Chapter 812 Hidden in the Darkness
"I used to think that Adrian was my biggest rival in love. You two are about the same age, have similar interests, and were college classmates who could talk about anything. But that day, when I saw Samuel, I realized that any man could be my biggest rival."
Alexander murmured into the crook of Victoria's neck.
It was like he was talking nonsense.
But he hadn't had much to drink tonight.
"Even if you're mad at me, no matter how many ways you try to upset me, can you not use this one?"
He continued speaking.
Victoria suddenly found herself unable to say anything.
Arguing?
In his mind, was it just a simple argument between them?
Then why did she have to go through so much emotional and physical torment?
"He has the fingers, the eyes, and brows you like, Victoria, I'm panicking."
Alexander's breath grew hotter.
Tears quickly welled up in Victoria's eyes.
But she had already made things clear with Samuel.
Samuel was great in many ways, but that didn't mean she would like him.
Samuel and Alexander could never be compared.
In anyone's eyes, a clean person was always pleasing to the eye, that's for sure.
But feelings of attraction were a different thing.
Victoria stared at the darkened light on the ceiling, slowly sinking into the cold abyss of her thoughts, unable to pull herself out.
The sleet outside continued, and he was still on top of her.
The two of them just lay there quietly, neither saying another word.
The next morning, when Victoria woke up, her head was still a bit heavy. All night, the first thing she saw was Alexander in his pajamas. Her heart ached faintly, but there was also an indescribable warmth.
He was lying next to her, looking like he had slept well.
Victoria's eyes couldn't hide her sadness but also an uncontrollable tenderness.
Footsteps sounded outside the door. Victoria slowly sat up, listening to the footsteps fade away, and then quietly got out of bed.
They had slept together so many times that she didn't even feel embarrassed.
When she went out, she saw Arabella holding Strawberry and feeding her formula. She immediately went up, "Mom, good morning."
"Good morning, did you sleep well last night?"
Arabella, holding Strawberry in one arm and the bottle in the other, still managed to glance at her with concern.
"Pretty well."
Victoria replied, but her eyes were already fixed on Strawberry's little mouth.
Strawberry was such a good eater, not picky at all.
Arabella noticed Victoria's response and couldn't help but look at her again.
Arabella could tell that Victoria wasn't indifferent to Alexander; she was just hurt.
When it came to matters of the heart, sometimes you just needed to be gentle. But Alexander never seemed to grasp that.
Arabella found it strange that Alexander's temper was nothing like Maximus's.
After marrying Maximus, they hardly ever argued. Maximus was particularly good at reading her moods and immediately catering to her.
After breakfast, Alexander drove Victoria to work. At a red light, Alexander stopped the car and glanced at her. Victoria was looking down, dealing with work matters. He said lightly, "How are you busier than me?"
"I'm just an employee."
Victoria replied softly, continuing to respond to messages.
But soon, her wrist was grabbed.
She stopped what she was doing and stared at the hand on her wrist.
He said Samuel's hands were nice.
Could Samuel's hands be nicer than his?
She did like nice hands, but if those hands were on someone else...
"Take your hand off."
She said softly.
Alexander simply moved her hand onto his thigh.
Victoria turned to look at him, "Alexander."
"Don't argue. It's time to go."
Alexander timed it perfectly and started the car.
The car turned towards the Harrington Group office building. When they reached a less crowded area, Victoria quickly pulled her hand away and stuffed it into her pocket, saying calmly, "We're going to go to court for our divorce."
Hearing her words, Alexander glanced at her and smiled faintly, "Do whatever you want, I'll go along with it."
Victoria felt uneasy hearing this and looked at him, saying, "Alexander, can you not use your power to oppress me?"
"No."Alexander thought for a while and smiled as he answered.
Victoria was instantly frustrated and couldn't say anything, just looking elsewhere.
The Attorney's number flashed on her phone, and he said, "Dismissed."
Victoria couldn't react for a long time. The attorney asked her, "You can still appeal, but if you do, it will be the end between you two. I will work hard to find evidence of Alexander's infidelity and the evidence that almost cost you your life. We can win this divorce case, but it might not be good for him, and the Harrington Group will be affected."
"I'll call you back later."
Victoria said and hung up the phone.
Alexander asked, "The attorney?"
"I'm going to appeal."
"But you need to understand, I have not been unfaithful."
Seeing her seriousness, Alexander calmly reminded her.
Victoria turned to look out the window, "Really?"
"The attorney is very confident that you will win if we go to court, but that's because he doesn't know everything that has happened between us. I am also a victim."
Alexander was so solemn that Victoria turned to look at him, shocked.
He said he was also a victim.
She had stabbed him, so he was indeed a victim.
"And if we take this to court, it will just give the public more gossip. How does that benefit the Harrington family, either of us or Strawberry?"
Alexander suddenly asked her calmly.
"I just want a divorce. If you agree to the divorce, there won't be so much trouble."
Victoria couldn't hold back anymore.
She just wanted a divorce. Why wouldn't he grant her that?
"I can't do that."
He looked at her, calm as ever, but still only able to disappoint her.
He still loved her; how could he divorce her?
The thought of her with another man drove him crazy.
She could have her freedom, but she had to remain his wife.
"Letting you live on Rockland Street is already my biggest concession."
Alexander added.
Victoria looked at him, then clenched her phone but couldn't say another word.
The whole day, aside from work, they had no further communication.
In the afternoon, as soon as work ended, Victoria drove back to Rockland Street.
She was startled to see Adrian at home, closed the door, and walked in, "Adrian, when did you get back?"
"Today."
Adrian, holding Strawberry, smiled at her and said, "Strawberry still remembers me."
Victoria smiled, walked over to the sofa to look at Strawberry, and said, "I'll go wash my hands and be right back."
She had a habit of washing her hands as soon as she got home. When she came back out, she saw Adrian still making Strawberry laugh and walked over to sit next to them, "Are you starting work soon?"
"Yeah, you look a bit tired. Are you very busy?"
"Just started work, so it's a bit hectic. Let me hold her."
Victoria didn't want to talk much and reached out to take Strawberry.
Adrian placed Strawberry on her lap and suddenly asked, "Is there some kind of agreement between you two?"
"What?"
Victoria was taken aback.
Adrian suddenly said understandingly, "Never mind, I won't make you tell me. Just know that I'll be there for you whenever you need me."
Adrian left after dinner, signaling her to come downstairs with him.
At the bottom of the stairs, a tall figure of a man was hidden in the darkness.
At the entrance of the stairwell, Adrian said, "I couldn't say this in front of Eve earlier, but I can help you get a divorce."
It was drizzling outside. Victoria stood opposite him, looking at him in the dim light, puzzled, "How?"
