Chapter 756 He Admitted It Himself, I Didn't Get Divorced
Alexander clutched his phone, their Facebook chat open, and typed: [Where'd you go?]
No response. He glanced downstairs. He saw Victoria downstairs pick up her phone, glance at it, and immediately put it away.
'Victoria is getting bolder by the day,' Alexander thought to himself.
Edward noticed that Alexander was about to blow a fuse, but he stayed seated, refusing to make a scene. All Edward could do was watch the drama unfold. He couldn't help but remark, "Victoria seems pretty composed."
Alexander glanced at Edward and thought, 'If only you saw her when she hits me.'
"This doctor seems like a real gentleman, and if Victoria really likes him..." Edward glanced downstairs at Samuel and then looked at Alexander.
"How dare she?" Alexander snapped.
Edward was intimidated by Alexander's expression and continued to watch quietly.
Samuel, always the composed one, was courteous and kept a respectful distance while dining with Victoria.
Suddenly, Edward noticed Samuel's hand and zoomed in with his phone and took a photo to show Alexander. Alexander immediately noticed Samuel's hand holding the cup, which was Victoria's type.
She wouldn't have dared to leave him, would she?
Alexander was fuming and ordered in a low voice, "Put your phone away."
Edward looked up at him and quickly pocketed his phone.
After dinner, Samuel paid the bill and left. Victoria stood at the door watching him leave. She knew she couldn't drag Samuel down; as Melissa had said, he was indeed a good guy.
Frank drove up next to her, saying, "Mrs. Harrington, shall I take you home?"
Victoria was a bit surprised to see Frank but still refused, "I drove myself."
"Then I'll follow you," Frank replied and parked his car to the side to wait for her.
Just as Victoria was about to leave, she was stopped by a sweet voice, "Ms. Kensington, fancy seeing you here."
Victoria turned around, feeling warm despite the cold wind on her face, thanks to her windproof down jacket. She curiously looked at Daisy and asked with a faint smile, "Ms. Bryant, you're dining here too?"
"Yeah, Alex invited me, but I deliberately arrived a few minutes late. Girls need to be reserved sometimes, right?"
"You're right," Victoria said nothing more, nodded, and left.
She didn't expect Alexander to be here too. She couldn't figure out if Alexander came because of her or if it was just a coincidence that he was meeting Daisy here.
"Ms. Kensington, you're his ex-wife, so you must know his preferences, right? Could you share them with me? I'd be happy to compensate you for your time," Daisy said with a flattering smile.
Victoria thought for a moment and told Daisy his favorite colors and foods before leaving.
Daisy happily entered the restaurant. As she went upstairs, Edward had already left. She picked up the menu and was about to order when the person across from her asked, "Did you run into her?"
"Yeah, let me order first."
"What was her reaction?"
"Alex, let me order first."
"I don't like being called Alex. What was her reaction?"
Daisy felt that Alexander was too cold and indifferent to her. He only cared about Victoria's reaction, as if he didn't care about her at all.
"She didn't have much of a reaction. She even told me about your favorite foods and encouraged me to go for it," Daisy said, looking at him.
Alexander looked at her and said nothing more.
Daisy finally started ordering, glancing at him with each dish she chose, feeling that Victoria hadn't lied to her.
Later, Alexander said, "You're ordering all my favorite dishes. What about you?"
"I like what you like," Daisy said with a faint smile.
"I told you, I'm not divorced," Alexander said seriously.
Daisy lowered her head and mumbled, "But everyone says you're divorced."
Alexander didn't say anything else. After a while, he made sure Victoria had left before heading out.
Victoria got back to Rockland Street, feeling a bit of breast engorgement. She plopped down on the sofa, and Eve brought Strawberry to her.
A little later, the doorbell rang.
Eve went to open the door and came back with a big box, saying, "This is the dress you're supposed to wear tonight."
Victoria watched as Eve put the box on the table and then looked down at Strawberry, who was nursing vigorously.
Feeling a twinge of discomfort in her waist, Victoria asked, " Eve, do you still have those patches you bought last time? The ones without much smell."
"Yeah," Eve said and immediately went to find them.
Victoria's phone rang again. It was Adrian. Strawberry was startled by the sound, and Victoria quickly held Strawberry with one hand and reached for the phone with the other. But bending over too much caused her immediate pain, making her face turn pale.
Hearing the noise, Eve ran out and quickly handed her the phone.
"Thanks," Victoria said, blaming herself for forgetting to put the phone on silent when she came back, and then answered the call.
"Did my mom really introduce someone to you?" Adrian's voice came through.
"The guy is very gentle and nice," Victoria said.
"You don't even like me, Victoria. Don't tell me you believe in love at first sight with a man."
"Why wouldn't I? You know that."
"That was when we were kids. We've grown up now." Adrian knew who she was talking about. He was the first to know when she confirmed her love at first sight for Alexander.
"But who can say for sure about feelings?" Victoria's voice wavered, a hint of vulnerability showing through.
Adrian's tone softened, filled with pain. "Victoria, I won't allow you to pretend to like someone else for my or Alexander's sake." He understood her nature all too well.
Melissa was just outside the ward, and the door was open. She could hear Adrian's words to the person on the other end of the phone.
She couldn't understand why both brothers liked Victoria. No, she actually understood. But why did this always happen in their family?
Melissa turned to look at Adrian inside, who still seemed like a child to her, and felt a pang of pain in her heart. Adrian was even shedding tears—something he had never done in front of her, which showed just how deeply he felt for Victoria. But could he win Victoria's heart when her heart and eyes never lingered on him?
Arabella was right. They had all been through this and could tell at a glance which guy a girl really liked. When you liked someone, even if you didn't make eye contact, you behaved differently around them.
Was Adrian's persistence now just like hers back then? Melissa had never thought she was that foolish. Back then, she had only thought, 'What's wrong with loving someone?' Now, looking back, she realized not only that she had been wrong but also that she had been pathetic and laughable. That person clearly hadn't loved her.
Lost in her thoughts, Melissa didn't notice the time passing. The hospital hallway was eerily quiet. She snapped back to reality when she heard footsteps. She looked up and saw someone suddenly appear. "What are you doing here?" she questioned.
"The one hospitalized is my brother, after all," Alexander said calmly.
"Do you really consider him your brother?"
Melissa felt his words were an insult to her and Adrian. They had been abroad for so many years, always the ones to reach out to Harrington family, while the Harringtons never reached out to them. When Adrian asked why they couldn't return to the country, Alexander was living in the best house, enjoying the most comfortable life.
"If I didn't consider him my brother, he would have died a thousand times over," Alexander shot back.
Suddenly, a crisp sound rang out.
