Chapter 978 The Mermaid's Tail
"Mr. Harrington, someone said they saw someone resembling Mrs. Harrington at an underground club on the outskirts of town."
The first snow of the winter arrived, but the city felt empty and ethereal.
Late into the night, a large group of people stormed into that underground club.
The deafening music inside, along with the debauchery of men and women, was unbearable to watch.
Led by Frank, the group quickly trapped everyone inside.
The only sound left was the noisy music, but it was soon turned off.
The place quickly became silent and dark, and everyone looked in one direction in confusion.
From the crowd, Alexander strode forward.
"Search."
He stood at the front with a powerful presence, his voice firm but not harsh.
Some people didn't even hear what he said clearly.
Everyone was just curious about which prominent family's daughter had gone missing.
After all, the place was a mix of all sorts of people, and girls from any kind of family could be found there.
It was said that not long ago, a young lady from a prestigious family had been tricked into coming here and was being used for entertainment.
The surroundings remained dim, except for the five people standing next to Alexander; the rest had already begun their search.
Women were lifted one by one to be identified, and then a group of people continued their violent search in the private rooms.
They were violent to intimidate everyone present.
However, after two hours, Frank returned to Alexander's side and shook his head in disappointment.
Alexander stood there and said only one word, "Continue."
This was the first time Alexander had received news about Victoria.
So, if he had to search the entire place, he wouldn't give up.
He had anticipated that it wouldn't be easy to find her quickly, but he had to find Victoria, even if it meant turning the underground upside down.
Not far away, in a large fish tank, a girl was swimming back and forth. She wore a skin-colored top that made her look almost naked, and a mermaid tail on her lower body.
That day, Alexander ultimately found nothing, but at least no information was leaked.
Early the next morning, Diana was about to go for a run just as dawn broke, and Alexander returned from outside.
"Alexander, why are you coming back at this hour?"
"Go for your run."
Alexander didn't intend to explain anything to Diana.
Driven by curiosity, Diana turned and followed him inside. "Alexander, where did you go? You smell terrible, like cheap women's perfume. Where exactly did you go?"
Could it be that Victoria had been gone for so long that Alexander couldn't bear the loneliness and went to find another woman?
That wouldn't do. Diana walked beside him, saying, "What exactly did you do? You can't betray Victoria, you know that?"
Alexander stopped, turned to look at Diana, and patiently said, "I won't betray her. I was just looking for her."
Arabella and Maximus also woke up and hurried downstairs upon hearing this. Arabella asked as she walked, "You went to look for Victoria? Do you have any leads? How did it go?"
"I will find her."
He left those few words and hurried upstairs.
Arabella wanted to ask more, but Maximus grabbed her wrist, signaling her to stop.
Arabella was anxious. She had been on edge for a while now, almost driven to despair.
If Victoria didn't come back soon, their family would be in a mess.
Eloise kept saying she dreamed of Victoria being unable to call for help, covered in wounds.
"Is Alexander okay?"
Diana thought Alexander didn't look quite right.
"He should be fine."
Maximus mumbled, then looked at Arabella. "Call Frank."
Arabella immediately understood. If Alexander went to look for Victoria, he would have Frank with him. She quickly took out her phone and called Frank.
Frank was quick to answer the phone.
Soon, they learned everything that had happened the previous night.
The three of them sat on the couch, with Diana clasping her hands together, looking determined. "No, I have to go check it out."
"What are you going to check? That kind of place isn't for a girl like you."
"If they can't find her openly, then I'll have to use other methods."
"What if someone just made a mistake?"
"Mom, be grateful we have a chance," Diana said.
"Have Frank protect you secretly," Maximus said.
They couldn't afford to lose Victoria and then have something happen to Diana.
Diana nodded in agreement, but suddenly thought of Curtis as she walked out the door.
But a place like that, a college professor like Curtis definitely wouldn't go, right?
Diana decided not to tell Curtis. She went to a wig shop that morning.
To enter such a place, she had to be a bit flamboyant.
Diana didn't want to run into any unsavory characters inside. If those people recognized her, they might spread rumors outside.
Diana cared a lot about the Harrington family's reputation.
Unexpectedly, she turned around and ran into Curtis.
Curtis was passing by with a few students and stopped when he saw a girl who looked like Diana.
At that moment, Diana was wearing a blue medium-length wig and was stunned when she saw Curtis.
She thought she must be hallucinating.
Earlier that morning, she had considered asking him to join her on this adventure, and now she imagined she had already encountered him. Diana turned back to the mirror.
She didn't want to keep thinking about someone who didn't dare to date her.
"What are you doing?"
"Buying a wig, can't you see..."
Before she could finish her sentence, she suddenly stopped.
When she turned back to see Curtis again, she instinctively reached out to pinch his face.
Curtis took her hand off his face. "Do you think you're daydreaming?"
Diana's mind went blank.
She had really run into him. This was too much of a coincidence, like fate!
She couldn't let her imagination run wild.
Curtis didn't want her, after all.
"What are you doing here?"
Diana looked away, feeling a bit awkward.
"It's almost noon. I finished some errands with a few students and was going to treat them to lunch."
Curtis replied.
"Okay, then you go have lunch."
She said as she looked at other wigs. She thought the blue one was too low-key and decided to choose a big red one.
She suddenly realized that her hand was still being held by him. She turned to look at their clasped hands and awkwardly cleared her throat. "You're holding my hand."
Curtis had been looking at her, his fingers tightly interlocked with hers.
Of course, he knew he was holding her hand.
Once he held her hand, it felt like she was his.
Curtis had been tormented recently. He hadn't expected her to just leave.
So why did she go through all the trouble of moving across from him?
It had only been a few days, and Diana had already given up.
"Why are you buying a wig?"
He only asked this one question.
"I'm going to do something big tonight."
Diana looked at him. Since she had run into Curtis, she wanted to ask if he would go with her, but thinking he was probably busy, she lowered her head and said, "You don't need to worry about it."
"Wherever you're going, I'll go with you."
"You'll go with me?"
"Yeah."
