Chapter 234 His Apology to Vicky

That heart-wrenching sentence hung in the air, a revelation that clarified everything.

Benjamin and Edward shared a knowing glance before Edward turned to Alexander, curiosity etched on his face. "So, how exactly did you manage to upset your Mrs. Harrington?" he inquired.

Alexander's response was a shrug and a helpless, "Can I really upset her?" His agitation was palpable. That woman was truly something else.

"She's younger than you, Alexander," Benjamin reminded him gently, his tone patient. "If you want to share your life with her, you must learn to be less critical."

His words seemed to soothe Alexander, his furrowed brow gradually relaxing. Yes, he did want to share his life with Vicky. But her constant complaints about him were a thorn in his side. Her conversations with Adrian were always so gentle and caring, even extending to inquiries about his father. Yet, with him, it was a constant, "Mr. Harrington, please behave yourself."

Suddenly, the rumble of thunder echoed from outside, breaking the tense atmosphere. At the same time, William's phone rang. He whispered into the receiver, "Don't be afraid, sweetheart. I'll come to be with you."

Both Benjamin and Edward frowned at his words, while a cold expression washed over Alexander's face. Had William just referred to someone as 'sweetheart'?

"Dudes, I have to go. Something came up at home," William announced, standing up.

Edward shot him a teasing look. "Aren't you an only child?"

William's face flushed, and he scratched his head in embarrassment. "Come on, we're all adults here. Don't you understand terms of endearment?"

"Are you in love?" Benjamin chimed in, his tone curious.

"Yeah," William replied earnestly. Love was a serious matter to him. They often flirted with girls, seeming close but never quite crossing the line into love. But being in love was different. It meant wanting stability.

"I really have to go. My girlfriend was hurt when she was young and is afraid of thunderstorms," William explained, urgency in his voice. He might seem carefree around her usually, but he couldn't afford to delay now.

After he left, Alexander's expression darkened further.

Benjamin and Edward each lit a cigarette, their thoughts wandering. Why didn't they have girlfriends? They too yearned for love. But when they glanced at Alexander, who had been silent the whole time, his face a mask of seriousness, they couldn't help but wonder.

"What about you?" Benjamin asked, breaking the silence.

"There was an incident tonight, so I'm going back," Alexander replied, standing up abruptly.

"What happened?" Edward asked, concern evident in his voice.

"The Montgomery Family caused trouble at Victoria's apartment," Alexander disclosed before making a hasty exit.

How could he argue with her at a time like this? She was naturally timid.

Edward watched him leave, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Do you think he's really in love with Victoria?" he asked Benjamin.

"When Isabella announced her pregnancy, he was stunned for a long time," Benjamin recalled. "And when Victoria was threatened, he became incredibly anxious."

"Do you remember why he got drunk that time?" Benjamin probed further.

Edward shook his head helplessly after a moment of thought. "That's the point."---
Upon reaching home, Alexander headed straight for the master bedroom.

She had forgotten to lock the door, probably due to her heightened nerves. Curled up on the bed, she seemed so small, so vulnerable. "No, don't, Dad, Don't leave..." she mumbled in her sleep, her hands flailing.

Alexander approached her, gently holding her hands and enveloping her in a comforting embrace. This wasn't the first time he had witnessed her nightmares. She often dreamt of that fateful day when her parents took her shopping. Was she trying to prevent the accident in her dreams? Did she wish to stop the car crash from happening?

Sadly, life didn't offer many 'what ifs.' All he could do was hold her tight, soothe her fears, and help her calm down. But in doing so, he realized that his own heart was aching. He felt a pang of guilt for the accident, as their parents had been returning from his grandmother's birthday celebration.

In the quiet darkness, he held her close, whispering softly, "Vicky, I'm sorry."
