Chapter 707 The Battle for the Strawberry

"Thanks." When the kitchen help brought her the soup, she gave a quick nod.

"Mrs. Harrington, no need for all that. This is just to keep you healthy, so drink up."

"Sure thing." Victoria agreed, sneaking a glance at Alexander.

Victoria thought, 'Didn't he tell them not to call me that?'

Alexander's phone buzzed. He picked it up, checked the screen, and answered, "Edward."

"She's back. Hold on." Alexander said, then looked at her seriously, "Edward and Olivia heard you're back and wanna see you."

"Tonight? How about tomorrow?" Victoria asked.

It wasn't that she didn't want to go. She just wanted more time with Strawberry and was too tired to go out.

"She said she won't go." Alexander shot her a cold look, not even bothering to look at her.

Victoria thought he was being really heartless now.

Neither of them said anything more.

Dinner was quiet.

The chef and Jenny stood in the kitchen corner, waiting to be called, feeling anxious about the silence in the dining room.

After dinner, Alexander looked at Victoria and asked, "Want a drink?"

"No, thanks."

Victoria looked puzzled but figured he, being a guy, probably didn't get it, so she stayed calm.

Alexander didn't say anything else, called Jenny to pour him some red wine, and before drinking, he just stared at Victoria, saying, "I don't plan to let Strawberry have breast milk anymore."

"I didn't catch that."

After a moment, Victoria looked at his serious face and spoke up.

After he said that, she couldn't just stay quiet.

At first, she just wanted the elders to take Strawberry away from him. She didn't want to fight.

But after his words, she knew a fight was coming.

"Are you deaf?" Alexander snapped.

Now there was a hint of conflict.

"Got it."

Victoria's lips moved, she smiled for a second but then frowned, saying, "Mr. Harrington, anything else you haven't said?"

"Actually, I told you everything. I gave you a chance."

Alexander brought it up again.

Hearing his words, Victoria fell into memories.

He gave her a chance? Was it the day he slept in her bed and she splashed him with fever medicine? He hinted for her to confess and hand over Strawberry. But she didn't agree.

Victoria suddenly looked at him curiously and asked, "Actually, I want to confirm something with you first."

"Shoot." Alexander held the wine glass with one hand, leaning back in his chair, looking at her dominantly.

"When you came to find me that night, had you already sent someone to find Strawberry?"

"Yep."

Alexander responded openly without any hesitation.

Victoria held her breath and went silent for a while.

Alexander continued, "When you kicked me out of your house, I already knew where they were and had sent people to take Strawberry."

Victoria laughed, then looked straight at him.

Since they had talked this far, they had completely fallen out with each other behind the scenes.

His words and actions were all calculated, and what about her?

"Are you trying to fight me for custody of our daughter now?"

"I ain't got the time to argue with you. You know no matter what you do, it's all pointless," Alexander said.

"How can you be so sure? She's only four months old, and the law's on my side."

"But you're not exactly in tip-top shape, are you?"

Victoria was suddenly at a loss for words.

At that moment, she realized he knew way more than she thought.

Alexander's cold eyes were locked on her face. Seeing she finally got it, he spoke again, "From the day I found out I had a daughter, I started digging into everything."

Victoria lowered her head, silently gripping the bowl in front of her.

She thought, 'Stay cool, don't lose it, take it slow.'

There had to be a way. She looked up again, trying to meet his gaze calmly.

"Obviously, the reason you hid our daughter from me is the same as my reason for finding out the truth. We both want her for ourselves."

Alexander spoke like a top-notch negotiator. He not only predicted everything but also uncovered it all.

With her health issues, her chances of getting the kid were slim.

But she was still Strawberry's mom.

"Alright." Victoria finally just lowered her head and humbly responded.

Alexander's gaze didn't soften; it got sharper.

Her current look meant she was scheming again.

Was she planning to act all pitiful to get his sympathy and let her take their daughter? No way! He'd never agree to that.

He could give her freedom, but taking his daughter away? Not happening.

"Can I stay here tonight? We've never been apart for so long." Victoria asked.

Alexander's heart skipped a beat, his eyes narrowing as he looked at her.

Victoria forced a smile, "Can I? Let me stay with her."

Alexander gripped the wine glass tighter, stood up, and said, "Do what you want."

He didn't finish his wine and left.

Victoria sat there for a bit, then took the elevator upstairs.

She thought about their situation for a long time, and when she couldn't think anymore, she hugged Strawberry and fell asleep.

Strawberry woke up early, so Victoria woke up with her.

Barbara arrived on time. She held Strawberry, but no matter what, Strawberry wasn't happy today.

Victoria went to wash up, and Strawberry followed her.

Until Alexander suddenly showed up.

"Why are you looking so sad? Come here." Alexander took Strawberry from Barbara and walked out with her.

Strawberry immediately turned her head to look at Victoria, who was washing up, and kept babbling.

"I'll be done soon."

Victoria quickly rinsed her mouth and called out to the door.

Unexpectedly...

"Aren't you leaving?" He turned and gave her a cold look, questioning her.

Victoria immediately froze.

There was still some water on her hair from washing her face.

"I'm not leaving today, I have to go to the Harrington Mansion," she said.

"Then are you meeting your friends tomorrow? There's a female secretary in the office building who seems to be your friend too."

"Janaye?" Victoria guessed.

"I thought you had forgotten her." Alexander mocked, still holding Strawberry as he walked out.

Victoria felt a surge of warmth in her heart.

Janaye was still there.

Alexander, holding Strawberry, murmured as he walked out the door, "Guess how much she still remembers?"
