Chapter 396 Alexander's Proposal Rejected
"Alexander had quietly left and returned.
When Victoria opened her eyes once more, the surrounding silence was so profound that she could hear the sound of a falling needle.
She lay on a large white bed, feeling a faint beam of sunlight shine.
At seven in the morning, the sun was actually very bright. The curtains were only slightly open.
She got up, feeling a bit weak on her side, and then suddenly turned towards his pillow.
But under the pillow, her hand felt empty at many touchpoints. She panicked and lifted the pillow.
How did she fall asleep last night?
They blamed it on how warm his embrace was.
Victoria's feet tended to be cold for a long time, making it hard for her to fall asleep alone, but he was like a furnace, and every time she snuggled up to him, she easily drifted off.
""Mrs. Harrington, are you awake?""
Someone pushed the door open from outside, and Victoria immediately sat up, her little face blushing slightly in irritation.
He was wearing a white shirt, black trousers, and white slippers, walking towards her.
But this time, he didn't sit down or rush over.
Instead, he kneeled on one knee.
Victoria's heart raced as she stared blankly at him. ""What are you doing?""
He gestured for her to be quiet, then lowered his head to open the box in his hand, presenting it to her, looking up at her with utmost seriousness, and asking, ""Victoria, will you marry me?""
Victoria stared at him dumbfounded, then glanced at the huge diamond, her heart pounding wildly for a few moments, like fireworks bursting, but quickly returning to calm.
""What are you doing?""
She asked him, not pleased.
""Proposing,"" he replied.
Alexander didn't expect her to question him. With this posture, the ring in his hand, and the words he just said, how could any of it not indicate that he was proposing?
Victoria choked up. ""I'm sorry, I can't say yes.""
How could he propose to her like this after all this time?
Victoria threw off the covers, quickly getting out of bed.
Then, she felt a slight pain in her lower abdomen.
In the blink of an eye, a fresh red stain appeared on the white sheet.
Was she on her period?
When she first saw that red spot, she was tense because she remembered that day, but after a while, she felt somewhat relieved.
She got her period, which meant she wasn't pregnant.
Victoria immediately felt relieved.
Alexander looked at the bed, stunned, then looked up at her and said, ""You...""
""I need sanitary pads,"" Victoria said.
""I'll go buy them. What about you now?"" Alexander asked.
""I'm going to the bathroom,"" she replied.
""Victoria, can't you just say yes first?"" Alexander asked.
Alexander remained kneeling there.
In all honesty, he was exceedingly handsome—so handsome that she was eager to accept the sparkling diamond ring at once.
""I can't."" Victoria went to the bathroom, holding her stomach.
Alexander helplessly lowered his hand, looked at the diamond ring, and was puzzled. Was he not sincere enough, or was the diamond too large?
He thought their proposal ceremony shouldn't be too complicated. Just the two of them waking up in the morning.
He had specially returned to The Harrington Mansion last night, bringing back the prepared diamond ring, thinking she would love it, as it truly complemented her delicate skin.
But she didn't show any appreciation at all.
""Alexander, could you please go buy them quickly?"" Victoria shouted from inside.
She suspected he was still kneeling there.
Alexander placed the ring on the bedside table. It was hers anyway.
He went downstairs, but as soon as he reached the hall, he ran into Isabella. Isabella was even more excited to see him and immediately approached him. ""Alexander, are you coming down to go to work?""
""No, Victoria gets her period. I'm going to buy sanitary pads,"" Alexander replied.
""What?"" Isabella was stunned.
""I'll be off then,"" Alexander said.
Isabella quickly grabbed him. ""I have some here."""
