Chapter 594 He Said, Come Here and Take the Things with You
Victoria tried to steady her racing heart and replied calmly, "Yeah, let's talk about it tomorrow."
"Okay, let's talk about it tomorrow," Alexander murmured but didn't take a step back.
Victoria inadvertently saw a look in his eyes that gave her the illusion he was being humble.
She thought, 'But how could he be humble? He has always been in control, whether in business or with women.'
Lowering her gaze, she softly said, "Then..."
"You sleep on the bed," Alexander said immediately.
Victoria was a bit surprised, thinking, 'Can he read my mind?'
Then she said softly, "Thank you."
"Thank you for staying the night," Alexander suddenly said.
Victoria felt a bit awkward, as hewas being polite in a way she had never experienced before.
It was as if he was a well-mannered, considerate young man.
It felt like the way he was when they first met.
Back then, she thought he was that kind of person—noble, elegant, composed, and well-mannered.
"Then..."
’Can you move aside?‘ she thought. She hadn't figured out how to say it when Alexander smiled and said, "Actually, you can leave. I think Grandma is faking it. You know, she had done that before."
Victoria looked at him in confusion.
Alexander looked at her, too, still very polite.
Victoria said, "Then I'll go."
She thought if he said that, she would be misunderstood if she didn't leave.
"I mean, it's great that you can stay."
Just as she was about to move, he grabbed her shoulder.
"Alexander, what are you doing?" Victoria finally couldn't hold it in.
She suddenly felt that his deliberate politeness was just to mess with her.
He didn't answer but asked instead, "Aren't you tired?"
Victoria looked at him for a good ten seconds before replying, "Yes, I'm exhausted."
Talking to him was really tiring, exhausting her both physically and mentally.
"Then I want to do you a favor," said Alexander.
"What favor?" Victoria was confused.
"You need to take a bath, right?"
"What are you going to do?" Victoria suddenly became alert.
However, no matter how defensive she was, she couldn't match his speed in what he did next.
She suddenly found herself lifted off the ground, cradled in his arms.
Victoria's heart skipped a beat, and she looked at him in disbelief, "You..."
"To thank you for staying."
"No need. Alexander. I was just joking. I'm not tired at all."
Victoria felt like she was going crazy, thinking, 'Is he going to carry me to the bath?'
She suddenly became extremely nervous, really afraid he would tease her again.
"I don't like owing people. You've been my secretary for so long, and you should know that," Alexander said, carrying her into the bathroom and placing her on the sink; he looked straight at her, restrained to the point where it was hard to imagine anything inappropriate.
What he said was true, but...
Alexander said, "Sit here and don't move. I'll run the bath for you."
Victoria didn't move. He went to run the bath and then left.
She quietly let out a breath. Her legs had gone numb just now, and she was really afraid he would suddenly pounce on her again.
He wasn't really out of his mind.
Victoria thought, 'Have I thought too badly of him?'
Actually, Alexander was a very calm and rational person.
Previously, he always did some inappropriate things to her, but he also treated her as his wife.
Now, he seemed to have changed his mind. He even said Eloise was faking her illness. He must really want to let her go.
Victoria thought, 'How can I maliciously suspect him?'
While thinking, Victoria took off her clothes and went to take a bath.
——
Later, she lay on the bed while Alexander turned off the light and lay on the couch.
Her phone buzzed; it was Facebook.
While checking Facebook, she put her phone on silent.
He was polite, so she naturally couldn't be rude.
It was a message from Adrian. He was going to hold a concert on the beach, not far from where they were.
She just wanted to convert the voice message to text, but her finger slipped, and Adrian's voice played out.
"It's on Christmas. I'm giving you a heads-up; remember to come."
Victoria quickly turned off her phone, but the voice message had already played.
Fortunately, it was short.
Alexander, on the couch, turned over and asked, "Adrian?"
"Yes," she responded, pretending to be casual, but her ears were perked up, listening for any movement from his side.
Alexander sat up and asked, "What's up with him now?"
Victoria replied, "He's holding a concert on the beach for Christmas."
"Are you a fan of his?"
She didn't dare to say yes.
Alexander asked, "What do you like about him?"
"He has a great voice." Victoria thought for a moment and, forgetting some things for a moment, told him calmly as if chatting with a friend.
Alexander chuckled, "Got it."
The room was quiet for a while, then she heard movement behind her, like footsteps.
"He has a song I can sing a few lines of. I'll sing it for you."
Suddenly, Alexander's voice came from behind, though it was rather cold.
She immediately turned around and sat up defensively, keeping her distance from him.
Alexander sat on the edge of the bed, looking at her defensive expression, and suddenly started singing.
The theme song of a TV show played, and it was sung by Adrian.
When he said he would sing Adrian's song, she thought he was just saying it to see her reaction, but he really sang it. And how could Adrian's voice compare to his?
Victoria stared at him, momentarily forgetting to react.
Alexander stopped in time, a slight smile in his distant eyes, and asked her, "How was it?"
She didn't quite understand.
Alexander explained, "Whose voice is better, mine or his?"
Victoria didn't expect this question.
She looked at him for a while, then lowered her head, awkwardly looking elsewhere, and asked, "Can we sleep now?"
She wouldn't praise him.
Their current dynamic was just right, with a bit of distance, not disturbing her peace of mind.
Alexander said, "I thought you would think I'm good too. Looks like it was my wishful thinking. Let's sleep."
He suddenly got into bed and pulled up the covers.
Victoria stared in shock, unable to help but retreat and ask, "What are you doing?"
Alexander replied, "You said to sleep, right?"
"I did say sleep, but..."
"Let's sleep. We have things to do tomorrow," he said, then turned over and even turned off the light for her.
Victoria sat there dumbfounded, completely stunned.
She thought, 'What does he mean by "we have things to do tomorrow"? Just sleep? Isn't he supposed to sleep on the couch?'
Victoria said, "Then I'll sleep on the couch."
"Victoria."
"What?"
"You didn't take my words seriously tonight, did you?" Alexander suddenly asked her seriously.
Victoria looked at him in confusion, "What words?"
"Just those." He seemed hesitant to speak.
"Which ones?"
"There's something I want you to take with you before you leave."
In the dark, he held her hand tightly.
"Alexander."
"Come here, take it with you." His cold voice was firm as he slowly pulled her into his arms.
