Chapter 184 What If I Take Advantage of the Situation?
Victoria Kensington felt a surge of indignation at his control over her. She attempted to pry his hand from her leg, but her efforts proved futile. Frustration gnawing at her, she turned to him and demanded, "Release me."
Alexander Harrington remained silent, his countenance abruptly hardening. Her fiery spirit, reminiscent of a cornered wildcat poised to attack, intrigued him. He leaned in closer, his hand sliding from her leg to the nape of her neck. Victoria was caught off guard, finding herself instinctively drawn to the warmth of his lips. Alexander appeared rather satisfied with her involuntary response, his kiss a bold declaration of ownership.
Victoria made an effort to push him away, but Alexander swiftly seized her wrists, gently guiding her into a reclining position. Kneeling at the edge of the sofa, he surveyed the woman sprawled out before him. His voice, husky with desire, queried, "What will you do if I decide to seize this moment?"
Victoria's mind whirled with fear. Seize the moment? He noted her apprehension and purposefully averted his gaze. However, once she was reclining, there wasn't much to see. He chuckled, whispering against her forehead, "Darling, we're even."
Her cheeks flushed instantly. She was far from 'even.' "Does it feel unfair?" he softly inquired, catching her off guard once more. He placed her hand on his chest, cradling her moist cheek with a tender gaze. Victoria was uncertain of his meaning. Ever since her parents' untimely demise, she had felt adrift.
"Can we strive for more clarity in our discussions henceforth?" he asked, patiently seeking her input. Victoria was too overwhelmed to respond when her cell phone rang.
She was clad in sweatpants, her phone nestled in the pocket. Alexander's gaze trailed downward, and he reached to retrieve her phone. Victoria felt her leg tense under his touch. Before she could voice her protest, Alexander Harrington glanced at the caller ID, and with a resigned smile, he commented, "That boy is tenacious."
Victoria Kensington regarded him with a puzzled expression before her gaze involuntarily drifted to the phone.
Alexander had already answered, "Adrian."
"Bro? You're with Vicky?"
"Is it so peculiar for a husband and wife to be together at this hour?" Alexander nonchalantly redirected the question to the caller.
"Not at all, I just heard she was in the hospital today and wanted to check on her."
Adrian was being cautious.
Alexander Harrington glanced at the woman beneath him and playfully pinched her.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
Victoria Kensington's face turned a deep shade of red.
Adrian, hearing Victoria's voice, even though she tried to suppress it, recognized the person on the other end.
Adrian couldn't help but recall the scene he'd filmed that day - the lead actors playfully bantering during a phone call with a secondary character. In the story, he was the leading man, but in reality, he felt like the hapless supporting character.
He had to end the call, and Alexander casually tossed the phone aside. He then leaned over her, his voice as captivating as ever, "Victoria, what do you suppose your husband is up to?"
He had called her Victoria again. Was he concerned that she might betray him as well?
Victoria Kensington quickly averted her gaze, but didn't forget to admonish him, "Please, Mr. Harrington, don't answer my phone without my consent in the future."
His eyes sparkled with amusement, his voice a soothing melody, "Answering randomly? Adrian is my brother; you could say he's your brother-in-law."
