Chapter 199 Desire

"Vicky, I want you," he declared, his voice echoing in the silent room.

His kisses were gentle, akin to a soft breeze caressing her skin. The sensation was indescribable, akin to a child savoring a sweet candy. A sudden chill ran down her spine, sending shivers through her body. The room was shrouded in darkness, yet every touch, every scent was magnified, creating an atmosphere of heightened senses.

After freshening up, the lingering scent of alcohol on his breath was replaced by an overpoweringly strong mint aroma. It was so intense that it made her head spin. It was only when she felt her nightgown being lifted that she felt a shiver run down her spine. Instinctively, she clutched his hand, uttering his name, "Alexander."

There was a saying that merely hearing a woman call out a man's name could send him over the edge. Alexander had never believed it. He had no intentions of taking it this far with her tonight. The lights were off only to spare them both the embarrassment. But when she called out for him, her voice laced with fear and longing, something inside him snapped. He was consumed by an overwhelming desire to have her.

His feelings for her were a mystery, even to himself. But his yearning for her was undeniable, maddening even.

"I'm right here," he murmured, his lips brushing against her ear. Victoria Kensington shuddered, quickly pulling away, "No..."

Before she could finish her sentence, he silenced her with a kiss, his arms wrapping around her tightly.

"Vicky, I want you," he whispered against her feverish skin. His hand covered her mouth, muffling her protests as he whispered again, "Don't tell me no."

They were husband and wife. Their intimacy was their right, uncontested and just. He could no longer hold back, his hand gripping hers tightly.

"Ah, stop!" Victoria recoiled, attempting to flee, but was swiftly pulled back into his embrace. "Don't be afraid," he reassured her.

But how could she not be terrified?

"Don't do this, Alexander Harrington, please," she pleaded, tears streaming down her face. She was petrified. He wanted to proceed without clarity or understanding, but she refused to yield herself to confusion and haze. The thought of trusting him was uncertain. To surrender herself to a man, she needed assurance. But how could she give herself to him when assurance was absent? The fear was paralyzing; she trembled.

"You are my wife, it's your responsibility," he murmured, his voice a deep, rumbling echo in the silent room.

"That's not true, we might be getting a divorce soon," she countered, her voice breaking with a sob as she clenched her fists against her body.

The mention of divorce made his heart sink. Despite his longing, he felt her tear-stained cheeks as he leaned in to kiss her again.

"Crying again?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

She remained silent.

Of course, she was scared because of him.

"Okay, we won't do it. Just... stop crying, alright?"

"Okay," she agreed immediately.

Listening to her stifled sobs, Alexander Harrington reluctantly rolled away from her. Victoria Kensington lay there, afraid to move an inch. Alexander Harrington leaned in close, burying his face next to her ear, and let out an involuntary sigh, “Do you know how hard this is for me?”

Victoria Kensington was unaware of his struggle. She only knew her own difficulties. At least afterward, he just held her, without crossing any lines.

Victoria Kensington woke up early, before he stirred from sleep. Glancing at the mess he'd made of her, she swiftly moved to find clothes to wear, leaving the bedroom behind. Thankfully, there were plenty of outfits there she hadn’t worn before. She went downstairs, intending to slip away quietly. But then...

“Mrs. Harrington.”

“Nanny?”

Victoria Kensington turned around at the sound of her name and, seeing the apron-clad figure standing in the kitchen, exclaimed in surprise. “Good morning, Mrs. Harrington. Up so early, are we? Perhaps preparing a special birthday breakfast for Mr. Alexander?”

“Birthday?”

Was it Alexander Harrington’s birthday today?
