Miss Montgomery mentioned that you requested her company. Vicky is genuinely heartbroken." Victoria turned her attention back to Jasmine, who wore a teasing expression. Swiftly, Jasmine collected her bag, "Given Mr. Harrington's presence, I suppose I can take my leave."

"Wait, Jasmine," Victoria began, her eyes tracking Jasmine's hasty retreat. She was on the verge of pursuing her when she felt a pair of warm, robust hands clasp her shoulder.

Alexander leaned in, his voice a low murmur, "You haven't completed your thoughts on our relationship."

Who could be so persistent in their questioning?

"Alex," Isabella Montgomery's voice echoed from the upper level. Alexander, his hand still on Victoria's shoulder, didn't release his hold. Victoria attempted to rise, but his grip was unyielding.

Descending the staircase, Isabella proposed, "Why don't we invite Vicky to join us upstairs?" Alexander paid her no mind, his gaze scanning the crowd instead.

"Sebastian," Alexander called out, his voice laced with a cool detachment. Sebastian, who had just arrived, suspected his summons was related to Isabella. With his name now called, he had no choice but to approach, "Bro."

"Take her away," Alexander commanded, his tone icy and succinct.

"Yes," Sebastian responded, his head bowed, a hint of submission in his voice.

"What are you? Do you think you're in my league? I'm Miss Harrington, for heaven's sake. What are you? Get lost." Isabella's words were a shocking first, leaving Sebastian speechless.

The crowd continued to relish the spectacle, all except Benjamin Beaumont and Edward, who wore expressions of mild disappointment. They had all grown up together, with Isabella always embodying the epitome of decorum—a young lady who never treated others with such disdain.

Isabella advanced, clutching Alexander's arm, "Alex, I know I'm not perfect, but I'll try harder. Please, for the baby's sake."

"Enough about the baby," Alexander retorted, clearly irritated.

"Come with me," Sebastian interjected, stepping forward to cradle her in his arms.

"No, let go of me, Sebastian, let go—ah, ah..." Isabella's face drained of color, and she began to crumble in Sebastian's steadying hold.

"Isabella," Sebastian called out, concern lacing his voice.

"Alex, please, save me, save our child. Vicky, please don't be so heartless. The child is innocent." Isabella's face was streaked with tears as she pleaded with Alexander and then Victoria.

Alexander, finally releasing Victoria's hand, felt a wave of relief wash over him, yet he remained momentarily rooted to the spot. He stooped down, lifting the tear-streaked woman from the ground, "I need to get her to the hospital."

"Alright." Victoria wouldn't risk a life on a gamble. However, her gaze lingered on the path he had taken, an involuntary action. She even felt the urge to slap herself. What was she searching for?

Isabella was in pain, and he couldn't feign indifference any longer. It was evident that others could have escorted Isabella to the hospital. He had claimed the child wasn't his, but if that were true, why was he the first to rush to her side in concern?

Ha!

Suddenly, someone took a seat beside her. She turned to look. It was the man rumored to be the child's father.

Sebastian? Yes, Sebastian. His eyes were downcast, reflecting the image of a man left in the dust. Victoria considered the possibility that Sebastian had also fallen for Isabella. Were they both adrift in the same sea of despair? She didn't know how to console him.

As she rose to leave, he spoke, "Let me walk you home."

Upon reaching the entrance of her apartment complex, Sebastian finally shattered the silence, his voice barely above a whisper, "Don't be too harsh on Alex."
