Chapter 120 Why Has Alex Grown Distant from You All of a Sudden?

Alexander halted in his tracks, pivoting to face the oncoming figure.

"Stay back," he warned.

His words were barely out before he was off, sprinting in pursuit of her.

Victoria was on the brink of hailing a taxi when an iron grip seized her wrist.

Raising her gaze, she found herself locked in Alexander's stare.

From the depths of the building, Isabella emerged, maintaining a cautious distance.

Victoria's eyes flicked between Isabella and Alexander. "Release me," she demanded.

"Fetch my car," Alexander commanded a nearby attendant.

"Certainly, sir."

Even after the taxi had departed, Alexander remained at her side, his grip unyielding.

Victoria attempted to wriggle free, but Alexander's hold was steadfast. "Stop struggling," he ordered.

"Then release me."

"What did you say?"

He leaned in, as though intending to steal a kiss.

Startled, Victoria recoiled, her lips firmly sealed.

Isabella cautiously approached, whispering, "Alex."

He shot her an icy glare. "I warned you to keep your distance."

Tears silently began their descent down Isabella's cheeks. As Alexander's car arrived, he guided Victoria into the vehicle, securing her seatbelt while issuing a veiled threat, "Should you attempt to flee again, you're aware of the consequences, correct?"

Victoria remained silent, obediently seated.

Yet, in her mind, she mused over the shared trait between him and Isabella — their constant use of the phrase, "you’re aware of the consequences." How was she supposed to know what that meant?

Did she possess some portal into their minds?

Without sparing Isabella another glance, Alexander shut the door and drove off with Victoria.

Isabella took a few steps forward before coming to a standstill, paralyzed.

She was at a loss. Did he know everything?

But how could that be?

Or had his interest in her waned the moment he laid eyes on Victoria? He had made promises upon his return, after all.

Isabella couldn't stand idly by, especially now that Alexander and Victoria were mere acquaintances. She had to sever any potential bond between them.

That evening, Isabella sought out the club where she found Edward and the long-absent Sebastian.

Sebastian barely acknowledged her presence before averting his gaze, his voice devoid of emotion, "Shouldn't you be at home, tending to yourself and the child you carry?"

"I would if I could, but what's transpiring between Alex and that... Victoria?" Isabella confessed her unease.

Edward furrowed his brow, puzzled over the potential problem. It was merely a budding affection.

"When did you get back?"

Isabella directed her question at Sebastian.

Sebastian barely glanced at her, offering a faint smile, "Before dusk."

"Are you leaving again?"

She inquired further.

Their eyes locked. Did she wish for him to depart?

"I don't think so, not for now," he replied.

A surge of irritation washed over Isabella for reasons unknown, and she averted her gaze, "I was under the impression you were to oversee a new branch out of town."

Sebastian remained silent.

However, Edward detected a tension in the air.

Did they harbor some hidden resentment or perhaps a secret?

"Let others manage the business expansion. The Montague family is teeming with talent. Seb is needed at the headquarters," Edward interjected.

"Ha, as if he has any claim to the Montague legacy. His presence here is futile," she thought bitterly. Sebastian, the offspring of a mistress who had fortuitously passed when he was young, was begrudgingly accepted by Mrs. Montague. But with three sons of her own, there was no way Sebastian could stake a significant claim in the Montague enterprise.

Growing increasingly distressed, Isabella turned back to Edward, "You're close with Alex. Can't you warn him? That woman isn't suitable for him, and he's on the verge of fatherhood."

"Why has Alex suddenly grown distant from you?"

Edward poured himself a drink, his question lingering in the air.

Something had changed after Alexander's return. But what? And why?
