Chapter 683 She's Pregnant Again
"Just a baby born a few months ago," Adrian said, trying to play it cool.
Brett and Eloise held their breath, listening intently. Maximus scratched his head, looking puzzled. Inside, Alexander leaned back against the cold wall, trying to stay calm.
"She, she..."
"Our neighbor had a baby a few months ago. She loved the baby so much she went to hold it but almost dropped it," Adrian explained, acting all innocent, leaving Eloise speechless.
Everyone was stunned, but it kinda made sense.
"What else did you think? That I'd have a baby with Victoria?" Alexander asked with a smirk.
"She's Alexander's wife," Eloise whispered.
"They're not like that anymore," Adrian said, still looking chill, though his lashes lowered as he spoke, even while smiling.
"Adrian, they're not divorced yet."
"I know, Grandma. That's why I said we don't plan to get married. If Alexander wants to live like this forever, that's fine," Adrian said.
"Adrian..." Eloise was almost at a loss for words.
"You said my dad couldn't go after Arabella because Maximus and her were truly in love. But Victoria and Alexander aren't like that. If that's the case, why can't I like Victoria? Alexander gave his life to Isabella. Alexander cares most about Isabella. Can't I be with Victoria?" Adrian suddenly questioned, sounding humble.
Eloise's mouth moved, but no words came out for a long time.
"So, did Victoria agree to be with you?" Maximus, still trying to stay rational, asked.
"Yeah, we live together now, but I'm often not home. Frank and Ms. Wood are with her. She can't stand the cold now, not even in the summer," Adrian said.
"What's wrong with her?" Eloise asked, her heart tightening.
"Grandma, you forgot. She was beaten so badly her bones broke. It took a lot for her to walk again," Adrian said.
Eloise suddenly couldn't speak again and started to cry.
"But you don't need to worry. She's tough. She's been working out, trying to get back to her old self," Adrian added.
Eloise's heart ached, but she didn't know what to say. Brett and Maximus also felt uncomfortable. They never wanted Victoria to suffer in their family. They wanted to protect her, give her a life of luxury and happiness, but...
"Grandma, I want to ask you for a favor," Adrian suddenly got off the sofa and knelt in front of Eloise.
"What is it?" Eloise asked, her voice choked with tears.
"Grandma, don't make Alexander divorce her. Let the incident that almost killed her fade away with time. Let me take care of her and let her start a new life abroad," Adrian pleaded.
"Adrian," Eloise said, looking at Adrian's humble appearance, tears streaming down her face. She couldn't agree to let Adrian be with Victoria.
"Grandma, I grew up abroad and didn't get to see you often. I've never asked you or Grandpa for anything. Just this, just this one thing in my life, please?" Adrian pleaded humbly.
"Adrian, Grandpa and I know we owe you, but Victoria, she only loves Alexander," Eloise said, thinking it must be true. She remembered Victoria coming to her, sensing something bad would happen and saying those words. Victoria must love Alexander.
"She doesn't love him anymore, Grandma. She's scared to love Alexander. We're doing fine now. We can live under the radar, never go back to Ankenra City. No one will care if two cousins love the same woman. It's not a crime. Please don't see it as a disgrace. Even if you do, it doesn't matter. We'll disappear and let everyone forget us," Adrian said, almost pleading.
He believed there was nothing in this world that couldn't be done. As long as they were sincere, they could vanish.
"Let me see Victoria," Eloise suddenly said.
Adrian went silent. He didn't want anyone from the Harrington family to mess with Victoria.
"She got hurt because of me. Let me see her, okay?" Eloise pleaded.
"No, you'll just remind her of Alexander taking a knife for Isabella. She barely made it, Grandma. Please, I beg you, don't go looking for her," Adrian said.
"Adrian, what do you want me to do?" Eloise asked, looking at Adrian with both pain and helplessness. But if she agreed to Adrian, what about Alexander? She knew Alexander wasn't doing well either. Alexander always said he had given up on Victoria and their relationship didn't matter anymore, but he still fainted from emotional distress. That incident was Victoria's wound, but it was also Alexander's wound.
After dinner, Adrian stayed overnight at the Harrington Mansion. When he went to the rooftop to smoke, he saw Alexander standing there. He walked over and softly said, "Alexander."
Alexander just lowered his eyes and took a deep drag on his cigarette.
"Alexander, you don't want her anymore, right?" Adrian asked.
Alexander smoked without speaking. Adrian looked up and said, "Give her to me. You two are impossible anyway."
"She's not an object for us to pass around," Alexander finally spoke, but only in a cold tone.
Adrian looked at his stern demeanor and took a long time to calmly say, "You're right. Besides, we've been together for a long time."
Alexander's heart felt like it had been hit by something. He squinted his eyes and looked straight at Adrian.
Adrian smiled and said, "We don't care. It's just a marriage certificate. It can't bind a person's heart, right?"
"I can divorce her," Alexander said calmly, then looked out at the distant beach.
Adrian's heart tightened, "You can divorce her?"
"Yes," Alexander said seriously.
Adrian's heart shook for two seconds, but he held back and bitterly smiled while smoking. Adrian thought it was better not to let Victoria get divorced because divorce meant they would have to meet. If they met, anything could happen. Victoria was doing well now. She didn't need to see this person again.
"Alexander, she's forgotten everything," Adrian said.
"Everything you've said about her tonight only shows your uncertainty, Adrian. You're not as smart as you think, nor as confident," Alexander said, looking at him. Maybe it was because he was a few years older or because of different life experiences, but Alexander seemed like a high and mighty dictator, while Adrian seemed like a well-protected, naive child. In this context, being naive also meant being unable to hide his thoughts. All of Adrian's plans and intentions were displayed on his seemingly innocent face. It wasn't that he didn't want to hide them, he just couldn't.
"What if I said Victoria is pregnant again?" Adrian suddenly said.
