Chapter 655 Alexander, Victoria Wants to Kill Me
Isabella peeled out of Timothy's mansion, but she didn't get far before she felt eyes on her.
Next morning, the headlines were all about Isabella sneaking out of Timothy's place late at night.
Naomi walked in to find Isabella chilling with a cup of coffee. "How can you be so chill, sipping coffee like that?"
"Everyone knows about my fling. Let's talk about you. Where were you last night? Why didn't you come home?"
"I was at a friend's place," Naomi said, strolling in.
"What friend?" Isabella asked, cool as a cucumber.
"Just a female friend of mine. She just got divorced and was feeling down, so I went to keep her company."
Naomi thought her excuse was solid; she could use it again as long as Isabella bought it.
But Isabella wasn't buying it. "Mom, do you have a lover? Like, a steady one?"
"Of course not!" Naomi shot back, all nervous.
Isabella stared her down for a long minute. "Mom, don't you get it? Men are unreliable."
"Isabella, stay out of my business. Right now, we need to get Arthur out of the company."
"Him? Just wait and see," Isabella muttered, sipping her coffee. Arthur was a nobody to her.
She had ways to boot him out of the company. It might be tricky, but she loved a good challenge. Easy stuff bored her.
Victoria, on the other hand, liked things simple. She avoided anything too complicated.
Victoria grew up in a loving home, so no matter how crazy the world got, she stayed grounded.
She loved her little bubble of happiness.
But Victoria still had nightmares.
The doc said it might be pregnancy anxiety, but she had her own thoughts.
It seemed like Isabella was with Timothy, but before that, she had pretended not to be in touch with Alexander. It didn't take long before she found him again, even in their home.
Victoria knew she had to be extra careful.
When she went to VicLiv, she always had Frank tailing her, keeping her in sight.
She couldn't afford any slip-ups, not now.
She'd protect her baby at all costs.
Victoria ran into Isabella again while dining with a client at a private restaurant.
She rarely handled VicLiv's affairs, but Olivia was on a business trip.
As she sat with her older client, Grace Harper, she noticed Isabella at a diagonal table, staring her down.
Isabella was with a guy who looked anything but ordinary.
Isabella took a drag from her cigarette and blew the smoke towards Victoria.
Victoria found it amusing and quickly looked away to continue her chat with the client.
The client noticed Isabella and said, "Rivals in love, huh?"
Victoria just smiled.
"Shameless women like her are tough. They have this obsessive pride and only lash out when they can't get what they want," Grace said, raising an eyebrow and sipping her coffee.
Victoria looked at her and wondered if this tough lady had her own troubles.
"When I was pregnant, my husband's mistress came to our house, saying she brought him food and invited me to try it. I was dumb enough to eat it, and then..." Grace stopped talking.
Victoria tightened her grip on her cup.
"I lost my baby," Grace shrugged, but her smile couldn't hide the bitterness.
Victoria felt a tightness in her chest. "And then?"
There had to be more. Why should the mistress be happy while she was miserable? It shouldn't be that way.
"Then we got divorced. I remarried my current husband, and now we have two kids. We're pretty happy," Grace continued.
Victoria's tense heart slowly relaxed. Happiness was all that mattered.
"Don't sweat the small stuff. Life's short; you gotta stay positive," Grace said, clinking her coffee cup with Victoria's.
Victoria found her even more likable and admired her more.
After the food arrived, Victoria felt a bit queasy from the smell and headed to the restroom. Just as she entered, Isabella followed her.
Frank blocked her at the door.
"Why are you blocking me? Can't I use it?" Isabella asked, all defiant.
"Ms. Montgomery, please don't make things difficult for me, or I won't hesitate to use force," Frank said coolly.
"I offered you seven hundred grand to come with me, and you still refused, Mr. Patterson. You're the bodyguard I respect the most. Name your price, and I'll try to meet it," Isabella leaned against the wall, trying to chat him up.
Frank thought she was just a troublemaker. He wasn't so broke that he'd work for someone like her. "I have no intention of changing jobs," he replied calmly.
When Victoria came out after puking, she saw Isabella leaning against the wall, her smile fading as soon as she saw her.
Frank immediately went up to support her, "Mrs. Harrington, are you alright?"
"I'm fine. Let's go," Victoria said calmly.
"Yes, ma'am." Frank supported Victoria as they walked out.
"It seems you're not doing well after getting pregnant. I've heard some women are naturally unfit for pregnancy. Some miscarry early, and some lose their lives during childbirth. What are you trying to do?" Isabella's words suddenly slowed down, then sped up.
Victoria suddenly stepped in front of Isabella, one hand propped against the wall beside her neck, "Isabella, I advise you to behave yourself. If anything happens to me or my baby, I swear, as long as I'm alive, I'll make your life a living hell."
Isabella didn't expect Victoria to confront her like that. But more importantly, the murderous intent in Victoria's cold eyes made Isabella too scared to immediately retort. She just held her breath and looked at her defensively, "I don't understand what you're talking about."
"You better pray I give birth to my baby safely," Victoria said in a calm voice, slowly removing her hand from the wall beside Isabella's neck.
Isabella felt that Victoria's gaze at that moment was like a knife against her throat.
And Victoria was actually just being pushed to the brink by Isabella.
Victoria didn't want to have nightmares anymore.
After confirming that Isabella was scared, Victoria turned to Frank and said, "Let's go."
Frank followed behind her, glancing back at the frightened Isabella, feeling a bit pleased.
Victoria was usually so quiet that it gave people the illusion she wouldn't get angry. But she was also a normal person; she would get angry of course. It was just that she hadn't been pushed to the limit.
Victoria being like this was good; it would prevent Isabella from thinking she was easy to bully.
Isabella, on the other hand, suddenly felt defeated.
That day, Isabella went to the Harrington Group office building. Once, she was treated as an honored guest, seen as the future Mrs. Harrington. It was so glorious.
But now, she could only stand outside and wait for Alexander.
She chose to arrive half an hour before lunch.
She knew Alexander liked to have lunch at the nearby restaurant. Sure enough, not long after, Alexander came out with Edward and Shoure.
The three of them were momentarily stunned to see her, but then Alexander acted as if he hadn't seen her and walked briskly to the left, so Edward and Shoure also pretended not to see her.
Isabella stood in the wind, feeling humiliated as he treated her like air, but she quickly ran up, "Alexander, Victoria wants to kill me."
Alexander finally stopped.
