Chapter 716 Just a Uterus
"Hey, can you take me home?"
Alexander just stared at Victoria, all silent and icy.
Victoria looked down for a sec, then asked, "Alexander, where's Strawberry?"
Alexander felt something weird in his chest but just shrugged, "No clue."
He took a sip of his drink, looking super bummed out.
But Benjamin could tell Alexander was totally heartbroken and helpless.
"Strawberry's at your place. He had too much to drink and probably doesn't remember squat," Benjamin chimed in.
"Let's sit down. Standing and talking is a drag."
They had the whole dining area to themselves. Edward nudged Victoria to sit next to Alexander, while he and Olivia sat with Benjamin.
Then they all stared at the two of them.
"We all thought you lost your kid back then. It was a real bummer," Benjamin started.
Victoria felt his eyes on her and looked up.
Benjamin was sharp. He wanted Victoria to know her lie had messed everyone up. She looked at him and calmly said, "I was really sorry, too."
"Weren't you always aware you were pregnant?" Benjamin pressed.
"How could I have known? I was on the edge of death," Victoria replied, her eyes clear and gentle, with a soft smile.
With this crew, only honesty would cut it.
Victoria spoke earnestly, watching their faces closely.
At first, she thought she had lost her baby.
She was hurt and had lost a ton of blood.
And with Alexander taking a hit for Isabella, she really believed her baby was gone, her loved ones were dead, and the guy she loved had taken a hit for another woman. So she...
Victoria didn't even want to wake up.
But in the operating room, the cold clash of instruments brought her back. When the doc started injecting anesthesia, she couldn't help but ask a question.
Since it was partial anesthesia, she stayed conscious. She begged the doc to lie for her.
She didn't think she was wrong; Alexander had ditched her first.
Of course, about their issues, she felt no need to bring them up again. But about Strawberry, she only found out later that Strawberry was still in her womb.
"You all know my parents have already passed away, so when I found out I was pregnant with Strawberry, I was dead set on having her and never letting her go."
Victoria's eyes filled with tears, looking both pitiful and determined. The three across from her went quiet and then looked at Alexander.
Alexander just poured another drink and downed it.
Then he sneered, "She's my only daughter too."
"But you can still have kids with someone else..."
"Then tell me, can't you?"
Alexander suddenly grabbed Victoria's hand and lifted it. She was wearing a ring.
From the moment he saw that ring, it was like a knife in his heart, one he could never pull out.
The three of them just watched, expecting a blow-up, but it went quiet.
"I promise you, I won't have any more kids. I'll only love Strawberry for life."
Victoria's eyes welled up with tears, and she struggled to speak in a hoarse, soft voice.
She was weak, helpless, knowing it was wrong but still loving him over and over. She hoped he'd feel sorry for her.
But Alexander still held her hand and asked, "You say you won't, and I'm supposed to believe you?"
"What do I have to do to make you believe me?" Victoria asked.
"Unless you lose the ability to have kids," Alexander shot back.
Then he suddenly stood up.
"No problem," Victoria said softly, tears streaming down her face. She already had Strawberry, and that was all she needed.
She looked up at him, letting the tears fall, saying, "I can get my tubes tied."
"You think I'd believe that surgery?" he scoffed.
"Then what do you believe?" Victoria asked, looking at him.
It seemed like he didn't believe anything.
Alexander looked at her and suddenly couldn't say anything.
Victoria smiled, her tear-filled eyes looking at him gently, saying, "You don't want me to remove my womb, do you?"
"Victoria."
"Alexander."
"Alexander."
The three of them spoke at once.
Some things shouldn't be said lightly.
"What if I said yes?" he challenged.
"As long as you sign the agreement to give up custody of Strawberry."
Victoria thought to herself, 'there's nothing I couldn't do.'
It was just a uterus.
She had no intention of having more kids anyway.
Alexander just stared down at Victoria, his eyes full of hatred.
Nevertheless, Victoria asked him in a hoarse voice, "When will you give me the agreement to give up her custody?"
"Victoria, stop," Olivia warned.
"Don't do this. Victoria, you don't know, he was in so much pain when you weren't around," Edward quickly spoke up for Alexander.
But Victoria just said with a faint smile, "He was probably in pain because his true love ended up in jail, right?"
"If he loved Isabella, why would he go through the trouble of marrying you?" Edward countered.
"Because of morality, because my parents died in Ankenra City," Victoria replied. She had been puzzled about these things for too long.
She always thought she had gotten the answers she wanted.
Alexander said he loved her.
But he took a stab for Isabella.
Did he love Isabella or her?
"By the way, Alexander, you should actually thank me. I helped you see your true feelings and know who you really love," Victoria spoke softly.
Alexander couldn't help but grab her chin, looking down at her.
Some words were about to burst out, but in the end, they were held back.
He choked up, smiling as he said, "Right, I really should thank you."
"Then give Strawberry back to me as a token of your gratitude," Victoria suggested.
"Can you two stop being so mean to each other? You both don't really mean it," Edward couldn't take it anymore. He stood up, leaning on the table, and earnestly reminded them.
"Absolutely not," Alexander said.
His fingers gently caressed Victoria's slightly warm chin. He had always liked the feel of her skin, and he still did.
But now he truly hated her.
He tried to smile, his eyes also misty, and he said, "Victoria, bring me proof of your hysterectomy, and I might consider giving Strawberry back to you."
"Say that again," Victoria suddenly took out her phone, turned on the recording function, and looked up at him, calmly asking him to repeat it.
Alexander glanced at her phone screen, then smiled at her, leaned down to be at eye level with her, and whispered, "If I don't see the proof, don't even think about seeing Strawberry again."
