Chapter 789 She Was Right in Front of Him, Within Easy Reach
Victoria glanced over and smiled, "No, thank you."
Alexander, however, couldn't understand why the urge to devour her was growing stronger.
She was right in front of him, within easy reach.
Victoria felt his gaze still on her and couldn't stay calm. She slowly stood up, "I need to go to bed."
"Sit down."
Alexander's patient voice, his lazy yet serious eyes looking at her.
"I'm leaving."
Victoria lowered her head and was about to walk away.
She couldn't sit still any longer.
The sense of impending doom filled her with panic.
But just as she took a step, Alexander leaned forward and grabbed her wrist.
Victoria felt herself lose balance and fell hard to one side.
She couldn't see anything clearly, but her hand was already pressed against his abdomen, and she sat awkwardly on the couch, just missing the bowl of cherries.
Alexander's eyes stared straight at her, still holding her hand, "You promised the elders you'd stay here with me."
"But..."
"Are you tired?"
"Yeah."
"Then sleep here."
Alexander's eyes sparkled.
Victoria's heart pounded as she looked at him and softly asked, "How can I sleep here?"
She regretted it immediately, as her mind suddenly filled with erotic images.
He was right in front of her, his strong male pheromones enveloping her, his face perfectly matching the one in her mind.
Should she say it's too cold here and she might catch a cold?
But then she thought, luckily she didn't say that.
Otherwise, what if he said his arms were warm?
"I'll show you."
Alexander said, still holding her wrist with one hand, while effortlessly moving the bowl of cherries back to the table with the other.
The table was filled with snacks, desserts, and fruits, along with barely touched coffee, but none of it mattered anymore.
Victoria watched his movements, wanting to break free from his hand, but as soon as she reached out to push his hand away, he grabbed both of her hands.
Victoria felt herself being pulled into a place she shouldn't be.
He lay down, and she...
Victoria's heart raced, her face turning even redder.
"Alexander, don't do this."
"Don't move."
She tried to struggle, but Alexander simply wrapped his arms around her back.
At that moment, he didn't want to care about anything else.
Holding her in his arms, he felt his life was complete.
Victoria couldn't push him away and soon calmed down.
She panicked, realizing the strong heartbeat wasn't hers but Alexander's, pounding as if it was about to burst.
Victoria felt both embarrassed and awkward, sensing his aggressive aura near her ear. She breathed lightly, just trying not to make him angry.
Suddenly, she was flipped over, and Alexander's arm cushioned her as he held her from behind.
He thought she could still watch her favorite actor on TV.
But Victoria was already very uncomfortable with this position.
It wasn't that she was being pretentious; after all, they had been married for so long, what was there to be awkward about?
But he was Alexander.
The man she fell in love with at first sight, who still made her heart race.
Why did she feel so heartbroken, so eager to escape?
It was because she had never stopped loving him.
She just told herself to be rational, that she shouldn't keep seeking his love so humbly.
But maybe that was what loving someone did to you.
She couldn't help but think of him, and when he touched her, she couldn't help but feel moved and want to respond.
But what about tomorrow?
They could never go back to how they were before.
Victoria could only stiffly stare at the TV in his arms.
Usually, she would grin foolishly while watching that actor's show, but this time, she couldn't smile.
She just tried to control her heart.
She wanted to appear less tense, to make her heartbeat less erratic.
"Vicky."
A familiar, gentle voice suddenly sounded in her ear.
Victoria listened and barely responded, "What?"
"Are you okay?"
Alexander's soft voice stirred ripples in her heart.
He had asked her this after they reunited, but tonight, when he asked again, she suddenly felt tears welling up, unable to utter even a perfunctory response.
Victoria felt her lips burning, and tears uncontrollably fell.
She was not okay at all.
Those endless painful days felt like years.
Those days when she needed help just to get out of bed, she still thought of Alexander holding her.
So many embarrassing moments, she was in so much pain that she couldn't even go to the bathroom.
All her dignity and shame were gone during those days.
She was always grateful to Eve for taking care of so many things during that time.
But these were things that happened after they separated, and she didn't want to tell Alexander.
"I mean, your heartbeat is a bit fast."
Just before Victoria's tears fell, Alexander softly reminded her.
All her painful emotions were pulled back, but she didn't move.
Because he couldn't see her tears.
"It's your heartbeat that's fast."
She finally managed to speak, but her voice was hoarse.
'Damn it.'
She cursed herself for sounding like she had been crying.
Alexander suddenly sat up, pressing her shoulders to lay her flat, then saw her tear-streaked face, "It looks like a talk show now."
Victoria couldn't say anything. She could only raise her hand to cover her face, turning towards the TV, mumbling, "Don't look at me."
'Don't look at her?'
Alexander couldn't hold back any longer, removing her hand and looking straight at her, "If you keep crying, you'll be punished."
Her response was more tears.
"Very well."
Seeing her tears flow from the corners of her eyes, Alexander quickly lowered his head and kissed her, on her tear-heated lips.
His lips were also hot.
Victoria's hands were pinned above her shoulders, leaving her powerless to resist the kiss.
Alexander felt like it had been ages since he last kissed her.
He couldn't help himself and kissed her uncontrollably from the start.
It was as if the feelings suppressed in his heart for years finally erupted. His kisses became more domineering and passionate.
The talk show ended, replaced by cheerful music, but it didn't affect him at all.
Until he felt dizzy and remembered he had a fever, he slowly stopped.
His voice was hoarse, "Sorry, Vicky."
Victoria remained silent. When she slowly opened her eyes, she saw the mist in his eyes, and her heart ached.
"I forgot I had a fever."
But he remembered a few minutes ago, and now he had forgotten while kissing her.
Or maybe he was telling the truth.
Victoria didn't want to argue. She just softly said, "Can you get off me?"
Alexander was reluctant but slowly rolled off her, then curled up behind her, still holding her.
Victoria instinctively turned to watch TV, but his forehead pressed against her shoulder.
What was the purpose of this intimacy?
Victoria couldn't see anything anymore, and she started to feel sleepy.
Just as her eyelids were about to close, she felt a hot hand slip under her sweater.
