Chapter 989 Adjustment
His eardrums buzzed, and a hint of mockery appeared in his sharp eyes.
She pressed tightly against the back of the sofa, her hand that had slapped him trembling.
She thought she was going to get hit.
But more than getting hit, she feared this brief silence.
Then, because of her fear, her sensitivity decreased.
When he kissed her again, the first kiss was heavy, but she didn't notice.
When she tried to use her hands again, they were quickly pinned down, and then his weight pressed down on her.
She sat on the sofa with her head held high, uselessly letting Alexander straddle her and fiercely capture her lips.
She felt his dominance and undeniable authority, yet she could do nothing.
He released her hands and instead held the back of her neck, pressing their lips even more tightly together.
Victoria suddenly smelled a scent that didn't belong to them, and her breath stopped.
"Daddy, Mommy?"
Then, the man on top of her also stopped.
She couldn't hear clearly, but she felt it must be that little girl.
Alexander stopped all his actions, slowly opened his eyes, and looked at Victoria, who was crying from his kiss.
He knew he had been too hasty.
When he saw Strawberry nearby, he had to help Victoria adjust her clothes and then sat back down.
Victoria curled up again, and Alexander picked up Strawberry and brought her over to Victoria.
He gently placed Strawberry's little hand in Victoria's.
She trembled, feeling it was Strawberry, and gently held her hand.
Strawberry's hand was warm and comforting.
Victoria felt a bit more at ease, her lips moved slightly, and then she hugged her knees, burying her lips in her arms, while lightly holding Strawberry's hand with the other.
But Strawberry quickly pulled her hand away and threw herself in front of Victoria, "Mommy, Mommy."
This time, she heard it.
She hugged Strawberry, her heart pounding.
She couldn't tell if it was because of the word of Mommy or the sudden hug.
She raised her hand, instinctively touching Strawberry's head.
When she felt Strawberry's hair, the corners of her lips lifted slightly.
"Mommy."
Strawberry snuggled into her arms.
She felt a bit ticklish but couldn't help but laugh.
Alexander sat nearby, watching.
Two maids also watched silently from a distance.
They thought Victoria would get better.
Alexander hugged both mother and daughter, gently reminding her, "Her name is Strawberry."
Victoria tensed up again because of his closeness.
She just lightly patted Strawberry and tried to move away.
Especially when his face brushed against her hair, she cautiously turned her face to move away.
But his hand held her in place, not letting her go.
After dinner, Alexander placed the freshly bathed Strawberry on her bed and guided Victoria's hand to Strawberry.
Victoria touched Strawberry, feeling a sense of mission, a careful, nurturing mission.
She touched her lightly, and she vaguely heard Strawberry laugh and snuggle into her arms.
Alexander sat nearby, making her feel a bit restrained.
Alexander watched her for a while, thinking, Victoria would eventually get better.
He got up to leave, wanting to tell Victoria he was going to take a shower, but he chose to remain silent, just lowering his head and walking towards the bathroom.
His phone rang, and Victoria heard it but didn't move.
It was Strawberry who rolled over, picked up his phone, pressed a few buttons, and put it to her ear, "Hello?"
"Ah, it's Miss Strawberry. Where's your dad?"
"Dad?"
Strawberry wasn't scared by the voice on the other end; instead, she was cheerful.
Victoria listened carefully but couldn't hear clearly until Strawberry suddenly put the phone to her ear.
"Can you let your dad answer the phone?"
Victoria found the voice familiar but couldn't place it.
The other side quickly hung up when there was no response, and Strawberry started chewing on the phone and pressing buttons again.
Victoria gently touched her, hearing the sound of running water from the bathroom.
She knew Alexander would take a while, so she quietly moved closer to Strawberry.
Seeing Victoria approach, Strawberry also snuggled closer to her.
Although they couldn't see each other, their foreheads touched.
Victoria didn't know why, but her heart suddenly surged with emotion.
It felt like her long-dark world finally had a glimmer of light.
"Strawberry!"
Her voice was hoarse and unclear.
Strawberry didn't understand why Victoria wouldn't look at her, so she cupped Victoria's face to make her look, and when Victoria still couldn't see her, she pulled at Victoria's eyes to make her look.
Victoria was a bit surprised but tried to cooperate.
Victoria thought Strawberry probably wanted her to see her.
Unfortunately, she couldn't see.
But Victoria still felt around, touching Strawberry's face, thinking she must be a very cute and beautiful little girl.
They called her Miss.
Today, Ms. Harrington also came.
They called Alexander Mr. Harrington. She had almost figured out the family relationships, but she didn't know what he wanted to do with her.
After washing up, Alexander came out and saw Strawberry and Victoria lying on the bed.
He saw that Strawberry was probably asleep, but Victoria wasn't.
He stood by the wall, slowly leaning against it.
After searching for so long, he was already exhausted. Only now, seeing them both in front of him, did he dare to take a breath and quietly watch.
She was back, and everything would get better.
He didn't know how long it had passed before he finally returned to the bed, sitting behind her and lying down against her back.
When his hand touched her waist, he felt her obvious tremble and stiffness.
But soon, she pretended nothing was wrong and didn't move.
He held her, touching her hand.
Her hand seemed to have become bony.
He still liked how she used to be.
He couldn't help but hold her tighter, wanting her to know how much he missed her, almost to the point of madness.
When he couldn't see clearly, he pressed his forehead against the back of her neck, hiding his face.
Victoria didn't move, puzzled by his actions, but thinking about Strawberry in her arms, she thought he wouldn't touch her if he loved Strawberry.
She didn't know what time it was, only that she felt the people in front and behind her were asleep.
Then she quietly touched Strawberry, lifted the blanket, and carefully climbed over Strawberry to get out of bed.
Her left hand missed, and she fell off the bed.
She let out a small cry, and when her body hit the floor with a thud, it woke Alexander.
She bit her lip, feeling the floor, and listened carefully to see if they had woken up.
Not hearing any movement, she thought she hadn't disturbed them and quickly turned around, feeling her way along the bed, slowly crawling out.
When she reached the foot of the bed, she lost her sense of direction. She thought she didn't know which way was the door and sat there dazed.
She didn't know she was diagonally opposite the door, just sitting there in confusion.
Then she felt a warm presence approach, and she trembled, her mouth moving but not saying anything.
But soon, her hand was grabbed and placed on his leg. She held her breath, her eyes filled with despair.
