Chapter 765 The Cunning Woman
"If he dares to say he hasn't divorced, Victoria's gonna lose it," Arabella guessed.
"Not so sure about that," Maximus replied.
Arabella shot him a look. "Wanna bet? Mom and Dad can be the judges."
Brett seemed interested but quickly backed off, "Nah, let's drop it."
"We're trying to keep Victoria here. I'm worried she'll get upset and head back to Elysium Country to spend Christmas alone," Eloise said, leaning forward anxiously.
"Don't sweat it. Even if she wants to leave, Alexander won't let her. He's like her shadow, always around," Arabella reassured.
Maximus couldn't help but chuckle. Arabella nailed it. Alexander's arrogance and clinginess were pretty funny.
Daisy got home and spotted an invitation on her dad's desk. Her heart skipped a beat as she quickly opened it. Seeing it was for the Harrington Family's Welcome Baby Party, she got excited.
"Where did you go so early?" Ursa asked, coming downstairs and spotting Daisy.
"Mom, I just went out for a bit. Are we going to the Harrington Family's Welcome Baby Party tonight?"
"Yep, you better find something to wear," Ursa replied right away.
Daisy, thrilled, ran off with the invitation.
Ursa sighed, "Daisy really likes Alexander."
Daisy spent ages in her walk-in closet, overwhelmed by all the clothes. After some thought, she ran out again, smiling, "Mom, let's go shopping. I have nothing to wear."
Ursa looked at her daughter, speechless.
Despite having closets full of clothes, Daisy still claimed she had nothing to wear. But, being the doting mom she was, Ursa took Daisy shopping until they found the perfect outfit.
Soon, Jerome came back and asked, "Is Daisy home?"
"Dad, I'm here," Daisy greeted cheerfully before anyone else could answer.
"Where'd you go today?" Jerome asked.
Daisy's playful look vanished, and she nervously smiled. "Dad, I didn't go anywhere."
"The warden of Serlindor Prison is my college classmate."
Daisy's face went pale.
"What do you mean, Jerome? Don't scare me," Ursa demanded.
"Daisy went to the prison to see that woman, Isabella."
"What?" Ursa looked at her daughter in shock.
Daisy's room door was already closed. Jerome glanced upstairs, then angrily sat on the couch, fuming. "It's only been a few days since the contract was signed, and she's already causing trouble. If this keeps up, losing the business is the least of our worries; we'll end up like the Montgomery Family."
"Is it that serious?" Ursa asked, worried, sitting beside him.
"Well, you think? Alexander has warned me multiple times, both directly and indirectly. He can break the contract without a second thought, but think about how much we've already lost," Jerome said, recalling past events that made him furious.
He had repeatedly told Daisy not to act impulsively or do anything reckless, yet she dared to go to the prison.
"What do we do now?"
"I've already told him to keep quiet. Let's hope this whole mess blows over," Jerome replied, praying nothing else would go wrong. Alexander was ruthless enough to send his childhood sweetheart to prison; there was nothing he wouldn't do.
Jerome glanced upstairs again and said, "Go get her. I need to talk to her again. She shouldn't go to the Harrington Family's Welcome Baby Party tonight."
"Daisy is obsessed, always trying to find Alexander," Ursa said.
"But we can't let her do whatever she wants," Jerome replied.
Ursa quickly went upstairs to find Daisy. The door wasn't locked, and she saw Daisy curled up in a corner, looking scared. She walked over and said with concern, "Sweetie, what's wrong?"
"Mom, is Dad really mad?"
Ursa sighed and nodded, sitting down beside Daisy. "Yes, you are doing things that could ruin our Bryant Family."
"I just went to ask her a few questions. Isabella said Alexander doesn't love Victoria." Daisy's eyes filled with confusion.
"Do you believe what that woman says? She even dared to kidnap and threaten Eloise from the Harrington Family."
"Mom, I believe her," Daisy said with certainty in her eyes.
"How can you be so foolish?" Ursa hugged Daisy, feeling heartbroken that her daughter loved Alexander so deeply.
"Mom, I love him. He said he hadn't divorced, that he was just pretending with me. But Mom, I can't help but love him," Daisy mumbled in Ursa's arms.
"He made it so clear, yet you still fall for it? You're just asking for trouble."
"But Mom, I'm sure I have a chance too," Daisy believed that with her looks and obedient personality, she could win Alexander's love. She just needed to understand Victoria and Alexander better to win him over quickly and effectively.
Isabella claimed that Victoria was a pervert and unfaithful, and that she had threatened Alexander with their child to avoid divorce. Victoria was merely pretending to be considerate. If Daisy wanted to pursue Alexander, she would need to outdo Victoria in portraying herself as the victim.
"But Arabella told me their family only recognizes Victoria as their daughter-in-law. Daisy, can we just pursue him simply? If it doesn't work out, let it go. Don't play any tricks. We can't outsmart a family like that," Ursa advised.
"I won't let our family end up like the Montgomerys. The Montgomerys fell because Isabella's father was immoral and lawless. My dad is an honest businessman, and I won't be impulsive like Isabella, who even kidnapped Eloise from the Harringtons."
"I'll just show Victoria that her pretense is a thin veil, easily torn apart," Daisy said. She couldn't believe Victoria was such a person; she initially thought Victoria was good, but it turned out to be fake.
Isabella was right: Victoria was indeed a cunning woman. She only shared obvious information about Alexander, like his food preferences, which could easily be obtained from the restaurants he frequented.
However, she never taught Daisy how to win Alexander's favor. Despite being so good at seducing Alexander, Victoria never shared any tips. Victoria was just a hypocrite, probably using Daisy to play hard to get with Alexander.
